Saturday

Cornflowers

I woke up this morning calling out for my mother!  She had just died in my dream and I was at her funeral.  In my dream, I was calling out for her and the last time I called out, I did so aloud,  and it woke me up!  I guess I dreamt of her because it is Mother's Day, here, tomorrow?   Or, perhaps because I've been spending so much time in the garden, lately (she loved to garden).  Later in the morning, I picked a red rose that was growing in the garden and placed it in a vase near her photograph on the living room mantel.

M stopped by in the afternoon to pick up something he had left behind, yesterday, and while he was here, he replaced the burnt out light bulb in the front porch light for me.  Later, I watered the back garden.

Mourning Doves

This pair of mourning doves are regular visitors in the garden.  They come to eat the kibble I put out for the garden cats and they share the cats' water dish (when the cats are not around, of course!)  I was able to photograph them as they picked at some grass seeds and checked out the weeds I had pulled out from under the lemon trees:

Mourning Doves

One wanted to rest and the other one preened

In the evening, daughter and I went to the store to pick up some indoor cat food for Dancer.  I had bought a small bag of it for him when daughter was getting her second vaccination dose and he just loves it.  He finished the bag a couple of days ago and was looking for more!  He didn't want the regular dry food he used to eat!  So, daughter put in an order for two more bags of the indoor cat food and we picked it up (free curbside pick up).

On the way home, we put gas to the car.  I like to keep the gas tank at least half full, but, I had let it go down to quarter tank, this time!  The small earthquake we had earlier this evening was a good reminder about why I keep the tank at least half full - so that there is enough gas in the car to drive somewhere if there is an emergency (if we lose power as a result of a strong earthquake, gas pumps will not work).  Gas was $3.89 at the cheapest gas station and I put $40.00 worth.

Then, for the first time since March 2020, we went to a drive through fast food place to pick up food to go!  Chicken nuggets for daughter, a hamburger for me, and fries to share!

After dinner, I did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen, scrubbing under the stove burners, etc.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Memories of my mother
- Garden flowers
- Garden visitors
- Gas for the car
- Indoor cat food for Dancer

Today's joyful activity was getting fast food for dinner!

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  2. I don't have any blue in my garden, although the annuals may add a bit, but your cornflowers look beautiful ... I may need to rethink!

I hadn't thought about going to a drive through to collect a meal. Thanks for the suggestion ... I think that will be added to this week's meal plan ☺️

    1. A lot of the restaurants here are now offering curbside pick up, too, but a drive through is easy, too. :)

  3. I'm glad you put the rose next to your mother's photo for Mother's Day. Sounds like it was a good day other than the disturbing dream. Happy Mother's Day to you Bless!

  4. Saturday was cold and wet - Sunday has been dry and sunny. After church we took a picnic to the beach and I lay on a blanket in the sunshine reading my new book...thankful for all these blessings

  5. Those cornflowers are driving me nuts but I have had some artificial ones for years and will have to be content with those until I can grow some!
I hope you didn't feel too sad when you woke up after dreaming of calling for your mother.
Dancer has lucked out with his new food. I just hope he will continue to like it now that you have picked up more and that the novelty doesn't wear off!

    1. I am now wondering why I didn't try growing cornflowers earlier! I've also read that they are edible! I haven't tried eating them, yet, but, something to keep in mind, as I am trying to grow a mostly edible garden. :)

  6. How nice to be so attuned to your mother that you dream of her around mothers' day. I hope the dream left you feeling uplifted and close to her, rather than upset. Your cornflower is a wonderful shade of blue! Mine's bloomed purple! Do the doves coo?

    1. I'm constantly dreaming of my mother, but, this was the first time when I cried out for her. The doves make a sort of cooing noise and they have a particular sound they make when they fly.

  7. Your mum obviously stays in touch. How lovely. After more than 20 years of passing over, my mum has started to with me. I wonder - did she try and I wasn't noticing? And so does my Dad.Ironically, I give readings where I contact the loved ones who have passed over. Such a privilege.

    1. I do dream of her constantly. :) I rarely dream of my father, especially after that one dream where he indicated that he wanted me to follow him and, although I wanted to go with him, I was afraid that if I did, I wouldn't come back, and I told him I can't go with him because my daughter needed me (this was several years ago, when she was still a young teen). It was a really weird dream!

  8. What a powerful dream of your mother. I'm sure it left you shaken. I hope you were able to find comfort from good memories of your mother as the day progressed.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy some carryout food. It's a nice treat once in a while.

    1. It was the first dream I've had where I cried out for her. Placing a rose by her picture helped me, especially since I wasn't able to visit her gravesite, today.

The carryout food was a nice treat as we haven't had fast food in over a year! And as things turned out, it was my Mother's Day treat! :D
