Warm, as in 90F! It was already quite warm when I woke up in the morning. So, although I had watered the seedlings and a few other plants by hand, yesterday, I turned on the sprinklers and watered the back garden, in the morning.
One of my aunts called me in the morning and we had an hour-long conversation! Aunt had much to say and I was a willing listener. She wanted to visit me in the evening, but I wasn't going to be free in the evening, so she said maybe she'll visit me tomorrow evening, instead, if her daughter is free to bring her.
Later in the morning, I gave a ride to a friend who wanted to get some packing boxes from a moving truck rental company. On the way back, we stopped at a grocery store as I needed to buy a dessert to take to the prayer gathering, later in the evening. I had been wanting to make a dump cake, but I didn't feel like baking when it was so hot. So, I bought a box of 40 assorted mini cream puffs and eclairs and I bought a flan. I picked up a bag of cat food, too, and a packet of tea as a gift for my friend. I asked my friend if she'd like to go out to lunch or come to my house, but she declined, so I dropped her off at her apartment and went home.
The house had stayed relatively cool, so it felt quite comfortable, after the heat outside. After lunch, I read for a bit and then, took a nap on the sofa! I had a cup of tea after I got up and then, it was time to get dressed to go to the monthly prayer gathering.
One of my cousins was hosting it for the first time and I gave another cousin a ride to the prayer gathering and back. This was the first time I went to the monthly prayer gathering since January. I was too sick to attend the February gathering and I hadn't felt up to driving to the March gathering. I am glad I was able to attend this month's gathering. The cousin who was hosting had prepared most of the meal (biriyani rice, chicken curry, lentils, sauted squash, and fresh fruits for dessert) but others also brought a dish or two to contribute to the meal, so there was a beef curry, eggplant, sausages with peppers, and another vegetable curry, as well. Afterwards, my cousin urged me to serve myself a plate of food to bring home, but I chose to bring only a little of the beef curry another cousin had prepared.
I left the prayer gathering around 11:30 p.m. I dropped my cousin off at her house and came home and spent an hour or so video chatting with my daughter.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to help my friend with picking up her boxes
- Being able to attend the prayer gathering
- Being able to help my cousin with a ride to the prayer gathering
- Being able to contribute a couple of desserts to the meal
- Phone call from an aunt
Plans for tomorrow include video chatting with a friend, cleaning the house, and maybe transplanting the vegetable seedlings. Hopefully, it will be a cooler day; otherwise the poor seedlings are going to get baked!
How was your Saturday? What are your plans for Sunday? What is the weather like in your part of the world?
I don't know what your cousin needed her boxes for, but I got all of our moving boxes for our recent move off of freecycle. If she needs any more, she might try that.ReplyDelete
I hope you have a cooler day today. We have had a cool, rainy weekend that is supposed to last until Wednesday.
Thanks, Live and Learn. My friend wanted a particular sized box, to ship some things to her children. Apparently, the shipping is flat rate, based on the size of the box.Delete
It is supposed to be cooler, today, with a high of only 80F. No rain in the forecast for the near future. Our rainy season ended mid April and we probably won't get any measurable rain from now until the fall, although, occasionally, we've had a summer rain or two in previous years (and then, we all go a bit crazy because it is like one of the 7 wonders of the world for us!)
Isn't it a bit early for those 90F days? Agree about no baking when it is that hot. The creme puffs and flan sound very nice and I expect were well received. Happy that you were able to attend the Prayer meeting which I am sure is a very positive experience.ReplyDelete
Our weather has been up and down again. I thought we were done with any cold weather but we have had a couple of days of quite cool/cold temperatures but today it is bright sunshine and will reach the lower 70's, my ideal temperature.
Best wishes for the coming work week.
Yes, it is a bit early for 90F, although not unexpected. It'll be cooler this week, according to the weather forecast, in the 80s. That's really my ideal temperature. I try not to bake when it is hot because I don't have any central air conditioning in my house; don't want to add to the heat. It was a pleasant gathering, yesterday. Always nice to be with family and friends, even if we have our moments with each other! LOL.Delete
Hope you'll continue to have pleasant weather from now on, Sandy, and a good week ahead.
Glad to hear you were able to attend the prayer meeting Bless and that you also felt up to driving this time as well. The food at the gatherings always sounds delicious and plenty of it!ReplyDelete
It's been very sunny here this weekend and we've been able to have the windows and doors open which has been nice. Nowhere near 90F though.
Hope you have a good week and you manage to get the trellis sorted out for the garden. Take care. Xx
Thank you, Suzanne; it was nice being able to go to the prayer gathering, although, today, I'm tired. Glad you are having a sunny weekend and warmer temperatures. I'm sure you are enjoying it. Hope you, too, have a good week ahead. Can you believe that April is almost over, already?Delete
Good that you were able to get to the prayer meeting this time. I love those mini eclairs and cream puffs. I know how to make that choux pastry but never tried. My mother used to make it. We lived in a village and for the village fete she would enter the baking contest for 6 assorted fancy cakes and she won at least once. She made things like butterfly cakes, cream horns, chocolate eclairs, viennese whirls (a light short cake with a dab of jam in the centre of the piped whirl). She would enter a Victoria Sandwich cake and scones and goodness knows what else. One time she got all firsts for her items except for the scones which came 3rd, so we teased her about her "third-rate" scones. Luckily she took it in good part having been so successful with the rest. She really was an excellent baker.ReplyDelete
Oh, your mother sounds like she was an excellent baker! She would have made a natural contestant for the British Bake-Off show! Too funny about her "third-rate" scones, though! I used to make my own cream puffs and eclairs. At one time, I made cakes for an office get together and several of my co-workers would ask me to bake cakes for their birthday parties and so forth. But now, it seems too much work! I have got so lazy!Delete
How nice you were able to attend this month's prayer gathering. Your cousin must have been very appreciative of your supporting her for her first time hosting. It sounds like she did a lot of work preparing.ReplyDelete
She claimed she was more or less strong-armed into hosting it by another cousin, but I think she did well. The rosary group has been shrinking, for one reason or another, and one person has been the default person to host it when no one else can and that's not fair.Delete
Well there you go, you were using the heater not so long ago and now Nature has seen fit to give you 90F days! We're having those here too, it'll be 93F by week's end. But, unlike you, we have the AC running. And running. And running. Our house just doesn't say cool at all without it. Plus we're probably wimps.ReplyDelete
I'm glad you had a good weekend and got to talk to more relatives :) How is your daughter doing these days?
I think you probably feel the heat more because it is humid there. I had to turn on the heater this morning, though, as I felt cold! It is 75F outside, right now at almost 2:00 p.m., 70F inside the house, and I am wearing a cardigan and socks. I just don't tolerate the cold.Delete
Daughter is doing well, thank you. She's over her cold and cough, and hasn't seen any of her unwelcome guests since the exterminator sprayed last. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed. In the meantime, she isn't leaving any dishes to dry in the dish drainer on the counter overnight, not leaving any clean laundry sitting out in the basket overnight (she was folding and putting away the last load of dried laundry at midnight, last night!), and is zealously taking the kitchen trash to the big trash bin in the garage, every night!
