Rain on Tuesday!

It rained all night, Monday, and rained most of the day on Tuesday!  Gentle rain for the most part, with occasional showers.  But, there must have been some winds in the night or early morning hours because I found that the cover over the water heater vent pipe had blown off and fallen on the driveway!  I picked it up and, hopefully, M can place it back on the vent pipe!  I was worried that the water heater flame might have gone off, but, there is hot water on tap, so, I am assuming it is OK.  The rain ceased in the afternoon and we had a couple of hours of beautiful sunshine before the sun set.  Tonight's temperature, as I write this, is 39F (3.88 C).  That is cold in my books!

I went outside a couple of times, in between rain showers, to retrieve the trash bins, once they had been emptied, and to collect the mail.  Holiday greeting cards are starting to come in and I'm displaying them on the living room mantelpiece for now.  Each card is a reminder that I haven't got my cards in the mail, yet!

Cousin V called me, today, and we chatted for a bit.  Later, I called friend A and checked on her and called friend R to chat with her.

I had leftover ham and noodle casserole for lunch and cooked a chicken curry and a fresh pot of rice for dinner.  My daughter made a cucumber salad to have with the rice and chicken curry.  Afterwards, I washed the day's dishes.

But, once again, the major activity of the day was crocheting the border on the blanket I am making.   It's almost finished, but, I still want to crochet one more border row.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Rain for the garden
- Not losing power due to the rain
- Phone calls with family and friends
- Hot water on tap
- A working heater

Today's joyful activity was crocheting.

Plans for tomorrow include M's visit to tend to the garden, finishing the blanket, and maybe setting up the Winter Village!

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. I know many people have stopped doing holiday greeting cards because they communicate through social media. However, I love to get them, so I still send them out.

    1. I love to receive them, myself. I really need to get my cards written and in the mail, this week! :)

    2. I agree. Many people don't seem to bother any more but I still think cards are important. But I also think that they should be meaningful. I send less than half the number I used to send but I write them with sincerity. I finally got mine done and into the post at the weekend. A big job jobbed. Hooray!

    3. You did well to get your cards all written and mailed, Lady Ella. That's on my agenda for this evening! :)

  2. My goodness that was certainly a cold night. I don't know why we in the north think of California being always warm and sunny! I hope that you can get that cover put back on the pipe.
Wednesday is my day for changing the bed so that is the first task, and I really want to get to wrapping some gifts.

    1. There was a freeze warning for parts of Los Angeles county, last night, but those areas are a bit north of me. I guess our lows are what others would experience as their highs, but, it does get a bit cold around this time of the year for us! :) M was able to put the cover back on the pipe. But he noticed there was a hole in the pipe, a bit further down! I might have to replace the pipe, before long.

Sounds like you have a busy day planned! Hope you do get some gifts wrapped. :)

  3. It seems really strange for you to be writing about rain! I hope the weather remains fairly mild in your area so you don't have to deal with damage from high winds or from flooding. I hope M is able to replace the vent pipe and that your hot water supply is still working properly.

I hope you are able to complete the blanket tomorrow and can set up your Winter Village ... will we get photos, please?

    1. Rain is a bit out of the ordinary, here, isn't it? :) It is sunny and dry, today, though! Today's high is 55F (12.7 C); I've been outside a couple of times and the air feels so fresh after the rain! M replaced the vent cover, but, he discovered a hole in the pipe, itself. However, the hot water is still working, so, I'm happy!

I am determined to get the blanket finished today and move on to other things! Yes, there will be photos once I have something to show! :D

  4. Good to see that CA is getting some much needed rain. It rained for about three hours straight Tuesday night and this morning (Wed) we awoke to wicked winds and very hard rains that lasted a couple of hours. It seems a lot of us got those crazy winds and rains with lots of toppled trees and broken Christmas ornaments. Currently it is 37 and that is cold to me. Like you, I need to write out a few more Christmas cards and then I think I am done. But I'm sure something else will pop up that I've forgotten. Happy Holidays! Denise

    1. Denise, it is so good to hear from you! I wasn't quite sure which state you live in, but, I was hoping that you weren't affected by the tornadoes!

I'm glad we got some rain! Some areas had mudslides, etc., as a result of the rain, but, I just had some rain showers. I think all the weeds will be up by this weekend! :D

  6. It's nice to receive Christmas cards although I didn't write too many last year as I was feeling unwell. This year I've added a few more to the reduced list but not nearly as many as I used to write.

    1. I've reduced the number of cards I send out, especially to family and friends overseas. But, it is nice to receive cards at this time of the year, isn't it? :)

  7. I'm so glad you got some nice rain, Bless. Every little drop matters where you are.
I saw all the major weather happenings around the country and the snow in Northern California. If your daughter were at her apartment, would she have had snow?

I like getting cards too and enjoy displaying them. One of the wonderful yearly decorations that always changes.

    1. Thank you, Debra; every drop counts! :) No, Berkeley would not have received any snow, but, they probably would have had some power cuts! But, the mountain passes might get some snow, which could impact holiday travels.

I, too, enjoy displaying the cards I receive. :)
