Weekly Grocery Deals
The weekly grocery ads are delivered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in my area, and one of the things I like to do on a Thursday evening is go through the ads to see what's on special this week. I make note of the best deals and then decide what I'll buy. I make my meal plans based on what I buy and what's in the freezer and pantry.
I'm lucky enough to have several grocery stores within a two-mile radius of my house or on my way home from work. But I tend to shop at two or three stores, for the most part. So, I only look at the grocery ads for those stores and ignore the rest.
This week's deals include:
Pork shoulder picnic roast at $.89/lb.
Bacon, 12 oz. pack @ $2.50
Cooking oil, 40 oz. @ $1.99
Potatoes, 10 lb. bag @ $.99
Ataulfo Mangoes, @ $.33
Cantaloupe, @ $.33/lb.
Strawberries, @ $.99/lb.
I will not buy any meat this week, since I still have most of what I bought last week and I have some bacon in the freezer.
I don't need any oil, either, since I have two bottles in my pantry, and that's plenty for me. I am tempted to buy the potatoes; I've come to the end of my current bag of potatoes and the few that are left are starting to sprout!
I will definitely buy some mangoes and probably a cantaloupe. They, with the oranges from my garden, will be my fruit for next week.
I will be keeping an eye out for a bargain on eggs. I am down to the last four eggs in my container of free (with coupon) eggs which I picked up in January. I generally eat 1-2 eggs a week, so those four eggs will last me for another couple of weeks. By which time, eggs should be going on sale.

Roses
| Rose Bud |
When the roses start to bloom, I know that spring is around the corner!
My garden is sadly neglected and needs a lot of tender loving care. We are in the 4th year of drought, with watering restrictions.
I don't have time to garden during the work week, right now, since it is dark when I get home in the evenings. But once we go into daylight savings time, I should be able to spend an hour or so in the garden, weeding, etc. We've been blessed with several rainy days, so far, this year and, as a result, the garden desperately needs a good weeding.
But, in the meantime, the roses continue to bloom:
| Hidden Rose! There's a rose bush in there, some where! |
Anyone else having a garden that is neglected?
Oranges
When I first bought my house, there was an orange tree in the backyard. A few years later, however, when I added the family room, the orange tree was removed. I planted a new, replacement orange tree. I've been picking five or six oranges a week for several weeks and this season's crop is coming to an end.
But there are masses of flowers on the tree! They have the most wonderful fragrance and the bees are loving it. If all goes well, there will be lots more oranges to be enjoyed, later this year!
Oranges picked fresh from the tree in the backyard - such a wonderful treat!
Do you have fruit trees in your garden?

Twenty-Two Years Ago
Twenty-two years ago today, my daughter was born, seven weeks premature, delivered through an emergency C-section, after a high-risk pregnancy.
Daughter has heard me relate the story, over and over again: going for a regularly scheduled trice weekly check up, being told to go to the hospital immediately due to frequency and strength of contractions, driving myself to the hospital, trying to prevent a premature birth and being kept in the hospital for several days for observation, being told I'd be discharged at noon on Monday, being taken for one last monitoring before being discharged, being told I was not going any where except the labor room, spending the rest of the day and night in labor until I was taken in for the C-section on Tuesday morning, the observing student nurse feeling faint during the surgery, and my mother cutting the umbilical cord at the invitation of the surgeon.
Twenty-two years ago today, my mother and I cried tears of joy together at the miracle that was our baby. Twenty-two years ago today, I became a mother and my mother became a grandmother.
Happy birthday, Daughter. You are truly a blessing and a joy.

March Monthly Goals
My goals are
distributed among the various segments of my Balance Wheel, to make sure
that all areas of my life are being worked on at the same time. Here
are my March monthly goals:
Spiritual: Continue with daily devotions/meditations; attend the monthly prayer meeting (scheduled for 3rd weekend in March).
Environment:
- Outside: Continue to spruce up the garden. We are getting some rain, at long last, and the weeds are up, practically overnight! My goal is to weed all the flower beds and put down mulch.
- Inside: Continue to clean and declutter; focus on my bedroom.
Daughter: Will be celebrating her birthday, this month! Looking forward to her coming home for spring break, later this month.
Family: Keep in touch with extended family (phone calls, emails, etc.)
Friends: Get together with friends a couple of times; e-mails & phone calls.
Career: Continue to manage work load efficiently.
Finances: Refine the budget using February's spending log. Keep to the grocery budget of $75, even with daughter being home for a week; plan to eat from freezer.
Health: Work on better nutrition, more exercise and more sleep.
Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies: Finish Works In Progress: finish knitting the white scarf; sew on the hexagon quilt top.
Productivity and Time Management: Continue implementing cleaning routines.
Some of my monthly goals remain the same; others have changed a bit.

February Review
Time to review February, before posting the March goals. February was a quieter month.
Spirituality: Attended the monthly prayer meeting during the 3rd weekend of the month and I continued with daily devotions; I consider this segment to be well plumped.
Daughter: We've video chatted every evening and there have been several "Good Morning" phone calls (usually from me to her to wake her up) and a few "I can't wait to tell you my good news of the day!" calls from her! Another well plumped segment of my life.
Environment: I completed the first round of going through and cleaning the rooms. I implemented weekly cleaning routines with varying success; I did better some weeks than others! Did some weeding in the garden.
Family: Mostly phone calls and social media, but met one aunt at the prayer meeting and had a visit from one cousin.
Friends: Went out to lunch with one friend, met other friends at the prayer meeting; stayed in touch over social media and exchanged phone calls and emails. This segment, too, is well plumped.
Career: Had a good month; the pace slowed down a little bit, which was nice.
Finances: Kept a spending log and I found one or two places where I could tighten up the budget! Will try it out with the March budget.
Health: Did OK. Need to up the exercising and get more sleep!
Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies: I did some sewing on my quilt; did a bit of knitting; and read 2 books (non-fiction) and looked through 4 crafts/organizing books.
Productivity and Time Management: I got most things done in a timely manner. Of course, I still feel I should get more done!
Goals and Achievements: Not much achieved, but met a few mini-goals, so that's OK.
Over all, mostly balanced with one or two rather important areas needing more attention. There's always room for improvement, isn't there?
How was your February? Have you had an opportunity to look over the month and see how things were?
