I ordered and picked up groceries yesterday (Wednesday). We were out of half and half for daughter's coffee and coming to the end of the milk, garlic powder, and loaf of bread I had bought earlier. In addition, I wanted some chicken (especially since I didn't go to the ethnic store as planned, earlier, for various reasons) and a few items that were on sale.
I bought:
Rewards
Order Summary
Item Details
20 Items
Other Fees
$0.40
I deleted all the itemizations of coupon deductions from the receipt in order to streamline it, a bit. Instead, I decided to color code my receipt.
Dancer's cat food and the tax paid on it are shown in blue.
The grocery items I paid full price for are indicated in pink.
Everything else on the receipt are items purchased because they were on sale/offer with store loyalty card, digital coupons, and/or multi-buy specials (the frozen dinners).
I paid a total of $47.86
Of which, Dancer's cat food and related tax came to: $6.59
Groceries for humans and bag fees = $47.86 - 6.59 = $41.27
My September Grocery Budget = $250.00
Spent to date = $28.49 + $36.06 + $36.45 +$1 + $41.27 = $143.27
Balance left in the September grocery budget = $250 - $143.27 = $106.73
I didn't need a lot of vegetables, other than the cucumber, because I have carrots in the fridge, frozen vegetables, and fresh okra, moringa pods and leaves, and some stunted ears of corn (this year's corn harvest leaves a lot to be desired) from the garden, as well as some butternut squash that are just about ready to be picked.
I didn't need any fruit because I have avocados, mangos, two apples, and a few grapes that were bought earlier, plus Asian pears from the garden.
I will probably shop for more produce next week and depending on when I shop, it will come from this month's grocery budget or October's.
I am very pleased with this month's grocery spending so far. I had wanted to save at least $50 from this month's grocery budget towards stocking up on my next trip to the Sri Lankan grocery store, which might take place tomorrow (Friday).
Did you go grocery shopping this week? Are you finding good deals at your stores? How are you doing with your grocery budget, if you have one?
You're doing well with your September budget. Well done. I am finding it harder to find good bargains. I was really surprised how much cheaper food was (especially vegetables) in England. I'm trying to readjust to prices here. I did find a couple of frozen burger and steak bargains as they were getting rid of them after the end of summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I'm glad you found some bargains on meat. Meat, especially beef, is so expensive these days.
DeleteWhy do I think Dancer is eating better than the rest of us? Is it the "halo of savoury gravy" that sounds so delicious? 😻
ReplyDeleteDancer is definitely being indulged where his food is concerned! Anything to whet his appetite and coax him to eat! They do make it sound delicious, don't they?
DeleteLooks like you have enough money to stock up at the Sri Lankan store and still stay in budget. Good job with your shopping.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. I will definitely stock up on various items when I go to the SL store. I have a list of items, including tea, roasted curry powder, red rice, etc., some of which will be needed for the annual almsgiving and others for the special cake we make at Christmas. I want to buy the items early, before they sell out.
DeleteI am grateful for all garden produce. That helps keep supermarket bills lower.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do, don't they? The only problem is, I have to water my garden to grow the produce and what I pay for the water tends to cancel out any reduction in supermarket bills!
DeleteWell done. I just did some grocery shopping at Vons. I buy many staples at Aldi, because things like coffee, milk, crackers, and gelato are cheaper. Great that you are growing so much of your own produce!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. I must give Aldi a try; there is one about 5 miles away. :)
DeleteYou should be very pleased that at this point in September you still had over $100 left in your budget.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing a great job with the adjustment you made to feeding two especially with the crazy prices out there.
Thank you, Debra; I did feel very happy with having $100 left in the budget at that point and then, I spent it all (and more!) at the Sri Lankan store! But, it was worth it to me. :)
DeleteOh good - I need to read on and see what you bought. I'm sure you got some good deals
DeleteSorry, I didn't post in detail about what I purchased at the SL store. I was very happy with what I bought, but, it is the one store where I just buy what I want without looking at the prices, because I know that it's about the only place I can buy those items, over here. :)
