Hot on Sunday

Sunday's Temperature

110F with a humidity of 21%.  At one time in the afternoon, they thought the high would be 112F, but, I don't think we reached that.  Also at one point in the afternoon, they thought it might rain and there was a notification that appeared on my computer screen to expect rain in 30 minutes!  I didn't believe that because there were no rain clouds in my area.  It might have rained somewhere else, but, we didn't have any rain in my area.

I stayed in the family room until around 3:00 p.m. and then, went into the bedroom and turned the a/c unit on and stayed there.  At about 6:30 p.m., I opened the windows to air out the house and turned the a/c unit off, but, I stayed in the cooler room until 7:30 p.m.  Today, even Dancer chose to stay inside the cool room without fussing!  LOL.

I wasn't very productive, today.  I considered sewing myself a cotton blouse (I have very few cotton blouses and none that is sleeveless and I thought it would be nice to have one to wear in this heat).  I went so far as to pull out a pattern, cut out the pattern pieces, and choose a piece of fabric from the stash.  But, the pattern required facings, etc., and it was really too fiddly to sew in this heat!  I was getting frustrated just trying to pin down the pattern pieces without them blowing around for the fan.  In the end, I just folded up the pattern pieces and put everything away.  I will figure out another way to sew a simple cotton top!  I just want something that will be cool and comfortable to wear during this heatwave!

I did start the car and let it run for a few minutes and I cleaned the litter box.  Called friend R and chatted with her for a bit; she said she went to the shopping mall because it was air conditioned and spent several hours there.  I haven't been to a mall since before the pandemic!  End of December 2019 was the last time I was inside a mall.

My daughter had another migraine, today, after about a month of not getting them.  She took the over-the-counter medication her doctor had recommended she took and said she felt better after a few hours, but, not before she felt some different migraine symptoms like cold hands and feet, that she had not felt on previous occasions.  She said she checked her temperature at one time, because she was feeling chills, but, her temperature was normal.  I'm glad it's a long weekend and she has a holiday tomorrow to rest.

Brunch, today, was a mango, followed by an egg salad sandwich.  I had another egg salad sandwich with my evening cup of tea.  Dinner was a salad and a piece of cold chicken.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter is feeling better after her migraine headache
- The room air conditioner and fans
- Electricity to run them
- The car started without any problems
- Easy, cool meals

Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter, who was feeling better.

Today's decluttering included two glass jars (I had been using them to root plant cuttings in water, but, the cuttings didn't root and the jars are not needed).

Tomorrow, Monday, is Labor Day and a holiday here, in the USA and in Canada, too, I believe.  It is considered the unofficial end of summer and one is not supposed to wear white after Labor Day (although I admit I wear white even after Labor Day).   I don't have any plans, as such, for tomorrow.  The weather forecast says it will be 107F, tomorrow.  Currently, just before midnight, it is 85F outside and 90F inside.  Although the house remains cooler than outside during the daytime, it doesn't cool down much at night!

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday/Labor Day?

  1. I hope you have a break in the heat soon. Here, we would consider 21% humidity very low-low enough that I would be suffering. Is that high for you?

    1. Thank you, June; according to the forecast, we will be in the triple digits this week, but, we might go down to the low 90s next weekend. :) 21% humidity is not that high; today's is at 39%, but, that amount of humidity makes me feel sticky. It was much better when we were at 112F with 9% humidity, last week. :)

  3. I can't imagine thinking "I'll make a blouse", then going and doing it! (I know you aborted the plan, but even so...) I hope you can find a pattern that is quick to complete in your current temps, and that it will be comfortable to wear. Hope that migraine doesn't linger. Good to be able to find a medication that is reliable, but yes they do take a while, and other symptoms can still hang around afterwards.

    1. Well, yes, that plan didn't work out too well, didn't it? Like that rocket they were trying to send to the moon - mission aborted. But, stay tuned...there might be some progress to report. :)
Thank you; my daughter says she's feeling better, today. :)

  4. Do you have a blouse in your wardrobe that you can alter instead of making one from scratch in that heat? I'm not surprised you weren't very productive ... that is way too hot for anyone. I know this will be a disappointment to you but I won't be visiting now until the temperature drops!

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter had another migraine but am glad the new meds seem to have worked for her. I often get the cold hands and feet symptoms when I have a migraine ... it's not pleasant so I feel for her.

    1. I considered it, Eileen, but, I really didn't have many cotton tops that could be altered easily. I had a couple of cooler tops, but, I must have donated them, earlier, because I couldn't find them!
Aw, are you sure? It is supposed to cool down to the low 90s this weekend, if you'd like to change your mind! LOL. Actually, I try not to entertain during the summer because it is so hot and I don't have central a/c. I'll see you sometime in the winter. :)
Thank you; my daughter is feeling better, today. It was the first time she felt the cold hands and feet (and chills, later); she also said she felt light-headed/vertigo - another first.

  5. I think it must be too hot to do anything and frustrating for you that the pattern pieces were blowing about with the fan going, I don't blame you for giving up. I hope your daughter recovers fully from that nasty migraine after a well deserved day of rest.

    1. It was too hot to do anything, yesterday, Eileen. It was a little cooler, today (104F). I gave up on the pattern I was using, but, I will try it another time. :)
Thank you; my daughter is feeling better, today. :)

  6. We are having a rainy Labor Day, so the plans for grilling are off the table. TheHub actually is staying home today and I hope he just rests and relaxes.

  7. That heat is crazy. It may be worth making a few cotton tops over winter when it's easier to be ready for next summer.

Poor Dancer, so stressed that he isn't even bugging you lol!

I hope that your daughter feels better soon. It must be tough, being at the mercy of those migraines.

    1. Yes, this is the longest heatwave we've had, I think. It's a good idea to sew some new cotton blouses for next summer! I got rid of the majority of what I had because they were so old and worn and didn't take the time to make a few new ones!
Dancer is not enjoying this heat!
Thank you, Lyssa; my daughter is feeling better, today.

  8. Stay cool, Bless.
It was 90F this morning here. A bit better than in CA.

I hope your daughter is all well now.

    1. Thank you, Nil; I'm trying! 90F is hot especially when it is humid.
My daughter is feeling better, today, thank you, Nil.

  9. It is too hot there! You will laugh, as I am actually a little chilly now! No a/c, it's just gone into the 60s here! Could you move a chair into your bedroom so you can sit there to sew? I am glad to read that your daughter is feeling better. Migraines are terrible to cope with.

    1. Oh, wow, that's quite a change in the weather for you, isn't it? I'd be chilly, too, if it went down to 60F! I need to figure something out - I used to have a folding metal chair in the room, which I took out, last year. The room is really too small to fit both the side table and a chair, but, I might be able to push the bed to a side to clear up some space.
Thank you, Celie; yes, my daughter is feeling better, today. :)

  10. It must be muggy if even Dancer deigned to remain in the bedroom without fussing. I can understand you wanting to make a cotton blouse, as I had days earlier in the summer when everything felt too hot. I hope your daughter soon recovers fully. I meant to comment yesterday that I liked her painting. I could imagine the sun coming through that window.
I really enjoyed the family visit. We watched a couple of episodes of "Heartland" after supper on Saturday, and went down to the river for a walk together on Sunday. DS has done some useful yard work with help from DDIL, and DGD was able to show me her riding videos. They left after lunch today and I took another walk down to the river. It was another lovely sunny day,

    1. It is rather muggy, Bushlady. I'm not accustomed to feeling quite so sticky and damp!
My daughter is feeling better today, thank you.
I'm glad you enjoyed a lovely visit with the family. Your DGD must be quite a young lady now; I remember you talking about her when she was just a little girl. :)

  11. Good idea making a nice cool top to wear when it's this hot. Unfortunately, you may have to wait until it's not so hot to do so! lol
You are managing to get a few things done each day - I don't think I would be doing much as this kind of weather just zaps you of any energy.
For crafting I'd be embroidering on a small piece of cotton or making granny squares or knitting dish cloths :)

Reading through I am glad to read that your daughter is feeling better.
Was that the first time she took this particular medicine? Maybe the cold hands, etc were side effects of the medicine as opposed to her migraine itself - just a thought since she never had those symptoms before.
Does friend R have a/c in her home? Going to the mall probably kept her nice and cool.

    1. LOL, yes, it was a good idea, wasn't it? :D Unfortunately, it didn't work out on Sunday, but, read what I did on Monday! :D
I am just doing the bare minimal, each day, Debra, but, that is OK. I'll give the house a good clean when it isn't quite as warm! I need to get back to my quilt making!
My daughter is taking Excedrin, and yes, it is the first time she's taken it. At first, she, too, thought that the cold hands and feet were a side effect of the medication, but, apparently, they are part of the migraine symptoms (she read online). Her doctor has said that, if she doesn't respond well to the Excedrin, then, she'll need to take a prescription medication which will have to be taken daily, not just when she gets a headache.
Yes, friend R does have an a/c unit in her apartment, but, she doesn't want to run it due to the cost. We are all trying to keep our electricity bills down!
