Well, maybe not that chilly, but, it was definitely a bit cool! M said it was 37F in his area when he went outside, early Friday morning. I waited until afternoon, when it was warmer, to go outside.
By the way, for those of you who say you should have eaten breakfast before reading my posts, this is an alert that this post might contain a food picture! Consider yourselves warned! LOL.
Friday was a good day! I did a load of laundry, swept the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen floor, did a load of dishes, transferred some gardening-related items from the garage to the shed, decluttered a few items, called and checked on neighbor T (she's very sore, she said, and black and blue from the bruises), called friend S, chatted with friend R, too, did a little gardening with M when he was here in the evening (we dug up a spadeful of the phacelia seedlings from near the moringa tree and transplanted them in a spot near the back wall to see if they will grow there), and ordered groceries!
In between, from time to time, I watched news, because there is a lot going on in our world right now, and in a way, we are all eye witnesses to history! I am blessed in that I can witness it from a distance, from the safety and comfort of my home, and not have to experience it first hand.
Daughter and I had leftover dolma for brunch, today. In the evening, I decided to make a small pot of soup. There was a small container of leftover pork pot roast that needed to be finished. But, first, I needed some broth, so, I took out a packet of chicken bones from the freezer and boiled that to make the broth. Then, I added a carrot, a potato, some bell pepper pieces, the leftover pork roast, half a can of red kidney beans, a handful of frozen corn, a couple of cloves of garlic, some sliced onion, a couple of kale leaves chopped up, salt and pepper, and a couple of teaspoons of tomato paste and let it all simmer:
Friday Night Soup |
- A working heater
- A sunny, if cool, day
- M tending to the garden
- Being able to order groceries online
I was going to make soup yesterday, but didn't get around to it. Maybe this weekend. And I think 37 is cold, especially when the wind is blowing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be able to make some soup this weekend, June. It's a good, warming meal on a cold day. :)
DeleteYour soup sure looks delicious! Have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. It turned out well! Hope you are having a lovely weekend at your end. :)
DeleteBless, you've made me smile with your warning. Not only do we have to take note of warnings such as PG when watching movies, now we have to look out for FP (food picture) when reading your blog! Your soup looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteWe are also watching, listening to and reading the news at this troubling time. As if there isn't enough suffering in the world, now this despot decides to entertain himself by causing misery for countless numbers of people, including his own countrymen.
Glad I was able to make you smile, Bushlady. :) I like the abbreviation! "This blog post has been rated FP for Food Pictures." LOL. The soup turned out really well and I thought of Honor Min when I added the kale; she would have been proud of me! :D
DeleteExactly, Bushlady; it isn't as if we don't have enough suffering in the world. :(
Temperatures are falling here as well, currently 8°C according to the weather channel! It's been bright sunshine all day but there's no warmth in the sun so I'm indoors keeping warm and haven't bothered with a walk or clearing the pots as I'd planned.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing a mix of meal planning and adventure planning, with quite a bit of piano practice thrown into the mix as well.
Hope you're both having a lovely day x
You are wise to stay indoors where it is warm, Eileen. But, at least the sun is shining! I hate it when it is cold and gloomy; it makes me feel even colder!
DeleteMeal planning and adventure planning sounds delightful! I need to get back into the habit of practicing the piano! :D
Thank you; hope you have a great weekend, Eileen. :)
Watching the news reports of what is happening in Ukraine is distressing and it makes me feel so sad that all we can do is watch from afar and feel helpless.
ReplyDeleteYour soup does look delicious as do all your photos of your meals and treats.
Not only is it distressing, Eileen, it is going to impact all of us in one way or another. Gas prices will go up, which will cause food prices to go up, and there is also an increased threat of cyber attacks in retaliation for sanctions. But, it is nothing compared to what the innocent civilians are experiencing.
DeleteI am very happy with how the soup turned out! I generally don't follow recipes when I make soup, etc., just adding what I have on hand. I just wish the true color of the soup showed up in my photo! :D
I made myself a hearty bean and lentil soup today, too! Still got lots left. Glad you are feeling so busy and energetic. (I'm not sure that sheds are meant to be as spotless as yours ... it's not natural! But best minimise opportunities for black widows to hide.)
ReplyDeleteYes the news from Ukraine is horrifying. I hope and pray that things will be resolved soonest.
Glad to hear that you, too, made some soup. Bean and lentil sounds great!
DeleteThank you! It doesn't happen that often - feeling energetic - but, when it does, I need to take advantage of it! Otherwise, nothing will get done! Believe me, the shed won't look quite so spotless for long! But, I do hope I can keep it somewhat clean and cleared.
We do our soups very similarly. When I make one, I always say to myself: "leftovers supreme".
ReplyDeleteI like "leftovers supreme"! Sometimes, I keep a container of bits and pieces in the freezer and add to it until it is full, then, that becomes the base for a pot of soup!
DeleteIt is so cold here and soup would've been perfect for dinner. We had pancakes smothered in syrup and butter. It is so very, very sad what the people in Ukraine are going through. It is not right and it is not fair what Putin is putting them through. All they want is to live in a free country. It is heartbreaking that they have to take up arms to be able to do so. I am praying for them constantly. Denise
ReplyDeleteYum! pancakes with syrup and butter sounds good, too! I often have "breakfast for dinner" when I am alone. :) There are enough problems in the world, today, with the pandemic, climate change, and natural disasters; a war on top of everything else is just too much!
DeleteI love home made soup. You sound like you were very busy despite the temperature.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa; yes, it was a productive day. :)
DeleteSounds like a busy day! I always enjoy seeing your foodie photos!
ReplyDeleteIt was a productive day; the weekend hasn't been as productive, but, that's OK. Thank you, Sharon. :)
DeleteYour soup looks very good and it sounds like it was the perfect day for it. The ingredients sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteYou were busy last Friday
The soup turned out really well. It was basically a vegetable soup with just a little meat added to it. My daughter, who doesn't care that much for most soups, really liked it!
DeleteYes, Friday was a productive day! :)
