Glued to the TV on Wednesday

I spent the majority of the day glued to the TV!  I had turned it on at 10:00 a.m., hoping to watch the coverage of the certification of the electoral college vote and watched what unfolded, in the hours that followed, until it was time to go to my dental appointment in the evening.

I was fitted with my partial denture, today, and told to wear it for a week and come back if there are any sore spots to be filed down.  I don't feel any sore spots, yet, but, it will take a little getting used to, I think, and right now, I am having some trouble pronouncing some words!  I had a cup of noodle soup for dinner, because I didn't want to try chewing on anything, right away.

I started the process of taking down the Christmas decorations, this evening.  Somehow, it usually takes me twice as long to take down and put away than it does to put up the decorations!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Access to TV coverage of the news

- Being an eyewitness to history in the making

- Dental insurance

- The car started without any problems

- My new partial denture

Today's joyful activity was knitting (picked up stitches and started on the neckband of my sweater).

Plans for tomorrow include going for my repeat mammogram.

How was your day?

  1. I had a relaxed day, doing mending and sorting out card making supplies. Then we watched the events at the Capitol on TV with horror and disbelief. Later in the evening, 8pm, Bob dropped me off at the supermarket while he delivered 3parcels. I found the shop very quiet - few customers and lots of empty shelves. No citrus fruit or fresh carrots, very little milk - and they were all things I wanted. I think there has been some panic buying, because of the new lockdown rules

    1. What was being shown on TV was a bit surreal, wasn't it? Sorry the shop shelves were bare; I hope you will be able to get the grocery items you wanted, in the next day or two.

  2. I spent the morning with my granddaughters and the afternoon glued to the news (trying to keep the girls out of the tv room). How do we protect the children? (That's my big question of the day) xoxo

    1. I don't know how one protects the children from all what's going on, Miss Kim, but, minimizing their exposure to the more extreme things is a good start.

  3. I found the news difficult to get away yesterday from because it's also local news here. It was all very upsetting. One because of the unnecessary violence and two because of the way the news is reported. It seems as if it's hard to get just the facts without some kind of editorial comment proceeding or following a statement. So I turned off the TV and the computer and am waiting for today to hopefully find a summary.

    1. Yes, the way the news is reported does play a big part in it, doesn't it? I tend to switch between news channels to get a range of perspectives, but, you are right - very little facts only type of news reporting.

  4. I was glued to the news all day too. I hope your partial is nice and comfortable and that you don't have to go back and forth getting it right.

    1. Thank you, Martha; the partial takes some getting used to! I'm not sure if I like it or not!

  5. I hope your dental work doesn't cause any sore spots, and sending positive vibes for your repeated mammogram today.

I've spent today carrying on with all the paperwork. It's turning into a massive job as I am clearing out a load of old stuff that I really have no need to keep but it'll be so much easier to keep organised once I have finished. Hopefully!

    1. Thank you, Eileen. The partial denture doesn't hurt, but, I need to get used to wearing it. The mammogram went well and they did an ultrasound, too. I should find out the results, later this month, when I have my appointment with the oncologist.

Sounds like you have been very productive! I, too, need to better organize my paperwork and create new files for the new year.

  6. Good for you! I have a sweater on the needles that I need to start the sleeves on, too. Like you, I got the Christmas decorations put away; today I am trimming my locust tree with my small electric saw. There is always housework to do, but I love having a small home.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. You are another person who is keeping herself busy and productive! I gave my daughter one of the sweaters I knitted for myself, because it seems to fit her better! :)

  7. I was doing the same - with the tv on all day.
    Terrible images from our capital.

  8. I was busy preparing class material until a friend texted me and asked to turn on the TV around 3 pm. Then I was glued to tv too! I think I missed the crazy parts. :)

    1. It was surreal, Nil. I was watching the proceedings going on inside the building when they broke off to show what was going on outside! It was very chaotic!

  9. I too have been baulking at taking down the decs. I did force myself to remove everything by midnight last night but it's just taken ages to put it all away and clean up!

I'm really sorry about what has been happening in your country. It's truly frightening to consider the context and implications. Very sad, and worrying.

    1. I haven't made any further progress with taking down the decorations! It seems to take longer to take down and put away than to decorate!

As for what happened in the country, yesterday, it was very sobering, I think. I felt very sad. I hope, though, that it brings about some good, after all.
