On Monday

Holiday Chocolates

A friend sent us a box of holiday chocolates.  They arrived in an insulated package with cold packs to keep the chocolates fresh!

On Monday, all the excitement of the past couple of days caught up with me!  I woke up with a headache which I tried to sleep off, unsuccessfully.  I checked my blood pressure and found out that it has spiked!  My blood pressure had been so low recently, that at the beginning of the month, my doctor took me off one of my blood pressure medications.  I was fine for the next couple of weeks, but, today, my pressure had spiked.  I went back on the medication and it brought down my blood pressure back to normal.  But, the headache lingered.

I took a nap in the afternoon hoping that it would help, but it didn't/  So, I took a dose of Tylenol and that, and a cup of tea, did help.  But, as a result of the headache, I didn't go to the pharmacy to get my flu shot.

I had egg salad sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, today.  I think I will have some of the spicy potatoes for my dinner.  And, hopefully, go to bed at a more reasonable time and maybe catch up on my sleep.

Today, I am grateful for:

- My blood pressure monitor
- Blood pressure medications
- My pressure responded to the medication
- Afternoon naps
- Daughter taking out the trash and recycling bins to the curb for me

Today's joyful activities included being mostly inactive, resting and taking a nap!

Plans for tomorrow include:

- Getting my flu shot
- Taking daughter to get her flu shot
- Making and mailing some last minute holiday greeting cards
- Making some Christmas/New Year gifts if I feel up to it

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. Rest! I was really uncomfortable the day after my flu shot - very achey and my arm hurt. Don't plan any major activity! Feel wel, again soon

  2. So sorry that you had a persistent headache, but the good news is that it signaled that your blood pressure was up so you could do something about it. Hope there are restful days ahead.

    1. Thank you, June. I'm wondering if I had a migraine, although I didn't get the visual aura before the headache, because, even after my pressure came down, the headache lingered. I went to bed relatively early (for me, anyway), and slept in this morning and the headache has gone away. I am not planning to do much today, other than taking my daughter to get her flu shot later in the afternoon.

    2. I have had many migraines and I have only had the visual aura once.

    3. I used to get visual auras almost every time I had a migraine in the past (and sometimes, just the visual aura).

    1. They do look very posh, don't they? They have three flavors of a cream filling inside (we sampled them!). I liked them, but my daughter didn't and she told me that the rest of the chocolates were all mine! :D

    1. They do look lovely, don't they? My headache went away and my blood pressure came down. We both got our flu vaccines today, so, I expect to be a bit achy tomorrow, but, hopefully, not too much. :)

  7. I hope you have gotten some sleep at last and are feeling better now. You don't need to do anything for a few days! The flu shot can wait a little. Keep resting.

    1. Thank you, Celie. Yes, I slept for almost 9 hours last night and felt fine, today. No headache, pressure quite normal, sugar quite normal, too. I decided to take the flu shot today, after all, and daughter did, too. We'll relax over the rest of the week as we plan to stay at home.

  10. My heart goes out to you. Blood pressure is so important and when it is too high or too low it is not good. This has happened to me.
Headaches...I don't get them often but when I do, sometimes taking a relaxing shower and allowing the water to cascade on your face and forehead can help...especially if it is a tension headache.
    The chocolates look very good.

    1. Thank you, Linda. I'm monitoring my blood pressure closely and trying to keep it within normal range. Apparently, I can't go off the medication completely, yet. I'll continue to take the full dosage until I can get it back under control and take it from them.
I think the headache might have been from sinus pressure due to the change in the weather. Or, it might have been a sign of a higher than usual blood pressure.
The chocolates were very good, but, I'm trying to ration them as I shouldn't eat too many sweets, either!

  11. I would have been tempted to stick those chocolates together to make snowmen. The added advantage to this would be that every serving would consist of three chocolates, and how could that ever be a bad thing? (Don't tell me, I have my fingers in my ears!)

    1. Oh, I wish I had thought of making snowmen with the chocolates! It would have made the perfect excuse for having three chocolates at a time! :D
