Sunny and Warm on Sunday

Today, it was both sunny and warm!  The daytime high was 83F which was quite nice!  When I woke up in the morning, the temperature inside the house was 66F, which was a little cool for me; it was warmer outside, so I opened the windows and the front door to warm up the house!  Tonight's low is supposed to be 54F.

After I said my morning prayers and drank my cup of tea, I went outside to walk for 20 minutes in the driveway.  Afterwards, I did another load of laundry.

I spent the afternoon sewing, piecing together some "crumbs", which are the tiny bits of fabrics that are leftover from various other projects.  I am making 8 1/2 inch by 8 1/2 inch blocks for now.  I haven't quite decided what I am going to do with the pieced blocks, but they might become a quilt top or a table runner or something else!  I just wanted to do some rather mindless sewing and crumb block are a good way to use up the stash!

Daughter made lunch us lunch, today:

Lunch: Pad Thai made with Tofu Shirataki Noodles

She made Pad Thai using tofu shirataki noodles with shrimp, peanuts, eggs, onions, garlic and other spices.  It was delicious!

Later in the afternoon, daughter and I drove over to give friend R some of the tomato soup I had made, along with a piece of watermelon.  R returned some of the containers I had given her when I've taken food to her.  I would have taken her some corn bread, too, but, she has said she doesn't like corn bread.

After we came home, daughter decorated the house for Halloween!  I don't have a lot of Halloween decorations, having decluttered them over the years.  But, she spread around the few that I have and I need to renew the wreath which is starting to fall apart after being stored in the garage for a couple of years (I didn't decorate for Halloween, last year).

Still later, I trimmed daughter's hair.

For dinner, I made curry puffs with a packet of frozen puff pastry squares and the last of the ground turkey curry I had made, earlier in the week.  I find myself finding excuses to bake in order to heat up the house, a little bit!

Today, I am grateful for:

- A sunny and warm day
- Being able to visit friend R
- Daughter making lunch
- Daughter decorating the house for Halloween
- A working oven

Today's joyful activity was sewing.

Plans for tomorrow include all the regular Monday chores (dusting, taking the trash cans to the curb, etc.) and maybe more sewing.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Your Pad Thai looks yummy. I like a mild veggie Pad Thai but haven't been able to enjoy one (it's always when out for lunch) since lockdown & I cannot make at home, Mr Man is deathly allergic to anything with fish & I've yet to find a good substitute for an at home version. I like your description of a crumb block for quilting.

    1. Oh, I'm sorry you can't make Pad Thai at home, Mary-Lou. I found a couple of vegetarian versions, online, without any mention of fish products; maybe try one of those? I enjoy making crumb blocks! It's almost meditative! :D

  4. I like the idea of a "crumb" quilt block. I see Dancer has started his own decluttering!

We set off for DS and family on Sunday in pouring rain. As we drover further east it soon stopped and we had glorious weather all Sunday and Monday. Returning home Monday evening we found our road was wet! I hope they got some sun here, haven't heard yet.

    1. I had fun making my crumb quilt blocks. I had a gallon size bag full of small pieces of scrap fabric and I made 7 full blocks and 3/4 of another with just those pieces! It will be another on-going project, to be added to as I acquire more crumbs. :)

Glad you didn't have to drive all the way in the rain and you had two sunny days over Thanksgiving. I'm sure you had a lovely visit with your DS and family. Hope you have some sunny days at home, too. :)

  5. I've never heard of a crumb bock. Is that an official name or one you've made up over the years. Either way, it's a great name.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

    1. It is the official name! I am not quite sure who came up with it, but, if you do a search online for "crumb quilt blocks" or, even, "crumb blocks", you'll find lots of descriptions, tutorials, examples, etc. Basically, it is scrap piecing with the really tiny pieces or "crumbs" of fabric! If I hadn't heard the term, I would have just said crazy patchwork/crazy quilts. It's a great way to use up all those bits and pieces you end up with after sewing other projects. :)
