Winter Solstice on Saturday

"Silver Pothos" - Gift from Friend M

The antibiotics are slowly making an impact.  I woke up feeling a lot better than I have in days.  But, I took it easy, still.

My daughter and I had been invited to a party one of my cousins was having for her husband's 60th birthday, this evening, but, I texted her to let her know that I wasn't feeling well enough to attend it.  I didn't want to infect anyone else and I didn't want to risk having a relapse.  Cousin texted back saying it was OK and that her mother had been ill, too.  A little while later, my aunt called to tell me that she had had the flu.  We chatted for awhile and agreed to meet after the holidays, when everyone is feeling better.

In the afternoon, I sat down to organize my holiday gifts.  I am not as far behind as I thought I might be!  I wrapped a couple of gifts and bagged up a few others.  My daughter managed to get the printer to work and she printed off some jar labels for me so I can now put the labels on my jars of jam and wrap them up, too.  I'm still behind with the holiday greetings cards, but, they will be mailed as New Year's cards, so, it should be fine.

Later, in the evening, cousin P called and we chatted for a bit.  Still later, cousin V texted.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe flight in, yesterday
- Antibiotics kicking in
- A restful day
- Getting started on holiday preparations
- Keeping in touch with family members

Daughter and I are planning to have another quiet day, tomorrow.  There is rain in the forecast for both tomorrow and Monday, but, we might head out to the shops on Monday for the few gifts I still need to get.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

    1. Thank you, Jules. I figured it was better for all concerned to stay home, keep warm, and take it easy! Hope all is well with you. I can just imagine how excited a certain little girl must be getting, around this time!

  2. Glad to read you are feeling better. My meds are working too, so I'm going out to the Candlelight Carols this evening. I've missed all the Christmas events this week, so it will be extra special. Hope you have a good week too

  3. We had a good Saturday puttering around the house getting things straightened up for company that will be coming for the holidays.

Staying home is the best for everyone and spending quiet time with your daughter sounds wonderful.

    1. It's nice to have company over the holidays, isn't it? And nothing like the thought of company coming to make us want to tidy up! Although, I'm sure your home is a very welcoming place to all who visit, Live and Learn.

    1. Thank you, Natalia. Yum! Gingerbread cookies! I am sure your home smells wonderful with the aroma of cookies baking! But, do put your feet up and rest a bit (and maybe have a cookie!). Hope you, too, have a wonderful Christmas.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie; I am feeling much better, today. Yes, she not only printed them out, but, also wrote in the type of jam as her handwriting is better than mine! :D

  7. Keep feeling better ... and gifts/cards will bee appreciated whenever you feel able to tackle them-
I know the idea of rain during the holidays may seem less than festive, but your area is usually so dangerously dry that I consider it a 'gift from the weather' when it does come your way-
i know you are happy having your daughter there with you ... enjoy your time together-
    As always, fondest wishes-

    1. Thank you, Barb. I am feeling a lot better, today. :)

The rain hasn't materialized yet, but, it is much needed. And that reminds me that I need to buy myself a new umbrella!

I am definitely enjoying having my daughter home with me. I'm going to feel lonely when she goes back after the New Year!

I hope you are keeping well, Barb. You know that I am keeping you all in my prayers. Enjoy the best Christmas that you can with your loved ones. Please give my best wishes to your daughters.

  8. Always a pity to miss out on social gatherings but you are wise to take your time about entering into it all until you are sure you are fully recovered. It seems you have "company in your misery" with other family members out of action, too. You will all be able to celebrate together when recovered.
Well, the tree is in the house and the snow has dripped off and I will be putting the lights on next after cleaning up the floor and putting the skirt around it. In the meantime I decided to put the cards on display on a gold cord across the archway between living and dining room.

    1. Yes, I think I made the right decision to stay home, Bushlady. I didn't want to risk getting sick again, going out in the cold, before I had fully recovered.

Have fun decorating your tree! I have displayed my cards from the edge of the mantlepiece. I am piling all the gifts, too, as they get wrapped and bagged, around the fireplace, as I didn't put up a tree, this year.
