Productive Sunday

Work in Progress

Yesterday's music ended at 1:30 a.m., which was actually, rather early for them!  I was surprised.  Maybe the neighbor in the house behind them complained.  In any case, I was able to open a window and cool down the house before I went to bed.

It was relatively cool this morning (below 80F) and after my morning cup of tea and prayers, I did a load of laundry, scrubbed the toilet, and vacuumed the house.

Afterwards, I replied to blog comments and commented on a couple of other blogs.  Later in the afternoon, I sat down to sew on my quilt top.  I am using the leftover piece from the Roman Stripe quilt as my center block!  I can see pieces of fabric from three dresses my mother made for herself and at least two dresses she sewed for me!  Others are leftovers from other sewing projects.  Surrounding that center block are the 3-inch squares I cut out.  While I sewed, I watched some musical programs on TV.

I also called neighbor T in the afternoon.  She had called and left a message, yesterday, but, it was too late to call her back when I saw that I had a message and checked it.  She said she is 90% settled in and she likes the place.  She said she feels guilty asking the people there to do things for her, but, I told her not to feel guilty because she is paying for those services!  She said her daughter was coming to see her a bit later in the afternoon, so, I told her to have a good visit with her daughter and I'll talk to her, later in the week.

Later, I called friend R and chatted with her.

I had a scrambled egg and toast for my brunch, today.  For dinner, I made the shirataki noodles, stir fried with a sausage, broccoli, chili powder, sesame seeds, and roasted peanuts:

Shirataki Noodles Stir Fry

I drizzled the top with a little bit of hot sauce before I ate it.  There's another serving of the noodles leftover for tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A cooler day
- Getting the housework done
- Chats with friends and neighbors
- Time to sew
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was sewing.

Plans for tomorrow include a little more housework (dusting), another load of laundry (my bedsheets, etc.), watering the garden, and taking the trash cans to the curb.  Of course, there will be some sewing, too!

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for the week?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Lovely to hear from you! It's always a pleasure to comment on your blog. Please don't let one blogger spoil it all for you; consider what I said about taking your blog private if you feel that might be an option.

  2. I LOVE your quilt. I am so looking forward to settling down to quilting this autumn. Simple 9patch squares seem a good way forward. I keep seeing "Disappearing 9 patch" ideas on you tube - but that although they are clever, and pretty, it adds twice as much work to the finished article. I love the fact that you have used "heritage" fabrics from the family. What a lovely link with your Mum. All on edge right now as new grandchild is due this week. Finding it hard to settle. I did lots of gardening yesterday evening when it was cooler. I have decided that lettuce and tomatoes are definitely the things which grow best for me. Good job I like salad. Have a lovely week, Bless

    1. Thank you, Angela. 9 patch blocks are just as lovely on their own, without making them disappear! I made an Irish Chain quilt using simple 9 patch blocks, once. Not too many fabric left in the stash from when my mother sewed our clothes, but, this quilt will have several of them. :)
I am sure you are all anticipating the arrival of the new grandchild! Hope it will be a safe and easy delivery and both mum and baby will be fine.
Glad your lettuce and tomatoes are doing well! I might try my hand at growing lettuce this winter. My tomatoes didn't do anything this year!
Hope your week goes well, Angela. :)

  3. Using your stash like that turns it into a memory quilt. It looks really good. Are you pleased with it and have you decided what you are going to do with it?

It's lovely to hear that T is settling in and likes the home, and also that you are able to keep in touch by phone. Is it far from your home? Maybe you could meet her outdoors in the garden or does that feel too risky for you?

I'm glad the party next door finished relatively early and you were able to open windows and cool your house down before you went to bed.

I'm waiting for L to arrive ... I hope she hurries up because I'm hungry and want my lunch!!

    1. Yes, a lot of my quilts are memory quilts because I am still using scraps leftover from clothes my mother made. This current quilt also includes fabric from the bassinette cover my mother made for my daughter! (I gave away the bassinette, but, the cover is stored in a suitcase!). I am pleased with the progress so far. It's not finished, yet. Currently, it is almost big enough for a crib quilt, but, I have a queen sized bed!

It was good to chat with T; her new place is not that far from my home, but, I am not sure just how mobile she is to meet out in the garden. I will wait and see how things progress before attempting to visit her.

I hope L arrived soon after you commented and you were able to enjoy a lovely lunch with her! :)

  4. You are really making progress on the quilt. How much more do you have to piece?

    1. Thank you, June. I've quite a ways to go. The part I've sewn right now is about the size of a crib quilt; I've a queen sized bed! I have all those disappearing nine patch blocks I sewed to attach, next. :) This will be a real mish-mash of a quilt, but, I think I can pull it off, if I separate everything with borders!

  5. Your quilt is coming along quickly & looks lovely. We get our new neighbours moving in on Wednesday, & my prayers are that they are respective neighbours. They are a retired couple so hopefully not wild party-iers. Nice that your neighbours shut down the music early enough for you to have the windows open :)

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I'm having fun sewing it!
Oh, I hope your new neighbors are friendly and considerate. Most of my neighbors are nice and even the noisy neighbors are good people, it's just that their parties tend to be a bit loud! :D

  6. Your quilt is coming along nicely! And how nice to have memories tied to it. I can see how that would double to the joy of sewing.

  9. It's good that you are a night owl as at least you weren't kept awake by the neighbours' music if they stopped at 1.30 am! The quilt is amazing. I see butterflies hiding in some of the patches. I'm glad to hear that T is settling in well in the residence. It must be a relief for her daughter to know that she is in a place where care is immediately at hand.
We had a surprise yesterday as the dog next door was heard barking and showed up later on the deck looking for handouts! I guess the family holiday is over. DH has set off this afternoon and will stay overnight at our son's. I guess I will find myself busy with e-mails and checking on his flights on flightradar24.com!

    1. I remember one year, when my daughter was in high school, when the neighbors had a party on a week night! It was a Tuesday night, if I recall, and my daughter was studying for an AP (Advanced Placement) test the following morning. She eventually gave up and went to bed around 2:00 a.m. and the music was still going strong. Then, around 2:30 a.m., we heard a car horn being sounded long and hard and someone shouting - it was the lady in the house behind the noisy neighbor's house and she was furious! I guess she called the police and they told her to try telling the neighbors to turn the music down - I guess they were too busy to respond to the call themselves. That made her even angrier! She stood there and screamed some choice words at them and they turned down the music! I think that was the last time they had one of their late night loud parties on a week night! LOL.
I don't mind them partying till the wee hours, but, I do wish
they'd turn the music down after midnight.

Thank you, Bushlady; yes, there are butterflies in some of the patches! :) I used some of that butterfly fabric in my Mountain Climbing quilt, too. :)

Yes, I think T is in the best place for her for right now. I think it is a relief for her daughter, too, to know that there is help available when her mother needs it.
Ha, ha, yes, if the dog next door showed up for treats, then, I guess the family is back from their holiday! :)
Hope your DH will have a safe trip. I know you will keep yourself busy and the dog next door will check on you, from time to time. :)

  10. The quilt is looking lovely. It makes it really special that it has material from those things in it. Must be lovely to remember such good memories when you look at it.

  11. Your quilt looks so good! I love all the colors and the different shapes.
And how nice that you have some pieces from your Mother's dresses and also from the ones she made for you.

I'm glad to hear neighbor T is settled in and is happy with the place. It's good you can call her again to do your weekly check in.

    1. Thank you, Debra. This might be the last quilt to have pieces of fabric leftover from when my mother sewed our clothes, which, considering the fact that she's been dead for 16 years and she stopped sewing a couple of years prior to that, makes sense!
Yes, it's good to know that T is settled in to her new place. I spoke with her daughter, yesterday, and she said that T is liking the routine at the facility. :)

  12. How wonderful to see all those memories in that gorgeous quilt. Totally respect your talent. We've had bad neighbours in the past, particularly with noise, and it makes me really appreciate good neighbours.
