Finally Friday

I am always happy when Friday arrives and the work week ends!  It doesn't matter that I had taken vacation time off from work on Monday and Tuesday of this week; it still felt like a long work week!  Probably because I've been busy with a project and there were one or two hiccups that had to be taken care of before I could say that the project was completed.

Today, I went to the office in the morning and had a very busy and productive day. As soon as I went in, one of the clerical staff informed me that there were strawberry doughnuts for breakfast - they are glazed doughnuts with a filling of fresh strawberries.  I took half of one, which was plenty for me.  I should have taken a picture, but I forgot!

During my afternoon break, I walked to the nearby post office to buy a stamp and mail a payment.  They were just closing up when I went in, but the cashier sold me my stamp, anyway, which was very nice of her.  I used to carry a book of stamps tucked into the pocket of my checkbook cover, but I had taken it out and kept it on my desk at home during the time I was working from home.  I need to put it back in the checkbook so I have it handy every time I write a check to pay a bill.  Yes, I am one of the holdouts who pays bills by check and mails them; it's my way of supporting the postal service!

Today, I asked my gardener friend to prune the bottle brush tree, especially the branches at the top which got singed from the neighbor's garage fire.  I asked him to set aside 3 or 4 of the branches for me as I have a project in mind.  He brought me two amaryllis bulbs from his garden to plant in mine!

I'm afraid I wasn't very productive once I got home in the evening.  One of my friends phoned and I spoke with her for a bit.  Another friend emailed and I replied to her email.  I put away the dried laundry from yesterday and I video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A sunny, warm day
- Strawberry filled doughnuts
- Getting my project completed at work
- Helpful co-workers
- The amaryllis bulbs my gardener friend gave me

Friday's To Do List:
- Leave a note for my gardener friend - DONE
- Go to the office - DONE
- Put away the dried laundry - DONE
- Do a load of dishes in the dishwasher
- Water the front garden
- Post office to mail payment - DONE

I didn't do the dishes, so that will be done tomorrow; watering the garden, too, is being postponed.

Saturday's To Do List:
- Water the front garden
- Do dishes/run dishwasher
- Plant the uprooted succulents
- Weed
- Housework (dust/vacuum)
- Laundry

How was your Friday?  What have you planned for the weekend?

    1. It's funny how we all look forward to the weekend, isn't it? My gardener friend says we are like family; he's been doing my garden for more than 24 years, now!

  2. This post made me chuckle to myself. It reminded me how I always feel you are a proper grown up if you carry a pack of tissues and have a book of stamps in your purse. I'm only half way there. X 😆

    1. Ha, ha, Jules, good for you for getting there! I was at the grocery store the other day when a little child needed a tissue and neither the mother nor the other lady who was with them had a tissue between them! I was able to pull out my pack of tissues and offer it to them! I guess I'm one of those people who carry "everything but the kitchen sink" in their purses! It weighs a ton, but I don't mind.

  3. Sounds like you deserved a lazy evening. I'd be telling myself I did something by chatting with the people you did. As it was my birthday I ended up going out to eat with a couple of friends. I had a wonderful time. It made me realise how much I miss chatting with them on a daily basis - I used to work with them. I don't miss the place they work though lol

  5. Some weeks are just never ending aren't they. The strawberry doughnuts sound divine. Are there cakes in the office every Friday simply because it's the end of the week or was it somebody's birthday? I think most of my weight went on when I worked in school. There was always a birthday and therefore cake in the staffroom, plus those delicious school puddings that are hard to resist. xx

    1. The office treats are a random thing that occurs on a regular basis! LOL. It's not necessarily every Friday, but at least once a week, someone brings in something and it is usually something sweet. Earlier in the week, it was a box of some Asian cakes. I am thinking of taking in a fruit platter, one of these days, but I haven't been organized enough to do so!

    2. Somehow I missed this reply but it made me laugh out loud. I shall have to pinch your "random things that occur regularly" saying. Very funny. xx

  6. No doubt you are glad it is Friday. What a week it has been. On your two days off, you had your daughter at home and you were driving her to and from her focus group/workshop and subsequently to the airport. You've had two doctors' appointments this week, made a large batch of sausage rolls, finished a project at work, and spent your evenings weeding, fertilizing and watering your garden plants. Finding all the succulents "dug up" from your parkway would have pulled the stuffing right out of you. That was one very tumultuous week. TGIF.

  7. Hope your amaryllis bulbs came up and are still going strong. My sister usually gives me one at Christmas, to grow as a houseplant, and I have always been successful, till this year. It has not bloomed at all - probably because my house has been so cold because of the roof problems. Anyway, in the past I have saved the bulbs and tried to grow them again, both indoor and out, but never any luck. I saw them growing outside in Japan - presumably we just don't have the right conditions here.

    1. Well, one of the amaryllis bulbs came up, but, it didn't bloom and then, it just fizzled out! M planted them in the front garden and it just gets too hot there; maybe we should have planted them in the back! I'm sorry your Christmas amaryllis didn't bloom for you, this year. Maybe it might surprise you, later on, when it warms up a bit?

    2. Maybe. It has three leaves on it but hasn't changed for weeks. My parents' finished blooming in February! Anyway I have left it in a warm window so who knows..?

    3. I'll keep my fingers crossed for it to bloom - maybe this summer!
