More Sewing on Friday

I've spent another very relaxing day, sewing, on Friday.  I've used up almost all of the tiny scraps of fabric I had collected in a gallon sized plastic bag!  I need to make three more crumb pieced squares and that will give me enough for the two sides of the quilt.  I checked my fabric stash and I have enough solid colored fabric for the borders and something I plan to use for the backing.

In the evening, M came to tend to the garden.  He watered and tidied the garden for me.  I served him a bowl of the soup I had made and gave him a container of it to take home, too.

Not a lot of housework not done, today, but, I cleaned the litter box and did some paperwork.

Today, I am grateful for:

- M tending to the garden for me
- Time to sew
- A working sewing machine and iron
- Electricity to run them
- Cooler temperatures

Today's joyful activity was sewing!

Plans for tomorrow include more sewing and maybe some laundry.

What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. You are having so much pleasure from making your quilt it's time well spent and your quilt will look lovely when it's all finished. I've been to collect my new glasses and my sight is much improved now although I do have cataracts but not bad enough to need surgery thank goodness.

    1. I am having a lot of fun, Eileen. This was the reason why I felt my time management was all out of kilter - I was spending too much time doing other things instead of what I really wanted to do, which was sew a quilt! I decided it was OK for me to take time to sew and if it means the housework gets a "lick and a promise", so be it! :D
I'm glad you collected your new glasses and you can see better with them. :) I, too, have cataracts, but, like you, I don't need surgery yet.

  2. When I was a kid/teen my mom unwound when she was sewing. It was like a Zen experience for her. I was on the opposite end of the sewing spectrum and it was painful for me to sew. We had the perfect trade off. I would go to the kitchen and zone out while making meals, and she would make me beautiful clothes while she relaxed.

    1. My mother, too, loved to sew. Clothes and things, mostly; she always claimed she didn't have the patience for patchwork! You and your mom had the perfect trade off! :)

  3. It sounds like you've had a very pleasant day working your way slowly through your stash!

I've been watching the TV coverage of the Queen's lying in state and saw her four children stand vigil. It's the turn of her grandchildren either today or tomorrow. In between that I've found another branch of the U3A to try out. It has a few groups I think I'll enjoy and will start off with their book group in October.

    1. I had a lovely day, Eileen, although, towards the end, I felt a bit guilty about all the time I'm spending sewing instead of doing housework!
I've been watching BBC news coverage on their website and saw the footage of the late Queen's children stand vigil. Monday's funeral will be shown live on our TV, but, with the 8 hour time difference, it will be shown during the wee hours of the morning, over here! I am planning to stay up to watch it. :)
I'm glad you found a different U3A group to try; hope you'll enjoy the book group. October is not that far away, is it? :)

  4. I'm glad that you are looking after M as he seems to be looking after your garden very well. The sewing sounds like something that feeds the soul - very necessary.

  5. It's good to know that you are relaxing with your sewing and recharging your batteries. I have a feeling that if you keep it up much longer you will have a good excuse to buy some more fabric soon! 🙂

    1. Ha, ha, Bushlady, you might have seen through my strategy! :D I did say I will not buy more fabric until I've used up my stash! :D

  6. It sounds like you are enjoying your quilt making and what could be better than that? :)
It's a very nice quilt and I think your arrangement has drawn every thing together nicely.
And you are putting a nice dent in your stash and that can only mean one thing, right? Pretty soon it might be time to do some guilt-free fabric purchasing.

    1. I am really enjoying making this quilt, Debra, and my daughter says she can tell because I seem happier! I am very pleased with how the scrap quilt is turning out - I didn't start with a design in mind, but, let it evolve as it went! Yes! I'm making a dent in the stash! Ha, ha, yes, it might be time to do some guilt-free fabric shopping, soon! :D

  7. I'm sure that with all the extra love that has been stitched into the quilt (not to mention furry contributions from Quality Control) that quilt will be extra warm and comforting for anyone who sleeps under it!
