On Friday

Calamondin

The calamondin tree is starting to form fruits again after being pruned back in December of 2024.  There aren't that many fruit on the tree, but, there are enough to pick a few to make infused water.

On Friday, daughter had the day off from work and we picked up my friend R and we went to the Sri Lankan store again.  I mostly wanted some items for the almsgiving, but, as always, there were some treats that found their way to my basket.  Afterwards, I dropped friend R off at her apartment and came home.

We had hamburgers for lunch after we got home and then, daughter and I watched some videos and we napped a bit, too.

Later in the evening, M came over to tend to the garden.  He did a little tidying up and watering of the garden. He also brought us Green Dragon apples.

We had tea after M left and I did the dishes.  Then, I cooked a big pot of dhal, which I froze for the almsgiving.  I put a bag of garbanzo beans to soak overnight and I will cook it on Saturday and freeze that, too.  Then, most of the almsgiving dishes I can make ahead would be done and I'll be free to work on other things.

Daughter did some crocheting and I sat down to make some Christmas cards.  I think I made more mess than cards, but, I am trying to streamline the process.  I also finished knitting a sock and started on the second one.

On Friday, I was grateful for:

- Having access to a Sri Lankan store
- Being able to give friend R a ride to the Sri Lankan store and back
- M tending to the garden
- Time spent crafting with my daugher
- A safe drive to the Sri Lankan store and back

Friday's joyful activities included chatting with friend R on the drive to the store and back, picking up some treats at the Sri Lankan store, and crafting.

Plans for Saturday include one of daughter's friends visiting in the afternoon.  I think they are planning to make fish cutlets.  I will continue to make my cards and knit.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. It seems like every time I do a craft project, the mess is bigger than the results. :)

    1. It's hard to do paper crafts without spreading things out on the table and ending up with tiny scraps of paper all over the place, isn't it?

  2. Quiet weekend, due to laryngitis and loss of voice!

    1. Oh, no! I hope you are able to rest and recover, soon. Hot tea with lemon or honey to soothe your throat is what I'd recommend.

  3. I am not at all good at crafts. Love your photo! Here in Montreal, Canada it is snowing right now...and it is beautiful! I do love Winter and the snow. I am enjoying a quite day today. :)

    1. I do enjoy doing crafts, Linda. I'm glad you enjoy winter and the snow. I do like seeing snow and I spent six winters in Wisconsin where it snows quite a bit in the winter, but, I prefer our milder climate, now. Enjoy your quiet day and I hope you're having a lovely weekend. :)

  4. I looked at that calamondin and immediately thought, "I want one!" I guess it is rather small, though. I chuckled that you wrote that you made more mess than cards. If you can make a mess, just imagine what a preschooler would do with all the components of your card making!

    1. The calamondin is about 1.5 inches in diameter, Bushlady. Quite small and tart, too, but, it is full of vitamin C! A preschooler would have quite a bit of fun with all my cardmaking supplies, no doubt! :)

    1. Thank you, Sharon. My cards are very, very basic, but, I will share pictures once I've made a few. :)

  6. I'm glad you'll have your almsgiving dishes done and ready to go. That makes things so much easier. Any kind of crafting seems to always make such a mess - at least the way I do it, and I guess you too, lol.

    1. Thank you, Martha. I've cooked and frozen what I can and the rest of the planned dishes (curried green beans, shredded and cooked leafy greens, spicy potatoes, fried poppadum) will be prepared the day before the almsgiving and the salad, etc., will be made on the day. The challenge is time - everything must be prepared by 10:30 a.m. as the monks will arrive at 11:00 a.m. and they must finish eating their meal before 12 noon.

  7. When is your almsgiving this year? It seems like you are way ahead than you normally are with your pre-preparations and that's good!
That's nice of you to take friend R along to the Sri Lankan store. I hope she was able to find the things she wanted.

    1. The almsgiving is scheduled for Saturday, December 20th. I need to confirm the date with the temple, later this week. I'm preparing ahead of time because daughter is concerned that I might get over-tired if I don't pace myself. I have three dishes that have to be prepared the day before the almsgiving (they don't freeze well) and the rice and the salad to be prepared on the day, itself.
Friend R was very happy to be given a ride to the Sri Lankan store and back and I was glad I could take her. :)
