Guess Who Came to Dinner?

On Wednesday, when I went outside to walk a bit, I caught a glimpse of something white hopping away and hiding under the space beneath my closet which bumps out of the wall.  Was it Snowball the white cat?  No, Snowball didn't have long ears!  But, by the time I went inside to get my cell phone and came back out, I couldn't find Long Ears anywhere!

Then, yesterday, I went back outside in the evening, this time with my cell phone, and yes, something hopped away from me!

Bunny!

It's a full grown rabbit!  Maybe someone's pet who has escaped?  Once before, too, I found a little brown bunny hopping around in my garden, but, that time, it was a baby bunny and my daughter named it Usagi (which is Japanese for rabbit, she informed me).

Can it be the Easter Bunny?

It has a brown circular patch on its face which makes it look like it might have stuck its face into a cup of chocolate or coffee!  Maybe it's the Easter Bunny, taking a break from dipping chocolate eggs!

Nibbling on the Grass

It went into the back garden and began nibbling on the grass - the above picture was taken through the smudgy sliding glass door.  I opened the door to take a clearer picture, but, it hopped away around the other corner of the house!

I wonder if it will be back?  I don't mind if it does!  It can share the backyard with the cats and the possums!  But, I will have to tell M to put a fence around the summer vegetable plot!  I am not that willing to share my vegetable plants with it!

Do you see rabbits around your homes?  Do they visit your garden?

  1. Kawaii usagi-chan!! It is not that usual to see wild rabbits around here, but they are always brown ones. (I may have seen the odd black one too.) The only white ones I have seen were pets so I do hope someone isn't missing this little guy, and that he will be OK. He seems to be doing quite well for himself! And maybe you have wild white rabbits where you are. Anyway, lovely addition to the menagerie but good idea about protecting the vegetable plot. I have endless problems with squirrels - to the extent that I have now given up on strawberries - and the raspberries don't fare much better.

    1. Hai! Usagi-chan was back, today, in the side yard, nibbling on some of the weeds growing there! I think it must be an escaped pet! Gardener M saw it out front and said it went into the neighbor's yard, but it was back in my yard, later. The new vegetable plot has been enclosed with a wire mesh to discourage cats using it as a litter box and rabbits mistaking it for a salad bar! :D

  2. He's so cute! I do have little bunnies that visit my yard every day. I love them. You will definitely have to be careful about your veggies though. Have a great weekend Bless. :)

    1. He is cute, isn't he? He was back, again, today, too, enjoying the weeds growing in the side yard. Maybe he will be my new weed control agent! LOL.

Thank you, Martha. Hope you, too, have a good weekend. :)

  3. A cute visitor. I hope he stays away from all your veggies - I can see he wouldn't be too popular if he ate the lot! No, no sign of any rabbits in my garden but plenty of wild ones on the fields surrounding the village.

    1. It was eating the weeds in the side yard, today! But, M put a wire mesh around the new vegetable plot, today. Of course, rabbits do burrow...

  4. Great photos! We have one that visits our garden to eat the birdseed that's fallen. It's so nice to see him/her. Not white and chocolate coloured as your one is!

    1. Thank you, Sharon! I didn't realize that rabbits ate birdseeds! The rabbit was in my side yard, today! My daughter and I enjoyed watching him for a bit, before he hopped away. :)

  5. What an adorable rabbit, with his "chocolate covered" nose! You will certainly need to keep him out of your vegetable patch! We sometimes see a snowshoe hare, usually in summer when they are brown, not white.

    1. He is cute, isn't he? Today, I saw him sitting under the neighbor's van which is parked outside my house! Another neighbor mentioned seeing him, too, and said she thinks it belongs to the neighbors who live next door to me. It's too cute for me to chase it away, but, I won't be very happy if it ate my vegetables!

  6. We have wild rabbits here that quite enjoy any veggies we plant. Also, the neighbors' pet rabbit was in our yard the other day, so rabbits abound here. Have you checked the local newspaper/FB group to see if anyone lost a rabbit?

    1. I think this particular rabbit might belong to the neighbors to the left of me. Gardener friend M saw it hop over to their yard when M came to tend to my yard, yesterday, and, today, neighbor S said she, too, thinks it belongs to those neighbors. I saw the rabbit sitting under their van that is parked in front of my house, this morning. They have dogs, too (who often use my yard!) - maybe the rabbit finds it quieter in my yard!

  8. Oh yes, I get lots of rabbits, especially this time of year. Unfortunately, they eat my beloved Hollyhocks. Yours is gorgeous!

    1. Oh, no, not your lovely hollyhocks! I imagine they could be really destructive in a garden! So far, this rabbit seems to be eating the weeds - at least, as far as I can tell! He was here, today, too!

  9. I visit another blog (in Canada) and she has white rabbits. We have brown rabbits.
Cute - especially the babies - but I wish they didn't like my yard, and the plants :(

    1. I've since found out that there are actually two rabbits and they belong to my neighbors (who apparently let them roam free!)
