Saturday Update

It's been three weeks for today since I felt this sciatica pain!  I can hardly believe it!

I felt a little better, today.  I still can't stand for long, but, I was able to make myself a cup of tea in the morning while daughter slept in and I managed to get myself a few snacks from time to time.  I also managed to scrub the toilet in the afternoon!  I felt such a sense of accomplishment! I never thought I could get so excited about cleaning the toilet!  LOL.

I couldn't quite manage to make the evening tea by myself, however.  I put the water to boil, but, daughter had to pour the boiling water and keep the tea to steep for me.  Then, I went back to the kitchen to add the sugar and milk.  Baby steps!

I spent most of the afternoon knitting.  I finished knitting the front of the sweater I am making for my daughter and started on the first sleeve.  I might not be able to do housework or gardening, but, I can take this time of enforced rest to knit!  I will still be accomplishing something!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Feeling a little better
- The little tasks I was able to accomplish
- Access to the internet
- Phone calls and emails with family and friends
- My daughter's help

Today's joyful activity was...scrubbing the toilet!  Yes!  Really!  LOL!  It made me feel so good to be able to do that one small household task!  Followed closely by knitting, of course.

No plans for tomorrow as I am taking things one day at a time.  Hopefully, hopefully, I will continue to feel better, please.  Most probably I will continue with the knitting.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for the rest of this long weekend?

  1. We're having a cold and rainy weekend, but I did manage to get some yard work done in the light rain. Soon enough you'll be able to do yard work, too. However, you're chances of doing it in the rain are much less. :)

    1. Well, at least the rain will be good for the garden. Hope you were able to dry off and be warm, afterwards. I am longing for the day when I can do some yard work, myself. I agree with you; chances of me gardening in the rain are much less. :)

    1. It is a very pathetic joyful activity, isn't it? But, it did make me happy to be able to do it! However, I didn't have the best night and there was some discomfort and pain, so, I'm back to taking it easy, today!

  3. It sounds like you're making some progress which is great to hear ... baby steps on the return to normality. It did make me laugh that cleaning the toilet brought so much pleasure to your day!

    1. I thought I was making good progress, but, I experienced some pain in the night - not too bad, but, I needed to rub some ointment (Tiger Balm) and use the heating pad. I guess I will not be sweeping the bathroom, today! Cleaning the toilet, however, did make me happy, yesterday. :)

  4. haha - so funny about your toilet cleaning. But I know what you mean. It's been weeks since you've been hurt and not being able to do the daily household tasks must be so frustrating. I can see why it pleased you to be able to do a household chore.
Knitting and crochet. Thank goodness for them. I'm glad you are a knitter because I know the comfort it can bring.

    1. Yes, I was so happy, yesterday, because I was able to do at least one household task. But, there was some pain last night and early this morning, so, I am back to taking it very easy, today. Knitting, etc. is good for the soul, isn't it?

  5. I hope you didn't break something, Bless. It seems like you are really in severe pain, and your mobility is limited. So glad your daughter is there to help you. Yesterday I went kayaking, and today I swam and sunbathed at the lake. Heaven! Enjoy your knitting...

    1. According to the X-rays they did at the ER, nothing was broken or fractured, thank goodness! Yes, my mobility is severely limited by pain. Having my daughter here has been, and continues to be, such a blessing!

I'm glad you are having such a lovely weekend, Stephenie. It sounds like you are truly enjoying yourself. :)

  6. That is tea making in stages! But knitting and e-mailing and phoning are doable and you will accomplish much while slowly getting back into housework (I would never have dreamed that this would begin with toilet scrubbing. I hope you will soon be able to graduate to litter box cleaning!)
More sunshine and not too hot. We had our walk and saw a lot of people were enjoying the river.

    1. Before long we might have a whole new tea ceremony in the making! LOL. But, today, I am letting my daughter do it all because I had some pain, last night and early this morning. Litter box cleaning will require a little more time and a long handled scooper! I did fold some laundry, today, though! :)

Glad you were able to enjoy the sunshine and a walk to the river. I hope you continue to enjoy some nice weather, next week, too.
