| New Pair of Socks |
Today, I spoke with the mail carrier and asked her about the annual food drive and she said she hadn't heard anything about it, but, said she'll try to find out. Usually, they leave a notification in the mail box, to be attached to the bag of donations. Maybe I'll just leave a bag out with a note and see if it gets collected or not. I also asked her if she needed any fabric face masks and she said she'd love to have some; I told her I would make some for her.
I chatted with friend R in the afternoon. Then, finished knitting the pair of socks shown above; they were knitted using some of the leftover yarn from the sweater. Now, I need to find another project to do while I watch news in the evenings.
Today was another warm day, with a high of 93F. It was hot enough that the garden needed to be watered, again. After that, I did dishes, cooked the ground beef I had bought (just browned it with some diced onions) and some of the chicken, and froze the rest. I froze the cooked ground beef, too, in four packages of approximately half a pound each. I will take them out, as needed, add more shredded vegetables to them, and then, use to make the filling for curry puffs or to add to spaghetti sauce, etc.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Summer weather
- A new pair of socks
- Being able to knit
- Water for the garden
- Chatting with my daughter
Today's joyful activity was finishing the new pair of socks!
Thursday's To Do List:
- Clean the kitchen - STARTED
- Water the garden, front and back - DONE
- Load of laundry, if needed - NOT NEEDED
Friday's To Do List:
- Clean the bathrooms
- Do one deep cleaning task
- Errands, if any

I wonder how the food banks are coping during these strange times. With shortages in the stores and restrictions on the quantities you can buy, food donations have probably taken a back seat so it's very good of you to continue to make donations. And I am sure your mail carrier will appreciate the face masks you make for her.

I don't know, Eileen. I suppose that a lot of them are struggling to meet the increased demand. I am unable to give the 40 items we had discussed earlier in the year, but, I will give what I can.

My Thursday -
Work 8 hours from home (in my back bedroom from a laptop - but I'm in front of a window with a nice view and I can get up and putter a few minutes pretty much anytime I want).
Iron some old fabric scraps to see which were suitable for masks.
Work with my husband in the back yard spreading some compost and edging.
Eating dinner (we had fancy burgers delivered from Red Robin) and watching TV
Playing an online role playing game (Final Fantasy 14).
Worked on my family tree (Ancestry.com) while watching more TV - a Hallmark movie - my husband also watches :)

DeleteYes, the socks do look rather big, don't they? But they fit well. Maybe I have big feet! LOL. I'll try to take a picture of them while wearing them. :)

Wow, it's hot there. What size needles did you use for the socks? I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of shoes they would fit into. Love the color, BTW.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the heat, at all, but, it's a little cooler, today. :)
DeleteI used three US size 3 (3.25 mm) and one US size 4 (3.5 mm) double pointed needles for the socks! LOL. These are some of the bamboo needles that I acquired when I was in Hong Kong, way back in 1973 (my stepfather's niece, who lives in HK, might have given them to me), and, after all these years, I only have 3 of the size 3 needles, so, I took one of the size 4 needles to make the set! :) I don't think it made much of a difference in the finished product, but, that's just me. I generally don't wear the knitted socks with shoes - I wear them around the house (I don't wear shoes in the house) or at night, but, they are a little thicker than regular socks.

Thank you, Debra. The mail carrier did have on a disposable mask and gloves, so I asked her if she was being supplied with them. She said yes, but, the supplies were running short and she now has to find some other masks. That's when I asked her if she'd like to have some fabric masks and offered to make them for her.

Thank you, Jules. I'm looking forward to wearing the socks this winter! I am planning to sew the masks this weekend. One of my neighbors asked me for one, today, but, I didn't have any extra with me. I will make a couple of them for her, too.

DeleteI look at those lovely knit socks and think right away that they would make wonderful bed socks. I can't sleep if my feet are cold, so I save my warm and fuzzy socks for those winter months under the covers. They are also beautiful house slippers.
ReplyDeleteBecause I am not doing my own grocery shopping, I haven't been making donations to the bins inside the store exits. So last weekend I made a financial donation to the national food bank drive. Our federal government made a large donation to quite a few charities because their sources of revenue had dried up, but the need is great.

Love the color of those socks, you must be a talented knitter. I would think that the postal workers might be feeling a little overwhelmed these days, so I hope they do delay the annual food drive. We just had a drive-through food collection at our local mall parking lot a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about it until afterward. I hope they did well.

DeleteI was wondering about the Post Office food drive as well. I seem to recall it was usually in April. Maybe they can plan for one later this year.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can remember, it used to be the Saturday before Mother's Day, here. But, yes, maybe they'll try to do it later, this year. Or, maybe they'll just skip it this year? We'll have to wait and see.
