Today was the day for the furnace installation! I woke up at 7:00 a.m. (and managed to catch a glimpse of both Bun Bun and Snowbunny out in the parkway in front of the house - I don't know what they were finding to eat there as that strip is bare of any vegetation, but, they were both nibbling on something!) and got ready for the technicians to arrive. The company delivering the furnace arrived first, but, their workers stayed in the truck until the technician from the company I hired to install the furnace arrived at 8:00 a.m. They had the old furnace out quite quickly:

Then, they put in the new vents, etc. and installed the new furnace:

However, they had to leave some openings at the top and bottom of the furnace for the City's building inspector to to check that it was installed properly. After the building inspector signs off on it, a plasterer will fill in the openings and cracks. I don't know when that will take place. Hopefully, very soon!
The installers finished their work and left by 1:30 p.m. Afterwards I rested for a bit, watched some videos online, brought in the trash cans, checked on the plants after yesterday's rain (Wawa and Walter Melon had not split!), cooked salmon with onions, tomatoes, and kale for dinner, along with a pot of rice, practiced the piano a little, and did the dishes. Later, chatted with friend R.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Having the new furnace installed (even if installation isn't quite complete)
- A relatively warm day
- Daughter's help with various household tasks
- Being able to restore some order to the spare bedroom
- Weekly trash collections

ReplyDeleteWell, not quite because the building inspector has to come and approve the job and then, the plasterer has to come and patch the gaps. But, otherwise, yes! I have a new heater. :)
DeleteI can understand you resting after a morning watching the upheaval of the furnace removal and installation of the new one. I hope the building inspector and plasterer will be able to come very soon!
ReplyDeleteI notice that the squirrel who comes for peanuts seems to be coming more frequently and taking them away, rather than just sitting on the old lilac bush and eating one. I warned DH not to leave his work shirt on the bench on the porch as it won't be long before a cosy nest is being created in our woodshed and in the past a flannel shirt got chewed for fibres to line a nest!
Thank you, Bushlady. There was a bit of drama about the payment at the end and that stressed me out, too. But, yes, I hope it won't be too long before the inspector checks and signs off (hopefully) and the plasterer can finish up! I'll need to paint the wall, afterwards.
DeleteOh, how sweet! Baby squirrels! Although, isn't it a bit late in the season for them to have babies? Maybe you have some old yarn you can leave out for them to line their nest, in lieu of your husband's shirt?
I know a new furnace is never what anyone wants to buy. It is kind of like a new roof. Necessary but unexciting!

She has been vaccinated since February and got a breakthrough covid case in August. It was interesting to hear about her experience.
She also got the booster shot last week. She got the booster in one arm and the flu shot in the other at the same time. lol

DeleteOh, wow! Your friend is a brave woman to get both vaccines at the same time! Well done! Hope she has no side effects from either vaccine! These breakthrough cases are scary, aren't they?
