Cloudy Saturday

Crocosmia

The first crocosmia flower stalk.

We had a cloudy, overcast day, today.  It wasn't all that cold, but, it felt colder because it was so gloomy.  No rain, though.  I woke up fairly early, turned off the porch lights, fed the cats, and went back to sleep! It was no less gloomy when I woke up the second time, but, it was midmorning by then and time to get up.

I had a relatively quiet day, today.  I practiced the piano for 30 minutes, replied to blog comments, read and commented on a few blogs, ran the dishwasher, and played word games!  We had leftovers for meals.  Daughter baked a batch of applesauce brownies to take to friend A's tomorrow, substituting applesauce for oil because A is on an oil-free/fat free diet for health reasons.  I will also take her some fresh oranges from the tree as well as a bag of lemons.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A working heater/furnace
- Daughter baking the brownies
- Daughter cleaning the litter box for me
- Leftovers
- A quiet, relaxed day

Today's joyful activity was playing word games!

Plans for tomorrow include a visit to see friend A.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Lovely Saturday walking by the sea with my family. Granddaughter had overnight sleepover. Very very windy here!

  2. That crocosmia flower stalk is pretty and interesting. It's still gloomy here too but very cold, at least it is for Florida. We were under freeze warnings last night! Have a nice Sunday Bless.

    1. Hope it warms up for you, soon! I'm having a quiet Sunday, since the plan to visit my friend didn't quite work out.

  3. Sounds like you had a relaxing day. This gloomy weather makes me not want to do much either. It's been very windy here the last couple of days, I can't complain though as it's not been as bad as they forecast, other parts of the UK have had really bad storms.

    1. It was a very relaxing day, yesterday. Which was fine as there was very little that I absolutely had to do (not that there isn't stuff to do around the house, but, nothing that couldn't keep for a day or two). I'm glad you are not having any bad storms where you are. Stay warm and dry, Eileen. Hope Tilly is doing well - when is she having her stitches taken out?

    2. Tilly's had her stitches out and is fine so I've no excuse to not get my housework done now :)

    3. Glad to hear that Tilly's stitches are out. I can help you come up with a few new excuses for not doing housework, if you'd like! :D

  4. Crocosmia is a new plant for me. How long do they bloom? Of course, you would probably get a longer blooming season than I would.

    1. Mine tend to bloom from the end of January/beginning of February, until the end of March. By April, they have usually finished flowering and the seeds have set. They might start flowering around March or April where you are and perhaps finish by May or June?

    2. I'd share some bulbs with you, if you lived closer.

  5. Have you played Wordle yet? It seems to be the latest craze but I haven't played it yet.

I've been dealing with enquiries about items I've advertised for sale and also spent about half an hour clearing in the garage ... I was looking for something and cleared a couple of bags of things for disposal at the recycling yard while I was at it. Mostly, I've been playing the piano 😊

    1. Yes! One of my blog friends (Bushlady) recommended it to me, recently, and my daughter and I have been playing it! The hardest part for me is coming up with the initial word. :)

Sounds like you have been busy! Every time I go to the garage, I look around in despair and promise myself I will clean it up, one day! Well done on the piano playing! C is going to be so pleased on Wednesday! She's sure to give you a whole sheet of stickers! :D

  6. That's an interesting flower. Cloudy days do feel colder, but they make the sunny ones all the more welcome. It's great that substitutions can be made for health reasons and I'm sure friend A will really enjoy her "legal" brownies.
Sunny here and the temperature came up nicely by noon. We were up late and I started a batch of soup which I transferred to the crockpot. We had some for a late lunch with cheese and herb scones (supermarket) from the freezer, and cheese.

    1. That is true about the cloudy days making the sunny days more welcome. It's a lovely sunny day, today! :)
Unfortunately, A called this morning to say that she was going to the hospital for an evaluation, so, we postponed the visit for another day. I will share the brownies with friends and neighbors, instead.
Great minds think alike! I, too, made a pot of soup, today! Turkey, ham, and vegetables! Ooh, scones sounds good! Stay warm and safe, Bushlady.

    1. It did make a very moist brownie, with almost a cake-like texture. I thought it turned out well, my daughter was not too pleased with it! Too sweet, she said, not chocolaty enough! :D
Hope you have a good day, today, Diana; try to get some rest!

  9. You sound very happy and balanced. I knitted more of the second sleeve of my wool sweater today. It was sunny here today, so the dogs and I enjoyed a bike ride outside. The older I get, the more I appreciate the sun.

  10. Applesauce is a good substitution in baked goods.
I made some brownies yesterday. With raisins and nuts.
    No applesauce.

    1. It made a very moist brownie, which was more cake like; my daughter was not sure about the texture, but, I liked it. :) I haven't added raisins in brownies, but, I like to add nuts. I used to make something called blonde brownies, without chocolate, when I was at college and didn't have cocoa powder; that was pretty good, too. :)
