Tuesday's Activities and a Christmas/Holiday Gift List

On Tuesday, I went to the office and had a busy day, trying to clear my desk.  I plan to spend some time next week, too, tidying my desk and filing everything.  Even so, no doubt I will get phone calls at home asking where X, Y, and Z items are!  And I won't remember, because they are no longer spread out on my desk and have been filed away!  And because I will probably have "chemo brain"!

During my morning break, I went to the pharmacy to look for the clear adhesive dressings the doctor prescribed, but that particular pharmacy didn't carry them.  The pharmacist suggested I checked the hospital pharmacy to see if they had them.  I will do that next week.

Later, during my lunch break, I went to the bank to withdraw some cash.  When I used to receive a paper check, I used to go to the bank once every two weeks to deposit my check and withdraw spending cash.  Now, I have direct deposit and I need to make a special trip to the bank for cash withdrawals.  That's going to be difficult when I am undergoing chemo and avoiding public places.

After work, I put gas to the car ($28.05).  Later, after dinner, daughter and I relaxed and watched some TV programs.

I went through this week's grocery ads, but didn't find anything I needed to stock up on.  I didn't go grocery shopping last weekend, either, choosing to eat what I had already cooked and kept in the fridge. I might get another gallon of milk this weekend and maybe some fresh fruits and vegetables, but that's all I need.

And, I made my Christmas/holiday gift list (I say "holiday gifts" because some of my gifts are New Year's gifts).  This year, I have really cut back on the number of people to whom I will be giving gifts for Christmas and New Year, because I won't be seeing them over the holiday season.  I feel guilty about that, however, and so, there is a chance I will spend the Thanksgiving weekend making a double batch of jam to give as early holiday gifts!  I might not see them, but I could always send them the gifts through my daughter or through one of my cousins.  I have a feeling I might be expanding my gift list before all is said and done!

Have you made your Christmas/holiday gift list, yet?

Today, I am grateful for:

- Helpful service personnel at the pharmacy and bank
- A productive day at the office
- The availability of gas
- A relaxed evening spent in daughter's company
- Exchanging emails with a friend.

  1. I think you are getting the set up just right. btw I don't know how Amazon operate in the States but I got dressings from Amazon in the UK. Be careful about keeping a stash of money. Do you know an atm that is easy to access, safe but not too crowded? Sending hugs and prayers. Sybil xxx

    1. Thank you, Sybil. I did find that the dressings are available on-line. But I might not need to order any - I saw the dr. today and she didn't want me to use any dressing! I avoid using atm's but I can use the drive-through window at the bank, if needed.

  2. I started working on a gift list the other day. I usually have a lot done already, but I'm behind this year. I hate Christmas shopping and I really can't afford a lot this year. I have a general idea of what I'm going to get everybody except the parents, so I guess that's something. I have 5 people's gifts sitting in my Amazon cart, but I'm waiting til after Thanksgiving just to make sure nothing changes.

    1. Sounds like you've already made quite a bit of progress on organizing your Christmas gifts, Jess. Would your parents like a nice framed picture of Little Wolf, as their gift? Some people I know are able to have personalized calendars, using pictures of their children, through some on-line site. Perhaps something to look into? I've no idea how much it costs, though. I'll be posting some low-cost gift suggestions, in the next few days.

  3. Hi, I'm sure you realize money is the filthiest item imaginable. I hope you've looked at the best of the credit cards that offer as much as 5% rebate for items like groceries and gas. The posted interest rate doesn't matter because it is easy peasy to pay the bill electronically, two business days before it's due date. Electronic payments is also the most efficient and cost effective for routine utilities, bills during treatment and recuperation time. It will relieve your mind of deadlines, preparing envelopes, buying stamps and limitations. Pay for effective date from your keyboard 24/7.

    A quick air canister spray or daily swab with a paper towel misted with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide keeps your keyboard safer. I hope it's ok to suggest you use waterless cleaner for hands each time you leave treatment centre. {My doctor hates the stuff but I believe hospitals and medical treatment centers are full of bacteria and air borne virus}

    1. Thanks for the tips about taking precautions to protect myself from germs, Hon.

As for credit cards, on-line banking and bill paying, etc., I am not a fan of any of it. I have experienced just how poor their so-called secure websites, etc. can be.

    1. Frugal, so lovely to hear from you again! Hope all is going well with you and DH, and Murf, too, of course. :) As for Christmas gifts, hope you can figure something out in the next few days. Is there something he can make for you?

  5. Oh my- I don't feel like one month is enough time for us to get ready for Christmas- we have had such a busy year that I feel like we are just 'winging it' this year. :)
I think we are going to keep things simple as usual and just go with the flow. We did get the kids a couple of small gifts each- this year we aren't going to get too much. The kids already feel like it's Christmas because they are still unpacking boxes with some of their toys and games and books that they haven't seen in six months, so they are already feeling like they have been showered with lots of stuff. :)
It sounds like you are doing really well planning everything out for the weeks ahead. I am glad that your daughter is able to be home with you this holiday. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and my prayers in the weeks ahead, my friend.
I wish you and your daughter a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!! ((HUGS)) :)

    1. Dawn, you've definitely had a very busy year, so a quiet Christmas might be appreciated by the whole family. I don't believe that children need a whole pile of gifts, and gifts don't have to cost a lot, either.

Thank you for the good wishes. Daughter and I both appreciate them. And I wish you and your family the very best, this Thanksgiving. Good health and many blessings to you and yours, Dawn.
