Productive Monday & July Grocery Shopping Week 3

Today, I woke up at 9:00 a.m. when the alarm went off, but I stayed in bed for another 30 minutes, or so.  Then, I had a cup of coffee, responded to blog comments, put away the washed dishes from yesterday, and ran a couple of errands.

I went to the pharmacy, first, to pick up my medication refill.  I had a $5 Extra Care Bucks coupon, so I used that towards the purchase of some black knee highs and a box of corn flakes ($1.99; free after coupon).  Then, I went to the dollar store, that is next to the pharmacy, to buy some bananas ($.49/lb. = $.42), a packet of cookies ($1.00), and two boxes of cake mix (@$1.00):

July 16 Groceries
My grocery total came to $3.42.

July Grocery Budget = $100 - $3.78 over-spent in June = $96.22
Spent to date = $27.21 + $6.49 + $3.42  = $37.12
Balance left in July grocery budget = $96.22 - $37.12 = $59.10

I also bought two air fresheners from the dollar store.

After I came home, I had a banana and a cold cuts sandwich for brunch.  Then, I sat down to continue sewing my sari blouse.  Today, I added the sleeves and sewed the neckline.  Then, I tried a short-cut and sewed the bottom hem by folding the fabric as one would a regular hem, but that didn't work out, so I had to unpick it.  Tomorrow, I will cut out a bias binding and sew it down to make the hem.

Later in the evening, I watered the front garden and took the large trash cans to the curb for pick up, tomorrow morning.  Dinner was rice, with okra cooked with ground beef, lentil curry, and pappadum.  After dinner, I video chatted with my daughter.

I will water the indoor plants and clean the litter box before I go to bed.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to get yet another drama-free refill!
- Getting some shopping done
- Coupons
- A cooler day
- Making progress with my sewing

How was your Monday?  Did you have a good day?

  1. It's cooler here and we actually had a tiny bit of rain this morning. Not enough to satisfy the gardens but at least it damped down all the dust. There's also a lovely cooling breeze.

I managed to get loads done on Monday and will do a bit this morning but am off to a memorial service this afternoon. It's about two hours away but friends are giving me a lift - the service starts at 4:30pm, so we have plenty of time to get there. It'll be a late night getting home though.

  2. I'm glad you had the day off today to get so much accomplished. It was wonderful that you were able to help out yesterday with the cake wrapping. You are such a great friend. That was a huge job done. But I know you had plans of your own for this past weekend; not just the usual housework, but also getting you sari blouse finished for the wedding. I am sure everything will get accomplished to your satisfaction.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Yes, I had plans for the weekend, but, going to help with the cake was fine. The sari blouse will get done before next Saturday, which is when I need it. :)

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. The blouse is almost done - only to sew the hooks to fasten it.

  4. Monday was spent catching up on grocery shopping since we had been away, also changing the bed and washing the linen because I had been too busy to do it the day before we left. I decided to wash the bulky mattress pad and I always lament having an agitator in the washer taking up so much room. Then I remind myself that some people don't have washers. This morning and afternoon the washer earned its keep as I did 3 loads of laundry, mostly from our trip, and it was a perfect drying day, so that I was able to take in the first 2 loads from the washing line in the afternoon, and hang up the 3rd load, which was all dry by suppertime. Very satisfying!

    1. Sounds like you had a busy day, Bushlady. Having a washer at home is a blessing - much better than having to take everything to a laundromat or down to the river! :D
