Vegetable Harvest: Turnip. Broccoli, and Chard |
This weekend, I harvested a few more vegetables from my mini vegetable plot! Only one turnip seed sprouted and it grew just outside the vegetable plot, but, it formed a cute little turnip! I harvested the turnip, along with the first "head" of broccoli and several (about seven) chard leaves! Not sure, yet, what I'll make with these vegetables. But, I will make use of everything, including the turnip greens.
I am grateful for:
- Being able to harvest vegetables from the garden
At least you're getting some veggies from your plot. Please will you let us know what you cook with your haul?
ReplyDeleteSome is better than none, right? Yes, of course I'll you know what I make! :D
DeleteYou're having a lot of fun with your vegetable plot. Our vegetable beds aren't that big either, but I enjoyed them last summer.
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying it, June. I need to measure my "plot" - I think it is all of 2.5 feet by 1.5 ft.! It started out with a circle for the moringa tree. Then, we scattered some wild flower mix on one side and M made the area a bit bigger and planted the veggie seeds on the other side! Then, a couple of weeks ago, he extended the plot and planted some more radish seeds. :)
DeleteI always love to see what you harvest from your little garden :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. :)
DeleteWonderful. Maybe you can cook chard and turnip leaves together?
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, maybe. :)
DeleteI've just cooked some home grown shredded sprout leaves and some shredded purple kale. Straight from the plot to the pot. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great, Cherie. Nothing like freshly picked from the garden!
DeleteI love pea and turnip puree - I eat it like mashed potato. Maybe an idea? Also love broccoli but I won't ask you to share your prize florette!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever eaten pea and turnip puree or mashed turnips, for that matter! Maybe I'll mix the turnip with potatoes and mash! Ha, ha, wait until I harvest the other two tiny heads of broccoli; I just might have enough to share with you! :)
DeleteThat's wonderful! It's so rewarding to cook and eat produce from your own garden.
ReplyDeleteIt really is, Stephenie, although, right now, I'm far from being self sufficient in vegetables! I have dreams of doing some edible landscaping, but, I've a long way to go!
DeleteA great start!! I really miss not having a vegie garden. Picking whatever leaves you need, for dinner.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ratnamurti. I'm enjoying being able to actually harvest something!
DeleteThat spunky little turnip is a real survivor. I wonder why it survived and the other seeds came to nothing?
ReplyDeleteIt is, isn't it? M said something was eating all his turnip plants! I really don't know why only this one grew. But, I'm glad it did! :)
DeleteIt will all have much more flavour than store bought. X
ReplyDeleteYes, that's very true. :)
DeleteI remember your story of being in college and stretching something to last you for a week. Was it a chicken leg? Ramen? I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you have appreciated that grouping of homegrown vegetables at the point in your life.
It's a beautiful bounty! And you grew them from seed.
Great job.
Ha, ha, yes, it was a chicken leg! :) And, yes, I would have much appreciated that grouping of veggies back then, too! As you read on, you will see how I used what I harvested. :)
