Rainy Thursday

Another rainy day!  More drizzle than rain, but, enough moisture to wet the ground and I'm happy!

Cousin V texted me in the morning to say that they were leaving San Diego earlier than planned due to the rain and should be home by 3:30 p.m., if I want to come over with the gifts.  I texted her back and said that I had already dropped the gifts off at cousin R's house, last night.  I hope R took the gifts over to V's house, in the evening!

Today, I washed the clothes that cousin R had given us.  I think I need to buy another set of clothes hangers!  In a comment on yesterday's post, June (Live and Learn-Toss and Turn) asked me if I make a note of new stuff coming into the house on my decluttering ledger.  That's a very good question and the answer is, Yes!  I keep track of new items coming in, at least when it comes to my clothing and household items!  I don't keep track of items my daughter receives.  I haven't reached the point of "1 in 1 out", yet, but, maybe I will get to that stage, one of these days.   I haven't added the clothing items I received yesterday, yet, partly because I've forgotten which ones my daughter decided to keep for herself and which ones I chose to keep!  But, once we sort through them, I will make a note of the items added to my closet!  So far, since I posted this post about organizing my clothes closet in August, I have decluttered more items of clothing than I have added (at least 11 more items decluttered than received).  That number will be much reduced by the time I add my share of yesterday's clothes, but, I don't think I'll be adding as many as 11 items!

Daughter and I had leftover fried rice for brunch and leftover rice and sausages for dinner (I cooked more green peas to have with them).  After dinner, I ran the dishwasher and handwashed my teacups and the pots and pans.

Aunt C called in the afternoon and I had a long chat with her.  Later, friend R called and we chatted a bit.

But, the majority of my day was spent crocheting the granny squares for the blanket I am making for my friend for Christmas and watching some videos online while I crocheted.

Today, I am grateful for:

- More rain!
- Working appliances
- Yarn from the stash
- Leftovers!
- Chatting with family and friends

Today's joyful activity was crocheting.

Plans for tomorrow include more crocheting and M's visit to tend to the garden.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  2. How many granny squares do you have left to make? Do you think you will be able to get in all done in time? I hope so.

I will make a start on sorting my clothes in January. I can't afford to replace everything in one go so I think I will be aiming to sort out one outfit each month. The first outfit has to be new shoes/boots, jeans/trousers, jumper and a warm winter jacket/coat - i.e. an outfit for morning and photography walks during the winter but with boots and a coat it won't be cheap so will probably be bought over two months. I've been searching for ideas today.

Tomorrow, I hope the people will turn up to buy the decluttered items they've expressed an interest in.

    1. I've 9 more to do! I am making them rather large (10 1/2 inches square). I do hope to finish the whole thing, by next week. I know I left it till the last minute, but, I had a hard time deciding what to give this one particular friend.

I like your idea of replacing one outfit at a time, spreading out the costs over a couple of months, if needed. :) I think I will go through my closet, again, now that I've received some new items. There are one or two things I still want to buy (a pair of new dress shoes, for example), but, they can wait until I am ready to go shopping in person, again. :)

I hope the people who want to buy your items show up and the sales will go through without much trouble. By the way, my noisy neighbors are putting up tents in their front yard, which can mean only one thing: Party! Tonight or tomorrow! :D

  3. I have become the 1 in 1 out with clothing purchases. It has made a huge difference and I am no longer keeping items I am ambivalent about.

    1. Anne, I want to be like you! I've a ways to go, though. I've several things I'm ambivalent about that I have kept...maybe it's time to let them go!

  4. Yes, the rain was wonderful. We had some snow up at the cabin. The trees love it. Eating leftovers saves money and time. It's great for the budget, too. I heated up some leftover Mexican rice and cube steak for lunch. Divine!

    1. Oh, it must look so pretty up at your cabin with the snow! Maybe you'll have a white Christmas up there! Everything you said about eating leftovers is true! Saves time and money! Your Mexican rice and cube steak lunch sounds delicious! I made more fried rice for our lunch, today, using leftovers (1 sausage, rice, green peas) and 1 egg. :)

  5. You sound as though you're very organised with your decluttering. I should probably think more about what I'm bringing into the house. I have been doing better since having to sort Jane's house, but I can improve more!

    1. I'm trying, Sharon! I'm being mindful of what's coming in and what's going out. I have more or less stopped buying decorative items and books; I ask for consumables when someone asks me what I want for birthdays and holidays, etc. But, I don't say no to clothes because I don't like shopping for clothes! :)

  6. If you have decluttered more clothing items than you have received, then you are still ahead!
I do like the option of pickup at the store shopping. I was able to order an item for a gift from a very large store and instead of roaming around all the shelves to pick it up, I just walked in today with my code number and ID and waited at one side of the counter until it was brought to me. Customers using a phone, can even sit in their car in a designated spot and have their order brought out to them.

    1. Yes, Bushlady, I have decluttered more than I have received, when it comes to clothing. :) The same goes for books, decorative items, etc., too.

I'm glad the store pickup worked well for you. It is convenient, isn't it?

  7. I do hope the gifts were delivered as expected.
Crocheting granny squares sounds wonderfully relaxing. X

  8. I'm going to remember that when I start to declutter my wardrobe,
items I am ambivalent about can go.

    1. It is a good rule to keep in mind, isn't it? I have a couple of those items hanging in my closet, right now - I think they will be decluttered in the next few days!

  9. I don't exactly do the one-in, one-out rule here, but I do have several things that have a designated area and when that gets full, something has to go before anything new can come in. My husband had to do this with his puzzle collection the other day. It was very hard for him, but he was a good sport and passed some puzzles onto others.

    1. The designated space or containment area is one of the organizing ideas I have read and it is a very good one. I did that with my books, one time, when I ran out of space for new shelves! :D I'm sure it was very hard for your husband to part with his puzzles, but, well done for doing so! :)

  10. I didn't know you were making a blanket for a friend's Christmas gift. Hopefully we will get to see it at some point. I don't do well with gift deadlines on handmade items - do you feel pressure?
You got a nice gift of clothing from your cousin R. How nice.
That's an interesting question from Live and Learn about monitoring what comes in while decluttering. You are more on top of it then me but a few times I have lined off a decluttered item from my monthly tally when I bring something new home to offset the count.
I haven't been bringing that much new into the house so I don't really have a system.
    Something to think about.

    1. It was a rather last minute decision to make the blanket! I really need to plan my gifts better! Yes, I feel the pressure! I actually felt it even more, on Saturday, when it seemed like my visit to my friend would be brought forward by a week! LOL.

It is an interesting question, isn't it? I have been keeping track of what is coming in, as well as what is going out, at least, when it comes to clothes! Not much else has come in to the house, except 2 new kitchen items, but, I've got rid of several more kitchen items than came in, so I'm OK with that. I think, next year, I will keep a better tally! But, just this morning, I said no to an offer of two items from another cousin who is selling her house and is trying to give away her belongings!
