| The Granny Square Blanket |
It's been a good day - sunny and warm. I did some housework (dusting and vacuuming), watered the back garden, hand washed a few clothing items, practiced the piano, chatted on the phone with friend R and friend A, cooked a stir fry for dinner, and spent the evening singing some old songs with my daughter - my mother's favorite song (Whispering Hope), my step-father's favorite song (Danny Boy), etc. We also put in an order of groceries to be picked up, tomorrow afternoon, and another order of some household items to be delivered.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Completing the granny square blanket
- Singing with my daughter
- Phone calls with friends
- Water for the garden
- What I was able to accomplish
Today's joyful activity was singing with my daughter.
Plans for tomorrow include picking up groceries, doing some gardening with M, and deciding which work in progress to finish, next!

The quilt turned out very pretty. Sometimes the leftover colors do not coordinate very well, but not in this case. Do you still have leftover yarn?
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. I am very pleased with how everything sort of blended together. Yes, I do still have some leftover yarn! LOL. But, some of it is wool which will be good for socks and some of it is fuzzy "eye lash" yarn.

Thank you, Debra! It was had to imagine how it would all turn out, without one unifying color to tie them together, but, I am pleased with how it turned out. :)

ReplyDeleteThe sun is still shining and there is still snow on the trees. I'm taking a break from housework and laundry, and now I hear that the washer has stopped. Time to go.

The granny square blanket looks amazing and it's a wonderful gift for your daughter. An evening singing old songs together sounds perfect - there are so many memories linked to the songs from different periods of our lives.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. She was teasing me about dipping into her yarn stash to make her gift, but, she's pleased with it. I enjoyed singing the old songs with my daughter. I think I'm going to suggest doing so, again, another evening. Maybe we'll sing some songs from musicals. :)
DeleteI agree, the blanket is lovely, and the colours go really well together. Doesn't look as if it's made from oddments at all! And singing favourite songs with your daughter sounds idyllic; Danny Boy is a beautiful song.

Once I tried making a granny square with a flower pattern in the center, and the yarn was too thick so it was not pretty.
Thank you, Nil. The majority of the yarn was #4, but, there's some thinner yarn in there, too (baby yarn, for example). It's made with odds and ends of yarn leftover from other projects or given to me by others. Sorry to hear that your granny square didn't turn out too well - I just know only the most basic pattern, but, I imagine one with a flower in the center would look lovely.
