Sunday Update

Peach Tree

I had another pain-free night, Saturday night, and I slept well.

Sunday morning, I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to take my medication, then, slept again until 7:00 a.m.  I logged into the Temple's online services, but, wasn't able to detect any activity!  I waited for about 30 minutes, or so because I know that they don't always start on schedule for various reasons, and then, called the Temple and left a message asking if there was a delay.  Eventually, I logged off and said my prayers, myself.  The head monk at the Temple returned my call a little later, saying they had experienced some technical difficulties and today's Temple services will not be available online, but, they hope to have next Sunday's retreat available for online participation.  I'm sure it will work out just fine.  I am happy that I made the effort.  Intentions matter!

I didn't go back to sleep after that.  Instead, I stayed up and read.  Later, I helped my daughter fold and put away two loads of laundry (I folded; she put away).

But, the highlight of my day was being allowed to walk once around the back garden in the afternoon, to check on the plants, with my daughter accompanying me to make sure I didn't stumble or anything (with my foot being numb, I need to be mindful about maintaining my balance).

The garden seems to be thriving!  The zucchini plants have grown so big over the past couple of weeks!

Zucchini Plants

These are the ones growing in the bed where the green beans didn't come up

One of the plants that were planted under the peach tree already has a small zucchini growing!

The First Zucchini!

While the plants that were transplanted to the weeded rose bed are not quite as big, but, appear to be doing well and one has a flower:

Nearby, the potatoes I planted in pots are coming along nicely, too - no idea if they will form any potatoes or not, but, they were old potatoes that had started to sprout and I planted them instead of throwing them away.

The Early Girl tomato plant seems to be doing well, too, and has almost reached the top rung of the tomato cage!  I can still see only the one tomato growing on it, but, hopefully, there will be more than one tomato!

And finally, more wild flowers are blooming:

Wildflowers:  Coreopsis

The plant had fallen over, either due to the wind or perhaps from being watered, as it hadn't been staked.  But, such vibrant colors!

As you can imagine, I am itching to be able to go outside to water the garden and spend more time, but, I don't want to do anything without the doctor's approval, so, after less than a 10 minutes stroll, I went back inside, to rest.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another pain-free 24 hours
- A walk in the garden
- The plants growing well
- Freshly picked peaches and blueberries from the garden
- My daughter's continued care and concern for my wellbeing

Today's joyful activity was, as I mentioned above, strolling around the garden!

No special plans for tomorrow.  I will continue to read and do what I can to keep myself occupied.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. So glad you had a pain free night. My sympathies are with the Temple staff as they struggle with technical issues in putting services online. That is one stressor we've been glad to relinquish since retirement! Your garden is growing beautifully. Have a lovely week

    1. Thank you, Angela. I thought of you and Bob when the monk told me of technical difficulties. :) It's a bit of an undertaking, isn't it? I am thrilled with how the garden is looking!

  2. So glad it was another good day Bless. The garden is coming along beautifully! I know you'll be glad when you can get back out there, but please just take it slow and be careful!

    1. Thank you, Martha. Yes, I am continuing to take it very slowly and will not do anything until I see the doctor, tomorrow. I have a feeling she'll tell me to do more, to keep moving and take the pain pills as needed. But, I will wait until I get her blessing to do more.

  3. Your garden looks to be thriving. How lovely to get a walk about in the garden, however short. Very glad to hear you continue to improve. I like what you said about intentions ... my Gran was never that positive with her thoughts "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is what she'd say. I like the positive approach.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. Reporting on my zucchini plants reminds me of reading about your reports with Lady Ella on your pumpkin growing experiment, several years ago! :) It did me a world of good to be able to stroll around the garden and check on the plants. Yes, I've heard your Gran's saying, too. :)

  6. So nice to read of your continued pain free status.
And you got to go outside. That must've felt so nice after so long.
All of your plants are doing so well. You will be starting your summer harvest soon.

Good luck tomorrow at the doctor's. I'm looking forward to hear what is said.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I'm trying to see if I can go into the garden again, this evening - the plants need to be watered, today.

I called and confirmed the doctor's appointment (and made sure they hadn't changed addresses!) Yes, I'll share what the doctor has to say.

  7. Another good night for you - yay! Your garden is impressive, even those potatoes look healthy. I sympathize with the monks and their live stream problems. Must have been something about Sunday as I couldn't access the live stream mass I wanted at first, but then all was fine and later the priest mentioned the struggle they had to get on-line!
Took a tour of the yard today and was surprised to find lady's slippers and yellow clintonia already in bloom. We have a crazy woodpecker nearby who sounds like he is hammering on metal, which they do occasionally to make their presence known to others.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. The garden is coming along nicely, isn't it? It hasn't been too crazy hot, yet, this year, so, things have more time to grow. But, it needs to be watered, today, somehow or the other.

How nice to find the flowers already blooming in your garden! Too funny about the woodpecker! My mother used to sing a song about a woodpecker knocking on an old oak tree. :)

  8. Great news that you have had another pain free night. It's a shame about the technical difficulties meaning the service couldn't be transmitted online. Will you take part in the retreat next Sunday?

    1. Thank you! The poor peach tree suffered an accident the next day, due to producing too much fruit, but, it was lovely to see the garden coming along so nicely.
