Giving Tuesday!

I do wonder who comes up with these names for the different days following Thanksgiving!  Today is supposed to be Giving Tuesday when we give to charity, after shopping to our hearts' content on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday!

Today, daughter went back to Berkeley.  I gave her two of the packages of sugar, two boxes of cereal, two bags of chocolate chips I had bought for her, a bag of frozen meatball curry, and one of the mini apple tarts to take back with her.  She said she had some of the meatball curry for her dinner and the apple tart for dessert.

I also gave her the plum colored sweater I had knitted!  I knitted it for myself, but I felt she needed it more than I did, as it is much colder up in Berkeley than it is down here.  It is a bit too big for her, but she doesn't mind that.  It is one of her favorite colors and it will keep her warm.  I will see if I can get more of that color yarn to make her a sweater that is slightly smaller; then, she can have that and I can take back my sweater!

Daughter had some of the leftover Thai food for an early lunch.  I drove her to the airport in the early afternoon (her flight was at 2:00 p.m.) and came home.  I had considered going grocery shopping for milk and coffee creamer, but I decided I could manage till the weekend.   After I came home, I had some cucumber salad and a cold cuts sandwich.  Then, I took a nap on the sofa!

Today's hat:

Red Hat #3

Do you recognize the pattern?  It is the same as the pattern I am doing on my grey sweater, except, I changed the spacing to eliminate the stitches in between the pattern.  I like how the "little birds" form a honeycomb pattern.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe flight back
- Being able to give her food to take back
- A restful day
- Afternoon naps
- Video chatting with daughter

Tomorrow, I will go to the office and "resume regular programming", as they say.

How was your Tuesday?

  1. Such a good feeling isn't it to be able to help our children however we are able. I am sure your daughter will think of you whenever she wears the plum sweater.

Love your red hats - hard to pick a favorite. In fact I wouldn't mind a red hat in a bigger size myself.

Like your daughter Tuesday was a long travel day for us. Didn't sleep well Monday night. The older I get I find travel exhausting. The long lines, security, crowded planes, etc. We no longer take the train when we reach our home airport but arrange for a car service to meet us, quite expensive but worth it as we age. Our driver told us that the last couple of days had been very windy and in the low 70s when normal daytime temperature high is in the 40s.

Enjoy your back to regular programming. Won't be long till your beloved daughter is back home.

    1. Glad you had a safe journey home, even if it was long and tiring. Good idea to take a car service back to your home. At a certain point in our lives, consideration of our comfort has to take over.

Daughter, actually, has several of my sweaters! :D Ones I've knitted and a couple that were given to me! I don't mind.

  2. Glad your daughter got back okay. Love your knitting! I took the hat I made with me when I went to Minnesota. Daughter said she wanted one. Luckily I found it easy to knit so should be able to get one done by the time she comes in a few weeks.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I'm sure your daughter will love getting a knitted hat. Is she coming down for Christmas?

  3. The red had looks great. How neat to be able to use the same pattern in a different way.
Yesterday I was looking at some budget-priced drapery panels in the store, thinking I might cut one down for the bathroom window to replace the faded one. Suddenly I had an inspiration. I have a tablecloth that I bought that I don't particularly like using as it is too slippery on the table. But it is a pretty turquoise with a pattern woven in, and good fabric. I tried it against the window and decided that it looked great. Now I just have to cut it and hem the top and use the ring clips from the other one, and make a matching tie back as well. I was pleased as I don't have to donate the tablecloth or buy new drapery. Just have to get round to some simple sewing.

    1. Thanks, Bushlady. I had fun experimenting with the pattern. But today's hat was just garter stitch!

Well done with repurposing the table cloth! Glad you are able to make use of what you already have and can save a little money at the same time. :)

  4. I think the caps are adorable and some Valentine babies are going to meet the world in high fashion.

    1. Thank you, Anne. I probably won't have time to make as many hats as I'd like to before the end of December deadline, but I'll make what I can.

  5. Another lovely pattern and a super quick knit! I bet DD was thrilled with her jumper. Amy walks around is things that I either want to stretch because they're so tiny or so big they'd fit Mark. The idea of wearing something that actually fits her doesn't seem to cross her mind lol.

Now you've mentioned it, I wonder who does start all these named days off. Possibly the media? xx

    1. Thanks, Suzanne. I remember all the lovely things you made for your various organizations and thinking I should do something, too. So, when my friend told me about the hats, I decided this was an opportunity to get involved.

Daughter loves oversized sweaters, but I've told her I'll make her another one that will fit her a little better.
