Thursday's Blessings

Dolma (Stuffed Vegetables) and Assorted Cookies and Chocolates
Compliments of Neighbor S

We had a sunny day with a high of 63F, but, there is a frost warning in effect for tonight.

I went to my doctor's appointment in the morning.  The visit went well, for the most part, which was a blessing, but, there will be follow-up bloodwork and a scan.  I have a follow-up appointment in three months' time, too.

I had a pleasant drive to the doctor's office and back and the car got a bit of a run to charge its battery!  The weekly or so drive to the grocery store and back or to friend R's and back don't really do much as they are short drives.

I made scrambled eggs on toast for brunch for myself after I got back from my appointment; daughter opted for the last frozen burrito, instead.

I had a bit of a headache after I returned from the doctor's visit (tension headache, I suspect, as I was a bit anxious about the appointment) or caffeine withdrawal since I didn't have my usual cup of tea in the morning before I left, choosing to drink a cup of hot water, instead.  Or, maybe it was a sugar withdrawal!  Anyway, I walked in the garden for a bit to get some fresh air and sunshine; then, took it easy for the rest of the day!

I called neighbor T to check on her and she said she's doing OK, other than some pain from the bruises.  Called friend A, too, and left a message.  Later, chatted with friend R.

I had planned to make a turkey-noodle casserole for dinner, but, changed my mind and decided to make turkey fried rice, instead, because there were a few things in the fridge that needed to be used up!  So, I diced the remaining part of the turkey breast, added it to leftover rice, tossed in the leftover onions and bell peppers from the salmon I had cooked last Sunday, some of the broccoli I had picked from the garden, some frozen corn, and a scrambled egg to make fried rice!  Topped it with a handful of roasted peanuts:

Turkey Fried Rice

While I was dicing the turkey and cutting up the broccoli, neighbor S called to ask if we would like to have some dolma she had made as well as some gata (Armenian cookies) that she had been given.  Of course I said, "Yes, please!" and she brought over a plate of dolma and a plate of cookies and chocolates!  Oh, my!  I gave her a small sandwich bag of freshly picked snow pea pods from the garden in return.  Daughter and I had some of the dolma with our fried rice and afterwards, enjoyed some of the cookies for dessert!

Today, I am grateful for:
- A safe drive to and from the doctor's office
- Access to health care
- Medical insurance
- Neighbor S sharing more delicious food with us
- The garden and what I am able to harvest from it

Today's joyful activity was enjoying the treats that neighbor S brought over!

Plans for tomorrow include
- Vacuuming the house
- Taking some of the gardening items from the garage to the shed
- Tidying and cleaning the kitchen
- M tending to the garden in the evening

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. I've been watching on the news about the cold weather you are getting. You usually don't get below freezing, do you? It was unusual to go below freezing when we lived in New Orleans, but it did happen.

    1. No, we rarely go below freezing, but, about 11 years ago, it snowed in the adjoining city! We are under a frost warning and that happens every so often. I've lost a few plants in previous years when that has happened. So far, my plants seem to be OK, this year. :)

  2. Well, I should know by now not to read your blog before I have had breakfast. Everything always looks so yummy in your photos. Glad your doctor's appointment went well, and hope the further bloodwork is okay. In any case, it is always good to have more info, isn't it.

    1. Oops! Sorry! Maybe I should have a warning label on the blog that the post might contain food pictures! :D Thank you, Susanne; yes, it is always good to have more info, so we can, hopefully, make better decisions! :)

  4. I'm glad your doctor visit went well even though you will be having follow up appointments. Weren't you expecting the follow up appointments?

S is keeping you well fed and your turkey fried rice looks so tasty. I had almost the same today for my lunch, but used up the last of the chicken instead of using turkey. Stir fries are one of my go to recipes for using up leftovers and the last bits of veg.

I've had a busyish day at home, playing catch up after my lazy day yesterday!

    1. Thank you, Eileen; yes, I was expecting the follow-up visits, although, I was hoping I wouldn't need to! :D Still, a thorough check up is probably a good thing.

S is definitely keeping us well fed! :D Ha, ha, great minds thinking alike, when it comes to fried rice! Fried rice and soups are two of my favorite ways to use up bits and pieces that are left in the fridge! There is a small container with the last of the pork pot roast that I am planning to turn into a serving or two of soup, tonight! :)

Well, if you were busy, today, then, you might be able to take it easy and play on the weekend! :)

  5. I am glad that your doctor's appointment went well. I think when you don't get out far, due to the pandemic, these "normal" events take on more thought about getting there and getting the news. Most of us just don't go far unless we have to. It's good that your car got a decent run. I hope you don't get a frost. We'll keep it up here where it belongs!
DH and I went to town, to our separate coffee sessions. We go in the car together whenever possible, and keep our small pickup in the garage in winter, to avoid road salt damage.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, these days, any trip becomes a major expedition! :D M said it was 37F at his place when he went outside this morning. I am hoping I don't get any frost damage to my fruit trees.
That's nice that you and DH get to share the ride to and from your coffee sessions. I love how you don't let a little snow and cold get in the way of meeting friends, etc. I'd be hibernating all winter long! :D
