Presidents' Day Monday

Crocheted Sunflower

Monday was Presidents' Day and a holiday.  Daughter finished crocheting a sunflower and took it over to neighbor T (who had once told me that sunflowers were her favorite flowers) and left it on her doorstep.  I called neighbor T to tell her that there was something for her and a few minutes later, she called daughter and thanked her.  Daughter told her that it was a little something to brighten her day.

In the afternoon, daughter and I went over to my cousin V's house to pick up the bag of her late mother's clothes she had set aside to give me.  Cousin V is really enjoying growing succulents, right now, so I took her a box of succulents cuttings from my garden, along with a small bag of oranges from my tree.  In addition to the bag of clothes, she also gave me a Christmas gift from her sister (my cousin R) that R had left at V's house to be given to me - a box of Quality Street chocolates!  After I came home, I called cousin R and thanked her for the gift and we chatted for a bit.

Later, my daughter and I spent an fun half hour or so trying on our 'new to us' clothes.  Cousin V had told me that if there were any items I didn't want, to feel free to donate them.  But, all of them fitted daughter and most of them fitted me, too!  I think we will keep most of them!  I gave daughter the first choice since she decluttered her closet, earlier, and she has more opportunity to dress up because she has online meetings for work.  She will take a few of them back to Berkeley with her and the rest will be kept down here.  She very graciously told me that I could borrow them any time!  LOL.

After that, I watered the front garden and took the big trash bins to the curb for pick up in the morning.

In the evening, I watched news, spoke on the phone with friend R, exchanged emails with a friend, and practiced the piano.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Daughter being able to give the crocheted flower to neighbor T
- The gift of clothes from cousin V
- The gift of chocolates from cousin R
- A safe drive to cousin V's and back
- Being able to share some of the succulents and oranges with V

Today's joyful activity was visiting cousin V.

Plans for Tuesday include doing some laundry and watering the back garden.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?  Will you be making pancakes, tomorrow?

  1. Your daughter has inherited your skill with crafting - such a pretty sunflower. Before the pandemic when we were able to visit with family & friends, my shopaholic sister was always cleaning out her closet & I would get many of those items; it's nice to have generous family members (col).

Yes, it's a blessing to have generous family members, isn't it? :)

  2. It sounds like you and your daughter are having such a good time together--cooking, trying on clothes, crafting, etc. That's one of the good things to come out of this pandemic.

  4. I'm not making any pancakes today, I just don't fancy any and also don't have any lemons.

I don't have much planned for today so it's been a quiet morning, livened up by getting my vaccination appointment for Thursday ☺️, and this afternoon I have a ticket for an online talk about someone's family tree research.

    1. I am debating whether to make some pancakes, myself, Eileen. It's not like I observe Lent, in any case!

Congratulations on getting your vaccination appointment! I'm excited for you! Hope it goes well and you have little, if any, side effects.

  5. What a beautiful crocheted sunflower, that would brighten anyone's day! Sounds like another nice day for you and your daughter and it's always nice to get new clothes. I have a friend who is constantly shopping and cleans out her closet often. She brings me bags of clothes a few times a year. I hardly ever have to buy clothes myself anymore unless I need something special.

    1. Thank you, Martha.

Yes, it's nice to get new clothes, isn't it? I am not much of a clothes shopper to begin with, and I haven't bought any clothes since the pandemic began (only a packet of socks!), so, having some new clothes is a blessing!

  6. Oh that sunflower brings joy just seeing it! How fun to have some new-to-you clothes and to be able to try them on and decide in the comfort of your own home. Sounds like the lovely day.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. Yes, it's fun to receive new-to-us clothes (some were new with tags still on them), especially since I haven't bought any new clothes recently. :)

  7. What a beautiful crocheted sunflower! And what fun to be able to try on those clothes together and have your own little fashion show! Second hand clothes are always more interesting than going to the new store as they are not usually available new. That's why I've enjoyed some consignment store finds in the past, including the outfit for our son's wedding!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. It was fun to try on the items, especially since my daughter was there to give some feedback on how things looked when I wore them. :) One can find some lovely items in stores, especially when it comes to formal wear.

    1. Yes, it is, isn't it? I think it is a sign for me to sort through my closet and see if I have some items to donate, myself! :)

  10. What a nice day you two had.
That was so nice harbour daughter made the sunflower for neighbor T.
I'm sure she appreciated being thought of.

And new clothes - for free - with a home-based-dressing-room fashion show.
    Sounds great.

    1. It was a nice day, wasn't it? I think T appreciated the thought behind the flower. And trying on clothes is so much more fun when there is someone to comment on how it looks on you, etc. :)
