Thursday's Adventures

For some reason, I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday!  I was very disappointed when I realized it was only Thursday and I had to go to work!

I went to the farmer's market during my lunch break and bought a hamburger (from a Mediterranean stall) for my lunch and an almond croissant (from the French bakery stall) for my tea.  I ate half of the hamburger for lunch and ate half of the croissant when I got home.  I took a picture of the croissant for Nathalie since she had commented about the lack of a photo the last time I mentioned buying a croissant:

Almond Croissant from the French Bakery Stall

I went to the dentist's this afternoon and had my stitches removed (there were three stitches).  The dentist checked on me to ask how I was and if I felt a lot of pain after the extraction.  Then, the technician cut the stitches and pulled them out.  Except, he forgot to snip the 2nd stitch before he tugged on it!  Ouch!  That hurt, and I believe I might have bled a bit.  But the extraction site seems to be healing well.  The dentist was getting ready to do the bone graft and I reminded him again that we had agreed I wouldn't get a bone graft or implant!  I made an appointment for the other extraction and possible filling before I left.

I felt fine after the stitches were taken out.  So, I did a little shopping in the dollar store in the the same shopping mall.  I bought kitchen sponges, a pair of rubber gloves, two lint rollers, two hot pads, a packet of C batteries, a jar of roasted peanuts, and a box of cake mix.  I was looking for a butter dish, too, but didn't find one.  Then came home and had a cup of tea.

Then I remembered that the pharmacy had texted a medication refill was ready for pick up.  So, I went to the pharmacy for that and then, went to the dollar store next to the pharmacy for some bananas and a pair of foam insoles for shoes (the other dollar store didn't have them or I didn't see them).  I paid $2.59 for food items.

Amount spent on groceries so far in July = $34.21 + $2.59 = $36.80
Amount left in July grocery budget = $103.82 - $36.80 =  $67.02

I didn't do a lot, again, after I came home.  My sister had called and left a message, so I called her back.  Then, had dinner, watched some TV, and video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The dental visit went well, the extraction site is healing well
- Goodies from the farmer's market
- Prescriptions from the pharmacy
- Safe commutes to the office and back, dentist's and back, etc.
- Phone call from sister, texts from cousin, emails from friends

How was your Thursday?  Do you ever wake up thinking it is the weekend, only to realize it is another work day?

  1. A French croissant picture for me on Bastille Day! You spoil me :) It looks very delicious and I'm salivating. It's funny how we post pictures of food for each other, LOL.

I'm glad your jaw is healing nicely!

I don't have a job outside of the house but yes, I have woken up at times thinking it was a certain day but it was another and then I felt off-kilter all day. It always happens to me when a holiday falls on a Monday. I'm sorry you were disappointed you had to go to work! But you wouldn't have had the lovely croissant if you hadn't so it all balances out, doesn't it? Have a great weekend!

    1. Ha, ha, I was about to eat it when I remembered I had to take a picture of it for you! You are right - I wouldn't have been able to get the croissant if I hadn't gone to the office! Or had the nice French gentleman bow over my hand and call me "Madame"! And his Caribbean assistant call me "Boss"! Now you know why I tend to frequent the French bakery stall! :D

  2. The croissant looks so yummy! And I'm glad to see you're now treating yourself to eating out more frequently. You work hard and deserve to be pampered!

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. I was taking myself to task, yesterday, for eating out, again! But I dropped the container of fish curry when I went to get it out of the fridge, in the morning, and the cover came off; after cleaning the curry gravy off the bottom of the fridge and the floor, I really didn't feel like serving up what remained for my lunch (I had it with lentils and pita bread for my dinner, instead). So, I bought lunch! But I need to be more moderate about eating out, the rest of this month (after I go out with my friend, over the weekend, to celebrate her birthday!)

    1. Almond croissants are definitely my favorites. Chocolate ones are a close second favorite. :)

  4. Excellent progress with your pulled tooth but the technician gets a black mark for not being more careful. I hope you got an apology. That would be unacceptable at the dentist I go to.

Well done for taking care of you at the Farmer's market.

Can't say I ever woke up thinking a week day was a Saturday when I was working but then I am a morning person and at my best. Now you will think this is hilarious but I always take my BP medicine as soon as I get up and I keep a sheet of paper next to the bottles and I write down the day and the date with two (2) check (ticks) marks. This way when on the odd occasion I have not followed my routine and think did I take my Rx I can easily check and it does help with keeping track of the current day and date in my mind. Although like my son says "date is on your phone, computer etc." so true but I do it anyway.

    1. I think it was wishful thinking, Sandy. I think I just wanted to turn over and go back to sleep, and not have to heed the alarm clock!

I, too, sometimes write down the day of the week and my medications when I take them, especially when I have a new medication, like an antibiotic or anti-nausea meds, in addition to the regular meds.

Like you, I am a pen and paper person, not an electronic devise person. I am pretty useless when it comes to using my gadgets, like the cell phone. I was at the grocery store, one day, trying to do mental arithmetic to add up what was in my cart, and my daughter was doubling up with laughter as she told me I have a calculator on my phone! Oh! My excuse was, I had to put on my glasses to be able to read my phone screen and enter the numbers, etc.; rounding off and mentally adding as I went was faster! :D

  5. Oh Bless, I actually winced and my hand shot to my mouth when I read about the stitch not having been snipped. What a stupid thing to do. Not as though there were hundreds of the things either! He's determined to do that bone graft isn't he lol.

Your almond croissant looks delicious. I've just made an apple upside down type of cake for Amy and added some almond essence to the sponge mixture - I love it. xx

    1. Suzanne, it did sting a bit! Today, it bothered me enough to make me take some Tylenol. Next time, I must remember to ask if he remembered to snip all the stitches! Yum, your cake sounds delicious! Almond essence is one of my favorite flavorings.

  6. Oh no! I hate it when my days get muddled. Even more frustrating when you mistakenly think you have a day off work.
The thought of your dentist tugging on the un-snipped stitch makes me feel a bit queasy. I'm just glad for you that it didn't bleed for long. X

    1. I think I got spoilt when I was able to work from home as a matter of course. Even now, they are very good about letting me come in when I feel like it, but I feel guilty to call in and ask to work from home too many times. So, I drag myself off to the office. Once I am there, I am fine; it's the getting myself there that is a problem!

Yes, the tugging of the unsnipped stitch was a bit of a rude shock! I felt a bit of discomfort today, too, but took some Tylenol and it's all better now. :)
