Starting Fall

Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos Decorations
at the Vets' Clinic

Fall started on Monday, but, we are still experiencing summer with daytime highs in the upper 80s and mid-90s.

On Monday, 15 bags of donations were picked up by the charity I had called.  I actually have more bags of donations, but, 15 are all they will pick up at one time.  I will be calling them in the next day or two to schedule another pick up at their earliest convenience.

I took it easy on Monday as I didn't feel 100%.  Daughter took the trash cans out for me in the evening and I took a 2-hour nap.  Daughter had leftovers for lunch and dinner; I had dry cereal and crackers with lemon-lime soda.  I felt fine on Tuesday morning, though.

I took Dancer to the vets' clinic to get his monthly arthritis injection on Tuesday.  The waiting area had a Day of the Dead altar set up, featuring cats and dogs.

Dancer was not impressed.  He protested when daughter picked him up and held him for me to give him the sedative.  He protested when we put him in the carrier.  He protested during the car ride.  Then, he threw up just as I turned into the parking lot.  I usually put a towel down in the carrier and this time, I put an absorbent water proof "pee pad" on top of the towel too, as added protection.  In addition, I took an extra pee pad with me, which I handed to the technician so she could throw away the soiled one and put the dry one down for the ride home.

The ride home was better and he didn't protest much until I turned into my street.  Then, he protested and, just as I turned into the drive way, he pooped!  Let's just say that Dancer helped me declutter a towel (I put it in the trash).  By the time I had cleaned him up and the carrier, I was pretty much done for the day!

Daughter brought the empty trash cans in, helped me fill out some paperwork, and replaced the broken handle in my toilet with a new handle she ordered for me.  She made us peanut butter toast for brunch.  For dinner, I went off the meal plan and ordered pizza to be delivered.  Later, I browned the ground turkey I had kept to thaw and added curry powder and chili powder, etc., to it.  I will finish making the keema curry on Wednesday.

As I write this blog post, I am grateful for:

- Daughter's help with various tasks
- Vet care for Dancer
- Donations pick up by the charity
- Fans to keep us cool and electricity to run them
- Feeling better

Daily joyful activities have included decluttering, reading, and watching videos online, picking fruits and vegetables from the garden.

Plans for Wednesday include tending to the garden with M, cooking the keema curry, and doing a bit of tidying.

How is your week coming along?

  1. Dancer sounds a lot like Lucky when he had to go to the vet. He was always leaving something in the carrier for us. :)

    1. Poor Lucky. Poor Dancer, too. He really doesn't enjoy these visits to the vet's.

  2. Glad you are feeling better. I'm sorry Dancer had such a rough time to and from the vet. I know you and he both are glad to have that behind you for the month. The week is going good so far here. I'm off to take my mama to a doctor's appointment this morning. Hope you have a good Wednesday!

    1. Thank you, Mandy. Yes, thankfully, Dancer doesn't have to return to the vet's for another month. I'm glad the week is going well for you and I hope your mama's doctor's appointment went well.

  4. The "Dia de los muertos" decor seems a little early, but then we have already some Hallowe'en decorations around here, over a month ahead.

    1. I, too, thought it was a bit early, but, I guess some people like to decorate way ahead of the various occasions.

  5. I do hope you feel better soon!
Poor Dancer. He certainly let his displeasure known.
Well done with all the decluttering! I really need to get back into the swing of things but I'm struggling. Perhaps a few blah days and I'll be back on it!

    1. Thank you, Sharon; I am feeling well, now.
Dancer does not enjoy the visits to the vet's clinic!
Give yourself a few days to enjoy being back at home. Maybe start decluttering starting in October.

  6. Aw, poor Dancer. I'm sorry he has such a hard time going to the vet. I hope the shots make his arthritis not so painful for him. Glad your daughter is there to help you.

    1. He doesn't enjoy these trips, at all, but, we do think the injections help with his arthritis. It's truly a blessing to have daughter home to help me.

    1. Thank you, Linda. I am feeling fine, now. Every now and then, I feel nauseated as a side effect of one of the medications I am taking; it doesn't happen consistently, and I don't know what triggers it, but, when it does happen, I don't feel too good.

  8. Baby Oleg says he is sorry Dancer was unwell, but he whispered that he thinks this behaviour is very silly, and grown-up cats should set a good example to little meerkats. He says the vet is always very kind to all the patients, and helps them to feel better when they are ill, so he doesn't mind going in the car, and he has never dirtied his nappy through fear. Once, he was so excited, he climbed right to the top of the blinds in the clinic. He wanted the veterinary nurse to play chase but the vet got cross because there were other patients waiting, so now he behaves and always gets a nice worm as a treat before leaving. He said that maybe Dancer would get extra treats too, if he didn't make such a fuss?

    1. Please thank Baby Oleg for the sympathies, but I do agree with his assessment that a grown cat is acting rather silly. Sounds like Baby Oleg is setting a very good example to his meerkat friends and cousins. I'm glad he gets a nice worm as a treat to reward his good behavior. :)

  9. Oh my.
What drama going to the vet's is for you. And poor Dancer getting so upset. It doesn't seem like the sedative helped much this time.
I guess you were Done for the Day. I would've been the same.
Having 15 donation bags gone from the house must've felt good.

    1. Going to the vet's is definitely a trial for both Dancer and me! Poor kitty does get so upset! I was definitely done for the day! LOL.
We actually had more bags ready to go, but, they would pick up a maximum of 15 so, we held back the others and scheduled another pick up for October 15. We should have up to 15 bags and boxes ready by then. :)
