Memorial Day Monday

Memorial Day Dinner (Compliments of Neighbor S and Family!)

I spent a quiet morning, today, and made milk rice for brunch, mostly to use up half a can of coconut milk that I had stored in a jar in the fridge.  Then, I updated my meal plan for last week and made a new one for this week, mostly because I need to use up a few things I have in the fridge before they spoil.  I spent the afternoon relaxing, reading, etc.

Then, in the evening, neighbor S called to ask me if I'd like some cheeseburgers and a piece of homemade gata (a type of sweet bread, sometimes made with puff pastry) that her sister-in-law had made!  Guess what my answer was!  LOL!  S brought me two huge cheeseburgers (the tops of the buns are underneath, but I took the photo before I added the condiments and put the tops on the buns) and fries. Two cheeseburgers are too much for me for one meal.  I ate one and kept the other in the fridge for my lunch, tomorrow.  S and her family are so good to me!  Have I mentioned how blessed I am when it comes to my neighbors?

So, day 1 of this week's meal plan and I've already made changes!  LOL!  I must admit that the cheeseburger and fries were so much more satisfying than the scrambled egg on toast that I had planned on having for dinner!

Later in the evening, I watered the front garden and waved "Hi" to S's mother L.  Still later, I video chatted with my daughter.  All in all, it was a good day as far as I am concerned.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A relaxed day
- Good neighbors who always try to include me even when I am not there in person
- A delicious dinner
- Water for the garden
- Video chatting with my daughter

My joyful activity today was chatting with my daughter.

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Dust: living room, family room, and my bedroom
- Water the back garden
- Water the house plants
- Unpack and put away the boxes that were delivered, last week
- Change sofa dust covers and wash them

This week, I will be focusing on the family room to clean and tidy.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. You do have great neighbors, or I should say, you have a great neighborhood because you all watch out for each other. That hamburger plate looks so tasty.

    1. Yes, I think we do watch out for one another. I don't know all the neighbors who live on my block, but those whom I do know are quite friendly.

  2. You certainly do have generous, caring kind neighbours. A cheeseburger on the grill definitely says summer. Plans for Tuesday include picking up curbside, my annual flower order.

  3. I'm not surprised you don't stick to your meal plan with all your generous family and friends keeping you supplied with food!

I was thinking about going out for a drive and a walk but have decided to stay at home after seeing photos of crowds at all the local beauty spots. I'm making the most of the quiet and indulging in plenty of naps.

    1. Yes, well, I'm not complaining about not being able to stick to the meal plan! LOL.

I think you made the right decision about avoiding the crowds, Eileen. Going for a drive might have been OK, as long as you stayed in the car, but, I wouldn't get down and walk. Stay home and enjoy your garden and the naps. :)

  5. I never did manage to make my milk rice. Rice has been in short supply when I've visited the supermarket so it will have to wait a little longer.
It was very generous of your neighbours to share their meal with you. And whats the point in a meal plan if you can't make changes to it :)

    1. Yes, it was very generous of my neighbors to share their meal with me. They always go out of their way to include me in their family events and I appreciate it so much.

I do hope you won't have to wait too long until you are able to get more rice to make the milk rice. :)

    1. They are, Nil. S and her family have always been good friends, ever since I moved into my house and our daughters used to play together as children. I remember, during the summers, especially after my mother died and my daughter had to stay home alone while I was at work, S would ask my daughter to come over and she'd go over there mid-morning and often stay there until I came home from work!

Oh, I, too, wish you lived in my neighborhood, Nil. What fun that would be! You know we'll keep you well-fed, if nothing else! :D

  7. What a nice food gift from your neighbor S - again!!
    How kind of her.
I would've preferred the cheeseburgers to scrambled eggs too.

Looking forward to seeing your bread creations :)

    1. It's very generous of her, isn't it? I had the second cheeseburger for brunch, today!

Thank you; yes, I think bread pudding is on the menu, this week. :)

  8. What a lovely holiday meal! Some days just call for hamburgers, don't they?
We have hot muggy weather and rain was threatened. As we came in from eating lunch in the gazebo, a few spots fell and I remembered the sheets on the washing line. It was a false alarm but I brought them in anyway and they were practically dry. A muggy afternoon calls for a nap, and according to DH, a disappointed dog from next door was peering in at me on the couch, through the patio door!

    1. Yes, those hamburgers really hit the spot, yesterday!

You had snow a couple of weeks ago and already it is hot and muggy? That's amazing! Aw, poor next door dog! No friend to give him cookies and play tag with him! Too funny!

  9. Sounds like you had a lovely Memorial Day weekend. The unofficial start of the summer season is a perfect time for cheese burgers (or hot dogs) and summer time fun. Love the festive paper plates.

I had to groan when you answered Bushlady. You are absolutely correct. We just had snow a little while ago and now we are having a heat advisory. I cannot believe the change in just a few days. Our trees are in full leaf and I am discovering that I have bleeding heart plants and peonies growing on the property. I didn't think there were any flowers at all, except for the spring bulbs I planted when I moved in here. Surprise!

    1. It was a good weekend, and Memorial Day was made even more special by the gift of dinner! :) Yes, hot dogs! I don't buy hot dogs all that often, but, just the other day, when my other neighbor gave me a container of potato salad, I was wishing I had bought some! Hot dogs and potato salad just seem to go together, don't they? Maybe I will get some, in time for 4th of July! :D

Oh, my! It sounds like you guys just went from winter to summer, practically overnight, and skipped spring! Yay for discovering more flowering plants on your property! Lucky you! I'm sure the peonies will be lovely!
