Friday

Dancer Claims a Basket

I woke up once at 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning, after less than 3 hours of sleep; I turned off the porch lights, fed Dancer, considered getting up, but, decided I needed more sleep and went back to bed!  The second time I woke up, it was almost 11:30 a.m.!  I had had 7 hours of sleep and I figured that was good enough.  By the time I had got dressed, put out food for Mama Cat who was no where to be seen, and fed Dancer for a second time (he acted as if he had not been given his breakfast at 7:00 a.m.), it was noon and half the day was gone!

In the afternoon, I started the car and let it run for about 15 minutes, while I brought out two resin chairs that I had stored in the garage and washed them.  M had stood on the other resin chair that I had out, earlier, when he trimmed the passionfruit vine last Friday and it broke.  I placed the two chairs in the area near the passionfruit vine trellis to be used as patio chairs.  I need to find a small table to use as a patio table (my patio table broke several years ago and I didn't replace it).

Fruit Salad for Brunch

Afterwards, I made a fresh fruit salad for brunch, using the last banana, half an apple, some mango, the pulp from a passionfruit, and some almonds.

Then, I spent the rest of the afternoon playing with fabric.  While I did that, I watched some online videos and the evening news.

I had a corned beef sandwich around 5:00 p.m. and drank a cup of tea.

Later, at 7:00 p.m., after I had finished watching the evening news, I put water to the garden, both front and back.  I saw where Mama Cat was hiding, near the side wall, among the succulents growing there.  She didn't seem hurt and came out to drink some water, but, didn't seem interested in eating.  Oh, well, the bowl of food is there for her if she decides to eat, later.

It was 8:00 p.m. when I finished watering and went inside.  I warmed up some of the leftover spaghetti and sauce for my dinner, chatted with friend R who called, and watched a few more online videos.  Then, video chatted with my daughter and exchanged emails with a friend.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The car started without any problems!
- Water for the garden
- The handful for ripe chilies I harvested from the garden
- Fans, electricity, working appliances
- Phone calls, emails, blogs, and video chats

Today's joyful activity was playing with fabric!

Today's high was 96F with 19% humidity.  Now, at almost 2:30 a.m., it is 75F with 50% humidity.  In the meantime, 75F was the high in Berkeley.

No big plans for tomorrow.  If it is cool enough in the morning when I wake up, I will vacuum the house.  If not, I will relax and maybe do some sewing.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. My cats love to sleep in clothes baskets, especially if they have dirty clothes in them. I see Dancer doesn't need any clothes. :)

    1. It's one of the baskets in which I had kept fabric scraps. I dumped out the fabric and he decided to take a nap in it! LOL.

  2. Mama cat may still be missing Snowball. When psycho cat passed, we thought we would lose evil cat as well as she moped so much and needed so much coaxing to get back to her normal self. And Dancer is correct - if you go back to bed, the first food doesn't count lol!

    1. Mama Cat is old and blind in one eye; I think she finds the succulents bed by the wall to be a perfect spot in which to hide. She might also find it relatively cool there. She came out of her hiding place this morning, when I filled her bowls with fresh food and water. Hopefully, she ate and drank something.
I love the names by which you refer to your cats! LOL.
I ignored Dancer when he tried to wake me up for an early breakfast and he bit me! I chased him off my bed and refused to give into his demands and slept a bit longer! He received one breakfast today. He's sleeping it off, right now, but, he'll be demanding his tea from about 3:30 p.m. (he has to wait until at least 5:00 p.m. for his tea).

  3. The fruit salad looks very appealing. Do you make a syrup or just use the juices from the fruit?

It sounds like you're back to late night/early morning bedtime, depending on how you look at it. Is it the heat that keep you awake so late?

It's registering 33°c outside according to my neighbour so I am relaxing indoors where it is much cooler, though not cool enough. If this is going to be our summer temperatures in the future I think I will be investing in a small air conditioning unit - it definitely doesn't help that our housing is designed to keep the heat in!

    1. Thank you, Eileen; it's just the juices from the fruit (mostly the passionfruit juice).
I don't think it is the heat; even if I go to bed early, I don't always fall asleep right away. Some of the medications I take lists insomnia as a side effect, so that might have an impact, too. My doctor told me what I could take to counteract that, but, I don't want to take any more pills!
33C is too hot! That's 91F, isn't it? Stay indoors and keep cool with a fan! A small a/c unit might be a good investment - they do say that we will be experiencing these warmer summers more and more frequently.

  4. Poor Mama cat, she doesn't seem happy does she but Dancer has made himself comfortable in the basket. Your fruit salad looks very refreshing, just the job in the heat. This weekend is very warm here so I am just relaxing with two electric fans on.

    1. I think Mama Cat is just feeling her age; she is probably around 10 years old now and that's a long time for a feral cat. I refilled her food and water bowls this morning and she came out of her hiding space in the succulents bed, but, didn't approach the bowls while I was outside.
The fruit salad was very refreshing. I had a second serving of it after dinner and there's a little more left for a snack, today. :)
I'm glad you have two fans to keep you cool, Eileen; stay hydrated and take it easy.

  5. Ha ha. I like Dancer's new bed. :)

Your fruit salad looks yummy. This morning I also made one for breakfast, with papaya and passion fruit. I like anything with passion fruits. :)

    1. Dancer loves his baskets! :D
Thank you, Nil; fruit salads are good in this heat! One made with papaya and passion fruit sounds great! I planted a passion fruit vine, last year and it gave me 9 fruits, this year! I'm savoring them, one at a time! :D

  6. Dancer doesn't look at all comfortable so I guess he is just exercising his right to adopt any location he fancies. I hope Mama cat is going to be okay. I'm glad you made up enough sleep, but it is a nuisance to find that the morning is nearly over. We are often late getting up.
The fine weather continues. We have a mystery visitor that is digging out the sand under the side steps. Chipmunks don't usually leave a mess when they go under steps and paths and squirrels don't burrow. I hope it isn't a skunk. No odours so far!

    1. Dancer made himself more comfortable after he figured out the proportions of the basket. He first tried to fit himself sideways and realized that didn't quite work! LOL.
I think Mama Cat is just getting to that stage of life when she's ready to move on. She's been around for about 10 years, now, which is a long time for a feral cat. She came out of her hiding place when I put out fresh food and water for her, but, didn't come over to eat or drink while I was outside. She might have done so after I went inside, again.
I'm glad you are continuing to enjoy some fine weather. It's 97F, here, today, which really isn't too bad for our summer. We haven't had many 100F+ days so far. Oh, I wonder if you have a gopher or a groundhog!

  7. It seems like you had a nice day Friday. I'm sure that low humidity with your morning temperature makes the heat more tolerable. Although I guess that dry air is not good for the fires that occur.

I'm still embroidering on my pillowcase. I did finish the combination fabric/embroidery bird I was working on (freehand embroidery on a plain linen table scarf I had in the closet) and I'm pleased with how it came out. I really enjoyed making the bird and will continue on embroidering other things on the scarf.
I just used little scraps of material - and since that's pretty much all I have - it's a perfect craft for me.
I got rid of all material of any length when I decluttered knowing I wouldn't use it.
But I kept a couple small scrap bags because they always come in handy :)
Currently I'm using some little scraps to patch my patches on my favorite pair of hang-around-the-house pants. And since that's all I do, they get worn a lot lol

I wonder if Mama Cat will perk back up. I hope so.

    1. Friday was a good day and today is turning out to be an equally relaxed and pleasant day. Our high today was supposed to be 97F and that's what we were earlier in the afternoon, but, now, we are up to 99F when I checked. Low humidity, though, so it helps. I'm plopped right in front of the stand fan! :D

Your embroidery projects sound fun and beautiful! I hope you will share a photo with me when you are done. You were wise to keep a bag of two of small pieces of fabric; they come in handy for small craft projects or for putting patches on worn clothes!
I think Mama Cat is feeling her age. She came out of her hiding space when I put out fresh food and water, but, I don't know if she ate anything, because she didn't approach the bowls while I was still outside. Time will tell.

  9. It is funny how cats can find the strangest places comfortable to sleep in/on. I discovered Mog in an empty cardboard box the other day. Xx

    1. Yes; Dancer enjoyed being in an empty cardboard box a bit earlier, but now, it's all about the basket! :D
