Wednesday

Another quiet day.  Lately, my energy levels have been low, so, I've been taking it easy.  Today, I watched the news, started knitting another hat (with yarn from daughter's stash), practiced the piano, did a load of dishes, and roasted the piece of beef I bought on Monday.  Aunt C had planned to drop off gifts, today, but, she called me mid-morning to say her daughter was not free to make the drive and they will stop by tomorrow, instead.  Later, I chatted with friend R for a bit.

Breakfast was a banana.  Lunch was a burrito.  At tea time, I had a croissant sandwiched with tuna salad and lettuce.

Moo Goo Gai Pan (Chicken Stir Fry)

Daughter prepared Moo Goo Gai Pan, which is a stir fry with chicken, mushrooms, and vegetables (in this instance, onions, Savoy cabbage, and green beans) for our dinner.  It tasted delicious!  The girl can cook!  We had strawberries for dessert.  There might have been a little ice cream and a chocolate, as well!  LOL.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Quiet, relaxed days

- Daughter sharing her yarn stash with me

- Working appliances

- Daughter making us a delicious dinner

- Fresh strawberries in winter

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

Plans for tomorrow include watering the back garden.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. For some reason, your daughter having a stash of yarn made me smile ... you've brought her up well!

I make that chicken dish but didn't know it had a proper name. A friend showed me how to make it years ago.

    1. Ha, ha, yes, she has her own stash of crafts supplies! Yarn for her crochet (she does amigurumi), fabric for her cos-play costumes, embroidery thread for her cross-stitching, polymer clay, paint, etc. I've been told to help myself to any of it. :)

Apparently, the name of the dish means button mushroom chicken slices. She followed a recipe she found online.

  2. Your daughter must have gotten some of her good cooking skills from you and I'm sure you appreciate that there is someone else around to help with the cooking.

    1. Well, I taught her to cook curries, but she taught herself the rest of it. She hasn't eaten out (take out/deliveries) since the first lockdown in March and has learned how to make her favorite dishes! I love the fact that she is helping with the cooking. :)

    1. It tasted really good and I am enjoying the fact that I get to eat her cooking. She'll be here at least till the first week in March; at least, that's the plan.

  6. Your days do sound very relaxed and contented. You sound surprised that your daughter is a good cook! One reason could be that she had a good teacher, you!💖

    1. Thank you, Susan. Often, she will cook something, but, I don't like the ingredients or the taste. For instance, I don't normally like the taste of mushrooms, but, this time, I liked how they tasted in this particular dish. :)

  7. Sometimes a quiet day is the best sort of day. My two daughters and son, all adults, are amazing cooks. I absolutely love it when any of them prepares food for me.

  9. Moo Goo Gai Pan has often been a favourite of mine at Chinese restaurants. I never thought to try to make it at home. Your daughter is such an accomplished cook.
Our son turned out to be quite an excellent cook and he takes a lot of trouble. It always surprises me that he still likes Mom's cooking!

    1. It's nice to know that even when they are good cooks, themselves, they have a fondness for Mom's cooking, isn't it? :) According to my daughter, no one makes chicken curry like I do and no one makes the sauteed salmon the way I do. :D
