Thursday's Doings

The Bed of Garden Greens (Purple Mustard, Mizuna, Chard, Beets, etc.)

It was a sunny and warm day, today; a bit windy, but, the wind died down later on.  I picked more peapods in the morning, took the kitchen scraps to the compost bin, watered the blueberry bushes, etc., and took a peek inside the garden shed.  M has actually managed to put all the rest of the cans and bottles in the recycling bin!  Still remaining inside are bits and pieces of gardening equipment and a lot of dirt!

We didn't receive the modem we were told we'd get, but, when my daughter called to check on it, the automated checking system stated that the order has been completed.  She asked to speak to a customer service rep., but, she was told that their office was closed for the day.  Apparently, they go by Central Time, which is two hours ahead of us.  So, she will have to call again, tomorrow, to explain that FedEx did NOT deliver the second item!  Hopefully, it is still somewhere in a FedEx distribution center (or in one of their vans!) and didn't get delivered to a different customer!  We don't want service to our existing modem to get cut off while someone else plugs in the new modem and then be liable for their internet bill!  The sooner we get the missing modem figured out, the better!

What did get delivered today were the two gifts we ordered for my cousin's grandsons.  One for the birthday boy who will be turning 3 and a small gift for his big brother who is 5 (it's not his birthday, but, I don't want him to feel left out).  I made a couple of cards to go with the gifts and then, I called cousin V to ask if I can stop by on Friday afternoon to drop off the gifts.  She said yes, and invited me to have lunch, but, I declined.  We'll see how well that works!  LOL.

Later, I spoke with friend A and I am still planning to visit her on Saturday, if she is feeling well enough.  Spoke with friend R, too.

In the evening, I put in an order for groceries, which I will pick up tomorrow (Friday) morning.  Just a few things and a bunch of flowers to take to friend A

Today, I am grateful for:
- Good weather
- Chatting with family and friends
- Garden harvests
- A working TV
- Being able to order groceries online

Today's joyful activity was making cards.

Plans for tomorrow include:
- Picking up the groceries
- Dropping off gifts at cousin V's
- M to tend to the garden in the evening

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?  If any of you are in the path of Storm Eunice, I hope you are safe and the storm will pass over without causing any damage!

  1. Oh dear about your modem. We've seen many reports of trains with the FedEx, UPS & other delivery companies trailers getting ransacked when going through the Los Angeles area - let's hope that yours is just with the driver's van for today's deliveries. I have a friend that forbids us to bring a gift for the non birthday child when gifting the birthday child. I usually then hide a treat in my pocket or fuss more on their latest creation with lego. Their Mother believes it is a teachable moment, that you don't always have to share the lime light. I'll say no more about that.

    1. My daughter called the phone company, today, and we got the matter clarified. Apparently, although the information on the account stated "Order Completed", the modem we were promised has not been shipped yet! They will ship it today, we were told, and it should arrive, tomorrow!

I, too, have seen the news coverage about people breaking into the containers in the rail yards and stealing. It really is shameful and sad.

I guess one has to abide by the mother's request not to bring gifts for the non-birthday child. I think these sort of teachable moments are fine when the children are older, but, mother knows best, I suppose. :)

  2. Well done on the progress with the garden shed. Are you keeping the garden equipment or is it something else for disposal? It sounds like you're near the end of that mini project anyway.

I hope you can sort out the whereabouts of the missing modem without too much hassle. All these deliveries are fine until one goes wrong and then it can be frustrating to get it sorted properly.

I do hope you get to visit friend A as that will mean she is feeling well enough to receive visitors. Good luck with your visit to cousin V and hope she accepts that you are not staying to lunch.

I'm spending today at home. I was supposed to be meeting a friend for lunch but we both decided it wasn't worth the risk - the storm is definitely here now! - and will stay in the safety of our homes. We'll meet next week instead. The electricity keeps flickering, so hopefully it won't cut out completely but I do have plenty of blankets if the heating goes off, and I cooked some chicken first thing so can eat that cold if necessary. I'll be glad when the storm passes over!

    1. Thank you, Eileen; I spent some time out in the shed, today. There were signs that either a cat or a possum (or both) had got into the shed at one time or another; I pulled out the smaller items, broke cobwebs, and swept up the worst of the dirt. Later, when M was here, I had him pull out the one or two bigger items (the barbecue grill, etc.) and I swept a little more. The plan is to wash the floor, tomorrow. I tossed a few smaller items, today. The lawnmower will be disposed of, the grill will be kept. I have to decide about the pole lopper (it has a cutting blade mounted on a pole and a wire that you pull to bring the blade down when cutting small tree branches). The blade probably needs to be sharpened before use, though. I will keep the 7' ladder and most of the pots, etc.

Yes, cousin V accepted that I will not have lunch. :)

I'm glad you decided to stay home today and wait out the storm. Hopefully, you can meet with your friend, next week. I hope you didn't lose electricity and everything is well.

  3. I hope you find where you modem is today. We've only had one package delivered to the wrong house, but it seems to happen fairly often in the neighborhood. If someone else got your modem, maybe they will bring it to you today.

    1. Thank you, June; the modem is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, now. Apparently, they didn't have the modem in stock and no one bothered to let us know! Customer service said it is now in stock and will be shipped out, today!

  4. I do hope your modem turns up safe and sound. It has been very windy with lots of rain here but as I live on the coast I was worried about flooding but I've just been informed the flood warning is no longer in force which is a huge relief. High tide was at noon and it's now 3.45 p.m. No plans to take Tilly out in these strong winds today.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; my daughter called and apparently, it was not shipped when we were told it would be! It is now supposed to be delivered tomorrow! We are happy that it didn't get lost in transit! Glad the storm didn't result in any flooding! I was hearing about the effects of the storm on BBC news!

  6. I hope you find your parcel soon. When the postal service works, it's awesome. When it doesn't, it's baffling and it always feels impossible to get anywhere!

    1. Thank you, Lyssa; it is supposed to be delivered, tomorrow! Apparently, they didn't ship it when they said they would! It would have been nice if they had indicated that, instead of saying the order was completed!

  7. Sounds like a nice day other than the missing modem. I hope you are able to get that taken care of quickly. My plans for Friday was a trip to the dentist this morning and now have the rest of the day and weekend free to relax and catch up on blogs. :)

    1. Sorry for the delay in responding to your comment Martha. I don't know why, but, your comment had gone to my Spam folder and I hadn't checked it in a few weeks! But, the modem has now been replaced and everything is working well. Glad you got that tooth attended to.

  8. Hope the modem arrives. Perhaps it was just a delay. Sounds as though wind has been a problem in several places today! Hope you have a good weekend.

  9. A pity about the modem, rather disappointing so I hope it will arrive soon and work well for you.
I had coffee with my friend this morning and fetched a few groceries. In the afternoon we got the wall unit put back after our floor renovation and I replaced most of the books and albums. We have been watching a lot of on-line news as the police begin to gain control over the illegal occupation of Ottawa.

Sounds like you've had a busy day! Glad you were able to have coffee with your friend and get your groceries. Glad the wall unit is back in place and you've put away your books and albums, too. I heard about the police arresting the protesters on the news. I hope everything gets resolved in a peaceful manner.

  11. Those are some nice greens in that patch of garden. It must be nice to walk out and clip a few when you want.

That is too bad about the missing modem. Hopefully as I read on the situation has rectified itself.

    1. I love having the fresh greens! I am also thinking of picking some to blanch and freeze.

We have now received the new modem and it has been installed! All is well! :)
