The Weekend

Seems like I look forward to the weekend all week long and then, the weekend comes and goes in the blink of an eye!  Suddenly, it is Sunday night, the weekend is over, and I haven't done half the things I wanted to do!

Saturday, I spent a relaxed morning, watching sewing programs on TV, reading blogs, and replying to comments on my blog.  A comment by SandyExpat saying she went shopping to take advantage of a $10 off coupon and a 20% off coupon from one of the department stores reminded me that I, too, had received a similar coupon from them!  The $10 off coupon was valid until August 3, but the 20% off coupon was valid only until July 30.  At first, I couldn't think of anything I needed - I had already bought the pair of black pants I needed and had sewn the black blouse I had been wanting.  I had enough clothes and socks, etc., but $10 off is $10 off, so I thought I would go and see if I could find something.  As I got dressed, I realized what I could buy - an item that I did need and had been intending to buy "one day" - a replacement for an undergarment which was too stretched out to "lift and support" the way it was meant to!  I have a particular brand of bras that I prefer;  the regular price was $35, but it was on sale (40% off) for $19.99 and with my $10 off coupon and the additional 20% off stacked on top of that, I was able to purchase the item for $6.12 with tax!  Now, that was a good price!  Thank you, SandyExpat, for mentioning the coupon!  I would like to buy at least another one more; I'm hoping I'll be receiving another coupon in the mail, soon.

After that, I went to the grocery store to buy cat food and a few grocery items for myself: milk, fruit, and pancake mix.

Later, in the evening, I attended the monthly prayer gathering.  My cousin rode with me and I was glad of her company; I don't like to drive long distances by myself, these days, especially at night.  The prayer gathering was held at an aunt's house and was attended by family and friends.

I video chatted with my daughter after I came home, cleaned the litter box, and, went to bed late!

Sunday morning, I woke up feeling tired.  A friend and I had made tentative plans to go out to lunch, but when I called her in the morning, we both agreed to postpone our lunch date for another weekend.  I had a restful morning, watching some cooking programs on TV, reading blogs, and responding to comments.  My neighbor called and we had our Sunday morning chat.

I made pancakes and ate them with some of my fish curry for brunch.  Pancakes are my substitute for a type of Indian pancake known as "thosai" or "dosa/dosai" (the spellings vary) which is made from a batter of rice flour and urad (a type of lentil) flour.  Making thosai from scratch for breakfast means the batter must be made the night before or, if being made for dinner, the batter must be started in the morning.  Pancakes from a mix don't really taste the same, but it doesn't take much preparation time.

After brunch, I ran the dishwasher and washed the dishes I had been collecting over a couple of days. (I have to collect them for at least a couple of days in order to have enough dishes to justify running the dishwasher, which, I've been told, I should run at least once a week and which hasn't been run for about two weeks!).

The afternoon was too hot to do anything much, even if I had wanted to.  I cut out and sewed yet another tote bag, using fabric I had in the stash.

Kitten Tote Bag
I am planning to give this bag to one of my cousins who has a soft spot for cats and who has been there for me every step of my way up the mountain side.  Most recently, she had sent a request for candles to be lit at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and prayers to be said for my health when I went for my mammogram; I received an email from them confirming that they have done it according to her wishes.  I am so blessed to have her in my life.

Then, it was time for a nap!  After I woke up, I had a cup of tea and put water to the back garden.  Dinner was leftovers.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter.

This weekend, I am grateful for:
- Prayers and prayer gatherings
- Family and friends (including all my blog friends) who are there for me
- Coupons and good bargains
- A seemingly endless fabric stash!
- My daughter

How was your weekend?  Do you, too, look forward to the weekend all week and then, feel like the weekend just whizzed by?

  1. Weekends come and go far too quickly. I often find myself trying to play catch-up with the chores but it's important to take time to relax and enjoy yourself too.
It's good you were able to make use of your voucher. X

    1. There was a time when I used to have 3-day weekends on a regular basis (worked 10 hour days, 4 days a week) and it was still not enough! LOL. Hope all is well with you and you are enjoying your summer.

  2. I certainly know what you mean about the weekend being over in a blink of an eye. The same phenomenon happens here. As usual, we had a busy weekend of doing yard work, picking blueberries, and going to a funeral for a friend.

I don't know if you want to do this, but I'd like to see pictures of your fabric stash. I think it would be fun to see before and afters of everything you are making. I would find great satisfaction working through it all, so I am enjoying watching you do it.

    1. Live and Learn, I am sorry to hear your friend passed away. My deepest sympathies on your loss.

Sounds like you have had a busy weekend, although I do like the sound of picking blueberries. :) From your own garden? Or did you go to a "pick your own" type of place? Or did you find them when you were out hiking?

Ha, ha, I had posted some pictures of my fabric stash some time ago, but I will take some new pictures. I don't think there will be much of a difference, but it would be fun. It truly is a bottomless stash! I just found another half sewn item that my mother had started; I need to take a look at it to see if I can do something with it.

    2. My brother-in-law grows blueberries and this year's crop has been a bumper one. The berries are starting to get to old, so we were trying to get some before it was too late.

    3. Sounds great. Blueberry pancakes, muffins, and maybe even a pie!

  3. My weekends seem to move at the same speed, Bless! I have a similar coupon to Kohl's but missed out on the weekend deal, so will have to run in today to take advantage of it. Luckily there is one very close to where I live.

I was curious if a pancake would taste like a dosa! I love them but couldn't quite reconcile the two different flavors in my mind. But of course a pancake can serve a similar purpose.

You have been on quite a tear with your sewing and making. Your cousin sounds like a wonderful person and I'm sure she will enjoy the tote bag.

    1. We need longer weekends, I think! LOL. I am having a 4-day weekend, since I took Friday off and today, too, but it's still not enough!

Hope you are able to make a trip to Kohl's; do you have a particular purchase in mind?

No, pancakes don't really taste like dosa and the texture is a little different, too, but, they make a good enough substitute, in my opinion. I make the batter a little thinner than for regular pancakes so the resulting pancake is thinner and not as fluffy.

I'm in the mood to sew. It keeps my mind focused on something other than worrying about the state of my health and gives me something to do other than nervous eating. :)

  4. Well done with your $10 off coupon + 20% at Kohl's - you definitely were a winner.

I am with you about not wanting to drive very far at night by myself. Not sure if it is the times that we live in or part of the aging process. I had absolutely no fear when I was much younger, going many places by myself, shopping late etc.

Your sweet cousin is going to love that kitten tote bag.

"the weekend comes and goes in the blink of an eye" - Why when we are young does time seem to move so slowly? Another age thing or ?

    1. Sandy, thank you, again, for mentioning the coupon! I was very pleased with my purchase. :)

I think, for me, the reluctance to drive long distances by myself in the evening is a result of the aging process. I now have to wear distance glasses when I drive, especially at night, and I don't feel as vulnerable if something happens, if there is someone else with me.

Time did pass more slowly when we were children, didn't it? I think it slows down again when one gets much older, too, when we are unable to do a lot of things. I saw it happening with my mother and now, one of my aunts, as she approaches her 90th year.

  5. Weekends fly, but so does the rest of the week. It feels like it should just be getting into May and the year is more than half over. How did that happen?

  6. What a great bargain for your new bra with the voucher and all. I hope you get another voucher soon.
The tote bag is cute and a great gift for your cousin.
Sunday afternoon went fast. We had a power outage and since I couldn't do the things I wanted to do (I figured that for two or three hours predicted I didn't need to haul out the generator) I got into a puzzle book and the time just flew. I find puzzles, especially word puzzles, quite addictive, so later I put the book away in a carry-on suitcase where I keep it for amusement in airports.

    1. Glad you were able to have an "unplugged" afternoon, Bushlady. I always carry a crossword puzzles book with me when I go to the doctor's office, etc.
