Unidentified Objects from the Kitchen Drawer

Any Idea What They Are?

These are two items that were in one of the kitchen drawers.  I have no idea what they are!  I think the bluish plastic item on the left is some sort of a spout for easy pouring, although meant to be pushed into a container of what, I don't know!  I'm even more clueless about the white thing!  Whatever they are, I am not using them, haven't used them, don't even know what they are and how to use them, so, I have decided to declutter them.  Does anyone know what they are?

It was another sunny and mild day, today, although the morning was a bit hazy.

Today, February 4, marks the 73rd anniversary of Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) gaining independence from Britain, after 133 years of being a crown colony.  Pay attention, because, there will be a quiz, later!  LOL.

I spent a quiet morning, replying to blog comments (one of my newer readers is reading some of my old posts and I am enjoying re-reading those posts and replying to her comments) and doing a load of laundry.  My daughter had three work-related online meetings which she did at the dining table, but, after she finished the last meeting, I started on the china cabinet.  I took everything down from the top shelf and washed the three pieces of glass that form the shelf.  Then, I polished the couple of very tarnished silver items I store on that shelf.  After that, I cleaned my bathroom and practiced the piano.

Dinner: Sweet and Spicy Pork Stir Fry with Rice and Broccoli

Daughter helped me cook dinner, tonight.  I had put four pork chops to thaw and she mixed up a sauce for them - honey, sriracha chili sauce, a little soy sauce, a little rice vinegar, some garlic powder and powdered ginger.  I decided to cut up the pork chops into strips and stir fried them a bit before adding the sauce and cooking them a bit longer.  Daughter cut up the broccoli for me and I just boiled it in a bit of salted water.  The rice was leftover from yesterday.  There's enough of the pork stir fry leftover for tomorrow's lunch or dinner.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Keeping in touch with friends

- Having daughter help with the cooking

- Working appliances

- Relaxed days

- What I was able to accomplish today

Today's joyful activity was cooking with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include cleaning another shelf in the china cabinet and going through another kitchen drawer.

Remember what I said about there being a quiz?  Here you go:

1. When/in what year did Ceylon/Sri Lanka gain independence?

2. In what year did it become a British crown colony?

Bonus question: Why did the name change and in what year?

  1. I think the blue thing is meant to be pushed or screwed into an orange or lemon to extract the juice; you squish the fruit and pour the juice which collects in the spout bit

    1. Oh, so that's what that might be! Thank you, so much, Kirsten! I am going to try it on a lemon, tomorrow! :)

    2. Since you live in the land of citrus in your backyard, maybe you should keep the blue thing.

    3. Well, I am going to try the blue thing on a lemon, today. I do have an electric citrus juicer, which I use when I juice several oranges or lemons at a time, but I usually cut a lemon in half or in wedges when I need only a little lemon juice to add to a dish.

  2. Ooo I love quizzes!
    1. 4th February 1948
    2. 1802 with the Treaty of Amiens
Bonus. 1972. Not sure why but think it may be to do with becoming a Republic.

I think Kirsten is right about the blue thing but I have no idea what you'd use the white thing for.

    1. Ha, ha, I thought you might play along! Yes, February 4, 1948! The answer to #2 is partially correct - the Treaty of Amiens did give to Britain control of the portions of Ceylon that were colonized by the Dutch, but, there was still an independent kingdom in the central region known as Kandy, which wasn't conquered until 1815. So, in general, the year in which the whole country became a crown colony is considered to be 1815 (1815 to 1948 = 133 years). Yes on the bonus question too! 1972 and becoming a Republic. Well done!

According to a comment from Angela, the white thing is a spiralizer!

  3. Kristen is right. We had one of those - bought it in 1982 when I was pregnant, from a guy selling them on the. Seafront by Brighton pier. It never really worked for me. I think the other thing is a cucumber spiral cutter. You cut the end off so it's flat, screw the point in, then put your finger in the hole and wind it round. But how many cucumber spirals does a woman need? I think they were sometimes given as prizes at tupperware parties.

    1. Thank you, Angela! I am going to try them both, today! I have no idea how and when I acquired them, but, they might have been included as bonus items with other things I had purchased over the years.

  4. I have no idea what the items are. Isn't it funny to discover such things in our own homes? I see you are coming along in the cleaning and decluttering. The china cabinet can be quite a long process. Your dinner looks delicious!

  6. Absolutely no idea what they are lol. Once upon a time you must have known, right? Lol. Oh, maybe the white one is some sort of Pumpkin/Halloween tool? I remember something in my drawer that might qualify for that

    1. I think they were items that came included with other items and, yes, I suppose at one time, I knew what there were meant to do, but, I guess I never used them and then, forgot what they were! At one time, I thought the blue thing was an apple corer, but, then I realized that it wasn't!

  7. I'm curious as to what the items are used for. The blue one reminds me of a lemon juicer. X

  8. I love that your readers have identified your mystery items.
I thought the blue thing might be a juicer thingy but had no idea what the white thing was.

I learned a lot about Sri Lankan history today.
