Tree Trimming on Thursday

Pine Tree and Power/Telephone Pole

Today, both daughter and I woke up at 6:15 a.m.  She because she had to take an online training session which started at 10:00 a.m. East Coast time, which was 7:00 a.m., our time and I because I wanted to make sure I had the gate unlocked for the tree trimmers!  They were supposed to arrive at 8:00 a.m., but, I didn't want to give them any excuse to say that they found the gate locked and couldn't have access to the tree!  Lots of people wake up at 6:15 a.m. and I used to get up even earlier when I used to drive daughter to the university on my way to the office, but, these days, I like to sleep in!  Especially since I didn't go to sleep until around 4:00 a.m. in the first place!  But, I was up and dressed and checking things in the garden when the tree trimmers arrived at 7:30 a.m.!

There were two of them and they spent a few minutes filling out paperwork, etc.  I spoke to them and told them to cut the tree as short as they'd like.  In fact, I was hoping that they would trim it way down, but, they were only interested in the very top branches.

Pine Tree: Before

During

One person climbed up the ladder and pruned the branches; his partner gathered all the branches that came down and bundled them up.  It didn't take them long to have the tree trimmed to their liking:

After

After they had left, I watered the front garden.  Then, laundered the quilt I had taken off my bed, yesterday. Later, I cooked some spicy onion relish (seeni sambol) and spicy sauteed potatoes.  I had leftover milk rice with some of the onion relish for my breakfast; daughter had some of the potatoes.

Today, I dusted and tidied the top of my dressing table and I put away some of the files that had been on my desk.  I went through the file folders, first, and tried to declutter a few of the papers I had in them.  My filing cabinet should be reorganized, too, but, that's another project for another day!  Maybe the organizing fairy might visit, again, to help with that!  LOL!

Later in the evening, while daughter took a nap after she finished working, I watered the back garden and did a little more weeding around the sweet potato vine and the area where I planted a sprouted potato.  Afterwards, I practiced the piano and then, it was my turn to fall asleep on the sofa for about one hour!  Friend R's phone call woke me up!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Having my pine tree trimmed, free of charge
- A large capacity washer that can wash my quilts without a problem
- Water for the garden
- Naps on the sofa
- Phone calls from friends

Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

I accomplished most of my to do list, today, except for cleaning the kitchen, which will get carried over to tomorrow.  Other items on the list include vacuuming my bedroom and tending to the garden with M.

How was your day?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Good thing you were up early to greet the Hydro tree trimmers. Your roses (from previous posts) are so pretty. Happy weekend.

    1. Yes, I'm glad I was up early to open the gate for the tree trimmers. I didn't want to give them any excuse to say they couldn't access the tree! Thank you, Mary-Lou; I am appreciating the roses even more this year, I think. :)

Hope you have a lovely weekend, too, and are feeling OK after the vaccination.

  2. I always wonder why the tree trimmers don't cut things way down that interfere with electrical wires, it would keep them from having to do it year after year.

    1. Ah, but, doing so would mean that they will have less business the following year! The people trimming the trees were hired by the power company; having to return year after year means they'll have steady work (and income). :)

  3. Well at least your tree was trimmed for free even if they didn't reduce it as much as you would have liked. How often do they have to do that?

I'm not surprised you needed a nap. You didn't sleep for long during the night, or should I say early morning, and you've had a busy day. I think you deserve a couple of relaxing, please yourself, sort of days now.

    1. Yes, I appreciate them doing it for free, especially since, as the homeowner, it is my responsibility to keep the tree trimmed so that the power lines are not affected! That's why I was so keen to be up early enough to let them in - because, if they said they didn't have access even after notifying me, I'd have to get the tree trimmed at my expense! I'd rather have that money to buy new plants for the garden! I think the last time they trimmed the tree was a couple of years ago. But, at the rate this tree is growing, they might have to come out, again, next year!

Yes, I think today will be a bit of a lazy day, although I am trying to push myself to vacuum my room and clean the kitchen, today. Then, relax over the weekend.

  4. Not surprised you needed the afternoon nap, after that early start and so little sleep! Glad you were able to let the workmen in and that the job was done, but from the angle of the photos it does look as if more of the tree could have been lopped...! (Not that I'm an expert!)

    1. I think they could have cut off at least another 6 feet off the tree, myself, but, I suppose the very top wires are what they were concerned about - they are the power lines and the ones below are telephone, cable, internet, etc.

  5. You were both well organized for your morning requirements, and just as well you were ready when the tree trimmers came earlier than expected.
We had an early start the other week when DH had a meeting that started in a time zone 4 hours ahead. I went back to bed after we had breakfast!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. It worked out well. I was rather pleased by what I was able to accomplish, yesterday morning, but, if I am to get used to waking up early, again, then, I must readjust my sleep schedule!

I think you did the wise thing, going back to bed after breakfast! :D

  7. It's good you were up and ready for the tree trimmers since they were there bright and early. It's good to get things like that taken care of - and for free, which is always nice.
I would've taken a nap too. You've had a busy productive few days and then didn't get much sleep.
Waking up everyday by your own body clock instead of an alarm is one of the blessings of retirement for sure.
