| Blue Pumpkin |
Gardener friend M specializes in growing pumpkins and other winter squash! He brought me one of his blue pumpkins, the other day. I have it up on the living room mantelpiece for now, as a decoration, but, it is supposed to be edible and I might try cooking it, one day, soon.
Today has been mostly cloudy with some sunshine in the afternoon. I finished redoing my Halloween wreath, adding a few new items to it:

Later, I vacuumed the rest of the house and did a couple of loads of laundry.
I made-over some leftovers for lunch:

Cooked spaghetti noodles, leftover baked chicken cut into small pieces, a handful of coleslaw mix, a piece or two of bell peppers, cut into small strips, all sauteed in a bit of bacon fat, with a little soy sauce and dried chili flakes stirred in at the end with a handful of peanuts and a little chili sauce after serving to a plate.
Later in the afternoon, my daughter prepared two Korean dishes:

A type of stew made with tofu and vegetables (zucchini, mushrooms, potatoes, onion); to be served over rice. She took some over to N (neighbor S's daughter) afterwards.
She likes to do meal prep on the weekends and cook for the week. I seem unable to meal prep for more than a couple of days, although, there was a time when I used to cook for the week!
Today, I am grateful for:
- Wool sweaters
- Working appliances
- Daughter cooking some of this week's meals
- Being able to make-over leftovers
- Getting some crafting done
Today's joyful activities included redoing the Halloween wreath and making a seedpod garland.
Plans for tomorrow include putting gas to the car. I have half a tank of gas and I usually fill up the tank when it gets to half. Especially since I have to go to downtown on Monday for my eye appointment. A half a tank of gas will get me there and back without a problem, but, I don't like to let the tank get to quarter before I fill it.

The wreath is lovely, Bless and I like the friendly looking pumpkin. I really must get decorated for Halloween this week, as hopefully there will be some callers this year. And The Blue Pumpkin is such a beautiful colour.

Thank you, Jules. I haven't decorated the outside of the house, as I am not willing to open my door to trick or treaters, yet. Our Covid numbers are still too high for my comfort to treat anyone!

I've never heard of a blue pumpkin. Will the taste be different I wonder?
ReplyDeleteAll the food looks so tasty. My own meal planning is gradually evolving and I'm now occasionally including your way of cooking one or two dishes that provide a combination of main meals and lunches for two or three days, usually with the Indian recipes.
I'm having a fairly relaxed Sunday. Plenty of piano practice and catching up with a variety of 5 - 10 minute tasks around the house. I hope you and your daughter have a lovely day xx
To be honest, this is the first time I've heard of a blue pumpkin, myself! But, I have read that they are popular in Australia!

Glad you are having a relaxed Sunday. My Sunday morning was taken up with sleeping in, prayers, and chatting on the phone with aunt C and neighbor T. I need to be a bit more productive in the afternoon before I can relax in the evening! :)
I've seen blue pumpkins in the stores, but have never eaten one. You'll have to let us know what it's like.

DeleteI do like your Halloween wreath. We too fill up the tank when the petrol gets to the half way mark. Petrol prices have shot up here so it will be expensive for even half a tank. I hope your eye appointment goes well. We had black clouds earlier but now the sun is shining although it is quite chilly, we definitely need our winter woollies on.

ReplyDeleteWe had DS and DDIL up for a visit today, without DGD this time as she wanted to get on with her homework and chill out rather than go on a long drive. So we sent them home with a container of dinner for her (she likes grandma's cooking) and also the remains of the peach crisp we all had for dessert. The weather was reasonable, not too cold and the promised rain held off until this evening.
Thank you, Bushlady; my mother bought that jack-o-lantern scarecrow pick for my daughter when my daughter was about 5 years old, if not younger. I've been using it in the wreath for at least the last 20 years!

How lovely to have your DS and DDiL visit! Too bad your granddaughter couldn't visit, too, but, she is growing up! I'm sure she enjoyed receiving her portion of dinner and the rest of the dessert! Peach crisp sounds delicious!
It was a cloudy, but, mild day, here, today; we are told to expect a rain storm tomorrow! I wouldn't mind it too much, except, I have an eye appointment scheduled in the morning! NOT looking forward to driving in the rain during the morning rush hour!

Yes, I will save some of the seeds for planting! Will probably roast the rest for snacking!
DeleteThank you; every year, after Halloween is over, I put the wreath in a big plastic bag and store it in the garage. It helps to protect the pick.
