A Not So Good Day on Monday

I had another flare up very late last night/early this morning.  I went to bed at 4:00 a.m. and the pain came back by 5:00 a.m.  At 6:00 a.m., I took two Tylenols and the Prednisone a little after that.  But, the pain stayed for at least another 2 hrs.  Very bad pain.  I prayed.  I screamed.  I cried.  My daughter did, too.  Then, I fell asleep for a couple of hours and woke up in more pain.  We called the doctor and she returned my call just before noon.  She urged me to go ahead and take the Norco that had been prescribed by the ER doctors.  I had tried so hard to avoid taking it, but, I couldn't.  It took another hour or so to fully kick in.  After which, I was able to sleep, a little.  The monks from the temple called and chanted blessings to me over the phone, which was helpful, too.  I was able to eat some rice and stir-fry for lunch, after that (around 3:00 p.m.) and I slept, again, until just before 5:00 p.m.  I took my other prescription medicine that the dr. had given at 5:00 p.m.  For the first time in the day, the pain has subsided.

Daughter has gone to the pharmacy to pick up the medication the dr. prescribed, today.  Dr. is going to try to move up my appt. so I can see her sooner than on the 25th.

In the meantime, I am back in bed!  I didn't think I overdid things, yesterday, but, maybe I did?  I guess I sat up for too long?  I don't know.  I haven't done anything today, other than cry in pain and sleep.  :(

In the meantime, friend A is back in the hospital with another infection which will delay her chemo treatments start date by at least a week and neighbor S's mother-in-law was taken to the ER by ambulance (but, she's OK and home, again).  I am unable to do anything to help because I am flat on my bed, again!

Today, I am grateful for:

- My daughter
- Pain meds
- Dr. returning calls
- Monks chanting blessings
- Prayers

My joyful activity has been being taken care of, so tenderly, by my daughter.

Hope your day has been better than mine!

  3. So sorry for all the pain you're going through. I never knew sciatica could cause so much pain. I know it was hard but glad you broke down and took the Norco. You need relief. Hopefully your doctor can move your appt. up so she can figure out why you're in such pain. So glad your daughter is there. Praying for you still.

  4. Oh Bless. I'm so sorry to read you are in so much pain. I can understand your reluctance to do so, but please take whatever you have been prescribed to ease your discomfort and hopefully it might help you to get some sleep as well. Sending you some more (gentle) hugs. And love to your wonderful daughter for taking such good care of you. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules. I did take the meds and it took 2 doses to knock the pain back, but, I managed to sleep well, last night, and am feeling much better, today. I haven't had to take any pain meds, so far, today (it is afternoon as I type this), so, that's a good sign. My daughter is being so wonderful! I am so grateful for having her here with me.

  6. Oh Bless, I'm so sorry to hear the dreadful pain has returned. I do hope your doctor is able to give you an earlier appointment - will she do a home visit or will you have to go to the surgery?

I hope today is a better day for you and that the medications are effective in controlling the pain. xx

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I am feeling better, today, thank goodness! My doctor will not make a home visit (I doubt if any of the doctors here do that anymore!); I will have to go to her clinic. I had to take 2 doses of the pain meds, yesterday (spaced 6 hrs. apart), but, it took care of the pain. So far, today, I haven't had to take any pain meds. :)

  7. I'm so sorry to hear you had another flare up Bless. Don't be afraid of using the pain meds when you really need them. I hope the new medication the doctor prescribed will help. I'm so thankful you have your daughter there with you!

    1. Thank you, Martha. Yes, I took the meds and they have helped. They can be addictive, I was told, so, I've been a bit wary. But, they did help with the pain! I haven't needed to take any more, today, though (not supposed to take them unless really needed). I honestly don't know how I would have managed if my daughter wasn't with me! This is giving us both some cause to think about the future!

  9. Oh no! I wasn't expecting a setback, and such a bad one at that! Definitely time to use the other painkillers and I'm glad you had that option as a back-up. Thinking of you of course, and I hope that the doctor is able to see you much sooner than next week. It can't be normal to have this much pain(?) You might need physio to release a nerve or loosen muscles? (You can probably tell I am no expert!!) All the best, Bless.

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. Yes, it's one step forward and two steps backwards! Feeling much better, today, though; so very thankful! I think once the doctor is able to see me, she might be able to prescribe a course of treatments - physical therapy, perhaps, or a list of recommended stretches and exercises, or perhaps a cortisone type injection to relax the muscles. I don't know just what caused the initial flare up (other than intensive weeding!) - I guess I won't be doing much of that, anytime soon! Thank you for the well wishes. :)

  10. Oh no. I know you didn't want to take the narcotic (I would've been the same) but I am so glad you had the prescription filled and had it on hand for just this type of situation.
I hope you have had some more rest and are having a better day today.
I am sending you prayers of healing and comfort.
    Take Care.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, the narcotics are what I refused to take when they were prescribed to me after my surgeries (lumpectomy and the IV port insertion), but, yesterday, I was grateful to have them! They took care of the pain with only minimal side effects (felt just a little bit of nausea). I was able to have a restful night of sleep and have woken up feeling better. I haven't needed to take any pain meds of any kind, today, so far (it's afternoon, here). I am, however, staying in bed. Hope all is well with you. :)
