Mother's Day Sunday

A Rose for Mother's Day

This rose was blooming in front of my front door; it was the one I picked to place by my mother's picture on Saturday after I dreamt of her.

Saturday night, I began to experience a pain down my left leg.  I believe it was my sciatic nerve.  It was a rather intense pain and I took two Tylenol and my daughter applied both a heating pad and an ice pack.  I hobbled off to bed, soon after.  I guess I aggravated it with all the weeding I've been doing, last week.  I guess I overdid things in a big way!

We had planned to pick up some take out for a Mother's Day lunch and I had invited friend R to join us, but, she had declined and I guess it was a good thing, because we didn't go out to get anything for Mother's Day lunch, after all!  Instead, daughter made my favorite chicken teriyaki!

I've spent the whole day, today, in bed, with heating pads and taking pain medications.  At one point, I was gasping with pain and my poor daughter was crying because she couldn't bear to see me in pain.  She has been my nurse and caregiving angel, today, bringing me coffee and meals, water and medicines, warming my rice filled heating pad for me, and generally fussing over me.  It was the best Mother's Day present she could have given me, I think.  As I told her, it was a blessing that she was here with me to take care of me!  I am not sure how I would have coped if I had been alone, as it hurts to walk.  I would have been crying and feeling very sorry for myself, for sure!

I've had calls from family and friends wishing me for Mother's Day.  Neighbor S called and brought over dinner!  Rice pilaf, fried tilapia which I believe her mother made, and squares of ham and cheese pastry her daughter had made.  Such a blessing!  I did postpone this week's piano lesson, however, because I have been unable to practice today and I am not sure if I'll be able to sit up on the piano stool for the hour long lesson.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Having my daughter home to take care of me!
- Heating pads and pain medication
- Phone calls from family and friends
- S bringing us dinner
- S's daughter being available to accompany my daughter to the dentist's and back on Tuesday, if needed

Today's joyful activity was being taken care of so tenderly by my daughter.

I've no plans for tomorrow, other than taking it easy and resting!  Daughter ordered some groceries (including ice cream and soup) and will pick them up, tomorrow.  Hopefully, I'll be recovered in time to take care of her on Tuesday!

Hope each and everyone of you have a lovely day, tomorrow.

  1. Oh, no! I hope the pain is better today. Your daughter being home has been a blessing in many ways, not the least of which was the care she was able to give you. You have set a good example for her.

  2. I do hope you are feeling much better today. Sciatic nerve pain is some of the worse & when I worked at the Physio/Chiropractor office, I would say 60-70% of the patients came in with sciatic pain. Thank goodness for your daughter there to take care of you. Sending lots of positive healing vibes. Beautiful rose.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I'm feeling a bit better, today. I'm actually fine as long as I am in bed, resting! Just can't put any weight on the leg and having it hang down while seated in a chair hurts, too.

  4. Oh dear! Sorry to hear you have been so badly afflicted and I hope the rest and treatments do the trick for you. Yes, it would have been terrible to have had to deal with that on your own. The rose you picked for your mother is beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I'm feelina little better today and was able to talk to my doctor on the phone; she has prescribed an anti-inflammatory medication for me, which my daughter was able to pick up at the pharmacy for me. I am so grateful that she is here and able to take care of me! Such a blessing!

  10. Hi Bless, I hope you didn't break something. My toe turned black and blue after shoveling snow, and it turned out that I had a fracture. If you are gasping with pain, I would get it checked. The weeding can be hard on the body. (especially as we get older.)

  11. So sorry you were in so much pain on Mother's day. I'm glad your daughter was there and able to take care of you. Sciatic pain is absolutely no fun. I have it in my left leg and my husband has it in his right leg so we balance each other out when we both get flare ups at the same time. Ha Ha! All kidding aside, I hope the pain passes soon and you'll be up and about. Denise
