Almost Sweater Weather

Cooler Than Normal

I felt a bit chilly this morning!  The temperature in the family room was not quite 72F!  We were in the triple digits not too long ago!  I dressed in a pair of sweatpants, a long sleeved blouse, and socks!  It was a cloudy, overcast morning, but, it was sunny in the afternoon with a daytime high of 76F, which was below what our normal temperature would have been (84F).

Today, I changed my bed sheets and did a load of laundry.  Later, I tidied the kitchen, did the dishes, and scrubbed the stove top.  I took the last of the Asian pears over to neighbor S to give to her mother (S had mentioned her mother had enjoyed the ones I had taken over to them, earlier), chatted on the phone with aunt C, friend R, and later, video chatted with my daughter.  I had a bowl of soup for brunch and cooked rice and a chicken curry for dinner, along with some moringa curry I had prepared, earlier.

I also sewed the last of the patchwork blocks I needed to add to the sides of the quilt top.  Tomorrow, I plan to sew them into rows and sew to the quilt top.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Warm clothes!
- Working appliances
- Being able to share the Asian pears with S and her mother
- Phone chats with family and friends
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was more sewing!

Plans for tomorrow include more sewing!

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Lovely temperatures! :)
You will be turning on your new furnace before you know it lol
Gosh - remember how the flames would shoot out of the old one?
    That was scary.
It was 51 here yesterday morning and I loved it!

    1. It is a blessing to have the cooler temperatures after the heatwave, that's for sure! I am going to try and hold off turning on the furnace till at least November, but, we'll see how that works out! Sounds like Fall in your area! :)

  2. It was 15ºc in my living room this morning but it gradually warmed up without needing to put the heating on. It's currently 18.5ºc at 3pm and I'm cuddled up under a blanket while I catch up with blogs. Strangely I'm not cold at all, just comfortable! I hope yours warms up for you as I know you don't like it to be too cold.

Do you find the time passes quickly when you are sewing? I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

    1. I'm glad it warmed up for you, Eileen, and you are feeling comfortable and not cold. 15C would be cold for me and I'd be all bundled up even at 18.5C (almost 65F).
Time does pass quickly when I am sewing! I usually have the TV on (news or some nature program on Public TV) while I sew and I really don't feel the time passing! I promise to post pictures of the quilt as soon as it is done! :)

  3. Cooler here this weekend too, Bless, it was 21 in the bungalow and showing 9 outside! Definitely time to wrap a little more warmly! On Saturday I stripped my bed and dried the linen in the sun during the afternoon. Today (Sunday) I have been making veg soup and the slow cooker is on for a beef stew for G. which should make him 3 meals in all. Slowly topping up the freezer for the colder weather!

    1. It's getting to be that time of the year when soups and stews and extra layers of clothing are needed! I, too, made a pot of soup, last week and will be making some stew later on. :)

  4. It's gone much chillier here too. I am going to have to put the heavier weight duvet on our bed and wear my winter jumpers. I'm holding off turning on the central heating with energy prices set to become very expensive.

    1. I pile on the quilts when it gets cold, here, Eileen, wear layers. My ability to tolerate higher temperatures during the summer means I can't tolerate the cooler temperatures in the winter! I feel cold very quickly. But, I am going to try and keep the furnace off until November; our natural gas prices will be going up, too (I heat the house with natural gas).

  5. We have had similar temperatures recently and it is chilly (although if it was like this in February we would be ecstatic!). It was milder last night, never went below 59°F and it was the same this morning, but now at 3 pm it is about 64°F. When I came out of church this morning there was a flash of lightning and one clap of thunder, no rain. I went to pick up a sub for lunch and left my umbrella in the car. It began to pour with rain and I had to race out, fortunately parked close by the door. It pelted down almost all the way home. Now it is dry again. I think we were on the edge of the storm system, thank goodness.

    1. I'm a wimp when it comes to tolerating the colder temperatures, but, you know that, already! :D I can't imagine how I managed those winters in Wisconsin, but, I didn't feel quite as cold then as I do now! Glad you were able to have a safe drive home in the rain and now I want a sub for my lunch, too! I haven't had one since before the pandemic!

  6. What a change in your weather. Sounds perfect, that is if you have sweaters and sweat pants. :)

    1. It's a 30+ degree change in the weather from a couple of weeks ago, June, and while it is nice to have the cooler weather, I would have liked it a bit warmer for a little longer! But, the forecast is for mid-80s, next week, and I know I will enjoy that. I'll be layering up with my sweaters, soon!

  7. Definitely sweater and shawl weather here. I love it. I put a blanket or shawl (or both) around me and it feels like a hug. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the quilt turns out.

    1. One can never have too many sweaters and shawls, I think! Or, quilts, for that matter! :D I'll be posting pictures of the quilt as soon as I've finished it.

  8. That's wonderful. I completed the short row heel on a pair of socks that I'm making. The yarn is Noro Silk Garden, and it's gorgeous. Planted some seeds in the garden: carrots, lettuce and spinach. Enjoyed a leisurely hike with Jacques in the mountains.

    1. Just the name of the yarn sounds lovely! Sounds like you will be growing a nice winter garden! I haven't planned what I will be planting, other than peas!

  9. Sweater weather eh? I went out at the weekend without one! Ha! ;o) Temps have dropped quite a bit but it is still really warm in the low sun, especially when the wind drops.

    1. Well, it has since warmed up, nicely! Today's high was 98F and tomorrow will be 99F and Wednesday will be 100F. Not sweater weather, right now, but, maybe later in October. :) I am a wimp when it comes to cooler weather! You are made of sterner stuff than I am! :D
