Sunday Blessings

Red Lentils and a Homemade Croissant

Today, I checked on the peach tree first thing in the morning; only a couple of the yellowed leaves had fallen.  I am now wondering if that earlier leaf drop was due to a lack of sufficient water.  I watered it, again, this morning, and the orange tree, and the sweet potato vine.  The sweet potato looked like it was starting to recover from the shock of being transplanted.  Maybe I should have watered the hole before it was planted.  The roots had been accustomed to being in water and finding themselves being in the soil, and rather dry soil at that, probably was too much for them!

Brunch today was pasta with leftover pasta sauce.  I cooked enough pasta for at least one more meal and there is enough sauce left for maybe two servings.  I had some orange juice with my brunch and ate half a mango, afterwards.

A short time later, neighbor S called me.  Her daughter N had made croissants from scratch,  making the dough, last night (apparently, it took her 4 hours to do so!) and baking them this morning; would I like to have one?  Of course, I said, "Yes, please"!  I love croissants and homemade ones?  I don't think I've ever had a homemade croissant, before!  S also said that her mother had some extra red lentils and would I like to have a bag of them!  Oh, my!  N reads my blog from time to time and, apparently, S read the post about the Armenian pizza (lahmajoon) and read it to her mother L, too!  In that post, I had mentioned I wanted to ask for a bag of red lentils the next time S's husband goes to the Armenian store!  Oops!  I had better be careful about what I write!  I gratefully accepted the bag of red lentils and N brought the croissant and the lentils to me.  Thank you N, S, and L!

Chocolate Croissant!
Later in the afternoon, I thought I'll eat the croissant with my tea.  I cut into it, thinking I'll butter it, only to find that it had a chocolate filling!  My favorite!  It was so delicious!

Then, around 5:30 p.m., S called me again.  Her mother made some soup, with zucchini, garbanzo beans, lentils, and couscous; could she bring me some?

Zucchini Soup
She brought me a large container of a most delicious soup!  I had a bowlful of it for dinner. The rest is in the fridge for meals later in the week.

I've said this before and I will say it again - I have the best neighbors and I am so blessed!

Today, I am grateful for:
- The kindness and generosity of my neighbors
- The peach tree hasn't dropped many green leaves since that first time
- The sweet potato vine seems to have picked up a bit
- Water for the garden
- A relaxed day

My joyful activity today was eating a homemade chocolate croissant my neighbor's daughter made!

Monday's To Do List:
- Change bed sheets
- Load of laundry (bed sheets/towels)
- Dust living room & dining area
- Clean the fridge
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up
- Make curry puffs

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. The chocolate croissant looks delicious, as does the soup. You do indeed have generous friends.

It sounds like better news on the peach tree and sweet potato vine if extra watering is the solution, although I supposed this doesn't explain the spots on the peach leaves. At least the fruits seem to be undamaged.

Today (Monday) I have choir practice tonight. I don't have any firm plans for the rest of today but will run the hoover round once I've finished visiting blogland and then probably sit outside to read.

    1. The chocolate croissant was lovely! I wouldn't have believed it was her first attempt at making them, if she hadn't told me!

No, the extra watering, while helpful, doesn't explain the spots. If it is the bacterial leaf spots, then, I read that one shouldn't water the leaves as the water drops help to spread the bacteria. Well, guess what? It's been raining all morning! My daughter suggested I rigged up an umbrella to protect the tree, but, didn't do so and the tree has got a good soaking, leaves and all! :p

Enjoy your time outside and the choir practice, of course. :)

  3. Good neighbors indeed. Sounds like a good day. I love croissants as well. The best chocolate croissant I have had was at the Les Halles bakery at the France Pavilion in EPCOT/Walt Disney World.
About the best thing I did yesterday was in the cooking dept. I made us a great omelet for breakfast and fixed chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes (with onion) and gravy, and corn for supper. Most of the rest of the day was spent playing my game and a few other small tasks.

  5. What a generous neighbor! That's wonderful. I've never had a homemade croissant, either. I used to get the chocolate ones in Paris, when I was dancing there. They were divine.

  6. I agree with everyone, you have very generous neighbors.

Homemade croissants sound amazing. I’ve never had homemade ones. I think it’s a very time consuming process.

Yes, making croissants is very time consuming. My neighbor's daughter said it took her 4 hours to prepare the dough! I've read the directions and I see how it can take that much time as you have to let it rise in between various steps. But, the end results were delicious!

  7. Oh my. That soup looks delicious and would be a complete meal. If I were allowed to have chocolate croissants, I would be buying them at a bakery. I don't think I would have the patience to fiddle with the recipe. I really admire your neighbour's daughter for attempting such a difficult endeavour. My compliments to her. Aren't you the lucky one to be treated so well. You know the best people. Ha,ha.

    1. It was a delicious soup and I shared some of it with friend R and finished the rest of it, tonight! Yes, making the croissants require a lot of rolling out of dough, buttering it, folding and rolling out, again, and letting it rise in between! I will pass on your compliments to her! :) Yes, I do know the best people and they know me! LOL!

  10. I'm glad you took your curry puffs and soup to friend R. Especially when you mentioned she said she wasn't eating much. And then how she ate a puff while it was still warm made me smile for her and her enjoyment.

    1. Yes, I was concerned when she said she didn't have an appetite. She called me, yesterday, to say she just had the last curry puff with a cup of tea. I'm glad she enjoyed them. :)
