Saturday Update

Dinner Compliments of Neighbor S

It has been two weeks for tonight since I started having the sciatica pain.  It began on the night of May 8.  The past two weeks have been devoted mostly to pain management!

I had a pain-free night, last night.  I couldn't fall asleep until very early this morning, but, I didn't have any pain, and I was eventually able to sleep towards morning.  I woke up pain-free and have been feeling relatively well, all day.  My left foot is still swollen and slightly numb, but, I am not in pain.  For which I am very, very thankful!

I spent most of the morning replying to blog comments, reading and commenting on blogs, etc.  Then, in the afternoon, I did some knitting.  I am knitting a sweater for my daughter with yarn we had bought, earlier, for the purpose.  She has requested a central cable going up the front and that's what I am working on, now.  I've already knitted the back (just a plain stockinette stitch) and the sleeves will probably be a plain knit, as well.

Neighbor S called in the early afternoon.  Apparently, it was her husband's birthday and she was expecting some family and guests to dinner.  Usually, there isn't enough parking on the street on our block, especially in the evenings and weekends, so, I said she's welcome to have her guests park in my driveway.  She said not to worry about making anything for dinner because she will bring us Armenian barbecue, which she did, later: barbecued chicken, pork ribs, and beef; baked potatoes; a bowl of salad; rice pilaf; lavash flat bread; and chocolate cake for dessert!  How wonderful is that?

Another Book to Donate

Last night, I finished reading the book, I've pictured above.  I had bought it back in 1994 and read it, but, I had retained it.  It's one of the books I wanted to re-read it before I decluttered it.  It has now been re-read and I will set it aside to donate.  I have started re-reading another book with the intention of decluttering that, too.  I might not be able to do much active work and decluttering, while I am resting my leg and waiting for my doctor to say what I can and can't do, but, I can go through a few books at a time and decide if I want to continue to keep them or declutter them.   Will need to call and schedule a pick up, next month or so.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another pain-free night and day
- S bringing us dinner
- Daughter taking care of me and the household chores
- Dancer keeping me company
- Phone calls and emails with family and friends

Today's joyful activities included reading and knitting.

I am not too sure about my plans for tomorrow.  The Temple I attend is having a retreat to observe Vesak (the birth, attainment of Buddhahood, and death of the Buddha), tomorrow.  People may participate in person at the temple or online.  It starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.  I wouldn't be able to go to the temple in person, but, I am wondering if I would be able to join online.  I usually have to wake up at 6:00 a.m. to take my prescription medicine, so, I could simply stay up for it.  It would all depend on how well I sleep, tonight, I suppose.  If I am unable to participate in it, tomorrow, another temple will be holding their services next weekend and I might be able to participate in that.  I know I really appreciated being able to participate, virtually, last year.  Well, we shall see how it goes.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Well another pain free day is good news. Just continue to rest until you have seen your doctor.

The Armenian food sounds delicious and I'm sure you both enjoyed it. How lovely of S to share the birthday meal with you.

The subject matter of the book interests me. Was it an easy read or did it get bogged down in too much detail? I'll see if it's available through the library system.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Last night was pain free, too, and I am hopeful for today. Yes, continuing to take it relatively easy until I've seen the doctor.

Last night's dinner was lovely and it was very kind of S to include us.

I enjoyed reading the book, which was a narrative of how life changed in the Middle Ages. I didn't read it all in one sitting and some bits interested me more than others, but, each chapter dealt with a certain aspect or time period, so, it didn't matter that I read a chapter or section at a time.

  4. One more day in the "good column" - that's good news.
I hope you add another one. And another one. And on and on.
I am curious to hear what your doctor says on Tuesday.

    Neighbor S!!!!
She is really a blessing for you. The food looks delicious. How nice for you and your daughter to have a relaxing evening of no cooking.

I have some chicken I thawed in the freezer overnight so I will make something with that today.
I weeded (oops that's a bad word lol) this morning and then planted some flower seeds - zinnias, nasturtiums & a mixed pack of different flowers.
I had planted zinnia & marigolds a couple weeks ago and they are coming up and I wanted to get some more planted so I'm pleased getting those started.

    Have a nice Sunday

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, I'm adding up all the good days! Last night was good, too, and so is today, so far, at least!

Neighbor S wins the best neighbor trophy, doesn't she?

I'm sure whatever you decide to make with the chicken will be delicious.

Just be careful when you weed! Don't overdo things! Zinnias, marigolds, and nasturtiums, etc. are all great flowers to plant. Your garden will look lovely when they start flowering. I am hoping that the doctor will say it is OK for me to garden, eventually.

  5. I hope the lack of pain continues and that you get enough sleep that you can "attend" the special ceremony at the Temple.
Your neighbour is a real caring and sharing person, isn't she?

We had a lot of rain in the night and I am still amazed at the speed with which things (not always what we want) grow tall! It is a holiday weekend and although cooler than recently, the sun is out and the breeze makes it good for a walk down to the river. The beach was busy yesterday but May river water is far too cold to swim in, even when it is really hot out.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I had a good night. The Temple was having technical difficulties with the online participation - I logged in, then, called the Temple and left a message, and finally logged off. Soon after that, the Temple returned my call and explained they couldn't do the service online, but, they will try again, next Sunday. It worked out well enough.

      S is a wonderful neighbor!

Spring rain is what makes all the seeds wake up and grow! I'm glad you were able to enjoy a nice, sunny walk to the river and back. Yes, I imagine the water would be cold! Mostly spring melt, still, I'd guess.

Hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend. We'll have one, next weekend. :)

  6. I'm glad you had a good night, Bless. Hopefully swelling and numbness will go away very soon.
Armenian food sounds delicious. I don't think I've ever had any Armenian food. :)

Just this morning I was wondering when Vesak was. I forgot to ask Mom when I had a chat with her, yesterday.

    1. Yes, I did have a good night, last night, thank you, Nil. Last night's dinner was lovely, a different taste and no cooking on our part! :D

The Temples here take turns to hold Vesak celebrations, throughout the month of May! They were having technical difficulties, so no online participation, today. But, I'll try again, next week.
