Sunny Tuesday

It was a sunny day, today, but, chilly!  It was 41F when I woke up in the morning and our daytime high today was only in the mid-50s.  Tonight's low is supposed to be 38F and there is snow in the higher elevations.  But, I enjoyed the sunny day and walked up and down the driveway for 15 minutes, brought the trash cans in after the trash and recycling were collected, and walked around the garden for a bit, too.  The aloe plants in the front yard are flowering:

I hadn't planned to scrub the stove top, today, but, this happened when I went to cook my brunch:

Runny Eggs, Anyone?

I cracked the egg on the side of the frying pan and, somehow, missed the frying pan, altogether!  I've always maintained that I'm a messy cook, but, this was a bit ridiculous!  Most of the egg was contained in the black liner tray, but, a little of it got under the tray, too.  A paste of baking soda and water left on for about 20 minutes or so and a scrub with a scrubby sponge and the stove top was clean:

The black liner trays were scrubbed, too, and put back in place.  I was laughing at myself, because, the whole reason why I cracked the egg on the side of the pan instead of into a bowl, first, was because I didn't want to dirty a dish that would then have to be washed!  Instead, I had to wash the whole stove top!  The oven could do with a good cleaning, too, but, that's for another day!

In the afternoon, I practiced the piano, but, I didn't have a piano lesson, today.  Neighbor S called me (she's my piano teacher) and said she won't be able to teach today because it is her older daughter N's birthday and they were having a family dinner to celebrate, but, she will try to reschedule me for another evening, this week.  Actually, my daughter and I were already aware that it was N's birthday.  S asked me if I was planning to go anywhere this evening and I said no; she asked if they could park their cars in my driveway so that their family, who would be coming to dinner, could park in their driveway.  Of course I said yes, they may park their cars in my driveway.  It's really hard to find street parking on our road because a lot of people park their cars there.

In the evening, daughter took over the gifts we had ordered for N for her birthday.  A few minutes later, daughter came back with N bringing us a feast!

Dinner, Dessert, and Breakfast!

S had sent us rice, lula kebabs, baked potato halves, salad, cheese-filled pastries, birthday cake, and doughnuts!  Yum!  My daughter enjoyed the kebabs and I really enjoyed one of the cheese pastries.

Today, I picked up a crochet project I had started on, a long time ago.  I had been making granny squares with yarn leftover from other projects, over the years.  I've made over 100 granny squares and I think I have enough for a small blanket.  I raided my daughter's yarn stash to get a skein of grey yarn and started to crochet the squares together.   I put together one strip of ten granny squares, today.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A sunny day

- S sending us a portion of N's birthday dinner

- Having a garden in which to walk

- Having a stove to clean

- Deliveries being made on time

Today's joyful activity was crocheting.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cloudy with rain in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.  Plans for tomorrow include more crocheting and cleaning the top of my dresser, which I haven't done, yet.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. Wow that was nice to send all that food to you! I tried to learn to crochet but it went nowhere lol. It is very cold here this morning - just 16F/-9C. I am certainly going to bundle up for my walk this morning. Brrr....

    1. It was really nice of them to send us food, wasn't it? I learned to knit and crochet at about the same time, but, I much prefer knitting to crochet! I can't do much more than granny squares, when it comes to crochet!

  2. You and your daughter don't have to worry that you are missing out on going to a restaurant because the restaurants come to you by way of your neighbors. :)

  3. You made me laugh about missing the pan completely. What a mess, but now you have a nice clean stove. Sounds like it was a good day overall and the stuff S sent over looks delicious!

  4. I think you and I had a similar stove top issue yesterday, except mine was not eggs. I need one of those stovetop covers!
I would have enjoyed the pastry also!

    1. The stove came with those liner trays in place and they get the brunt of the spilled items! After nearly 27 years of use, even putting them in the dish washer doesn't get the burned on stuff off of them! The pastry was delicious!

  5. I spy a Krispy Kreme box! Oh My Goodness I am a sucker for those donuts.

Kitchen accidents - what a pain but look at your nice shiny stove top.
And you did some other kitchen cleaning the other day too. I know the stove top clean was unscheduled but I was wondering if this is your month to deep clean the kitchen area?
I know you rotate your focus each month in addition to your regular cleaning.

    1. Ha, ha, you did spy a Krispy Kreme box! :D

Actually, this month's room is the family room, but, I got most of it done when the tree was taken down and holiday decorations were put away. There are two huge cardboard boxes in the family room, waiting to be broken down (received a shipment of three 30 lb. bags of cat food) and the inside of the window and sliding glass door could do with a cleaning, but, otherwise, the room is OK. :) I think February's room will be my bedroom and closet.

  6. You did an amazing job on your stove! That food looks delicious. Granny squares are one of my favorite patterns for crocheted blankets. I still have one I made for my mom forty years ago. It's in excellent condition.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. We enjoyed the food - always nice to eat something different from what we normally cook, ourselves. The blanket you made for your mom sounds very special. I'm sure she loved it.

  7. Well, that was a nicely done mess! I was taking the milk jug out of the fridge the other day and somehow it slipped out of my hand and ended up spinning on the floor! I grabbed it up fast and it didn't lose much at all from the nearly full bag in the plastic jug, but what it did lose seemed to manage to be well spread around!

    1. Oh, no! Stuff like milk spreads all over, doesn't it? Glad you were able to save most of it, though!

  8. Well, in the end it was a job well jobbed, even if not planned. I often find getting a task like that done is less stressful than trying to ignore it for ages!
I like the flower of the aloe vera - don't think I have ever seen one before.
And oh how lovely to live in a neighbourhood where everyone is kind and shares such delicious-looking treats!

    1. I am the queen of procrastination, but, egg on the stove can't be postponed!

I think the aloe I have in the garden might be Aloe arborescens - I was given the plants by my gardener M a few years ago and they are starting to establish themselves.

Yes, I am blessed with some lovely neighbors. There are some neighbors who are a bit inconsiderate who play very loud music and block my driveway with their cars, but, the nice neighbors more than make up for the not so nice ones. :)
