Thursday: Farmers Market and Daughter Comes Home

On Thursday, I went to the office.  During my lunch break, I went to the weekly farmers market.  This time, I remembered to take my cell phone with me to take some pictures. There are stalls set up along the sidewalk and in a courtyard area:

Breads and Other Baked Goods

The sellers offer a variety of items from fresh produce to cooked food and hand crafted items such as homemade soap.  I bought a croissant from my favorite French bakery stall (but forgot to take a picture of that!)

After work, I picked up the Thai food my daughter had requested for dinner - beef fried rice and chicken satay with peanut sauce.

Then, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few items: milk ($1.99), bread ($1.99) and bananas ($.59/lb).  My total came to $5.18.

June 22 Groceries
(Yes, Mr. Nosy came to see what was going on, as usual.)

After that, it was time to go to pick up daughter.  Her flight was delayed, so she arrived an hour later than scheduled, but she's here, safe and sound!  We had dinner, chatted, and looked through some photo albums/scrapbooks, together. Daughter "fixed" the TV so now it works again.

One of my friends had called and left a message, so I called her back.  One of my neighbors called, too, and I chatted a bit with her.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:
- My daughter had a safe flight home
- Daughter is home for the weekend
- Weekly farmers markets
- Safe driving to and from office, etc.
- A working TV

    1. It is so nice to have her home. We are both seated on the sofa, side by side, each on her laptop, but together. :)

  2. It's nice that you can visit the Farmer's Market on your lunch break! Can you walk to it from your office or do you have to drive there? I'm quite disappointed, however, that you forgot to take a picture of that French croissant :)

Enjoy your weekend with your daughter! I'm starting the weekend early, I think, as I'm still in my PJs and thinking that perhaps I won't do too much today :) I don't have set plans for the weekend. Greg and I might go to lunch at Carrabba's to celebrate being within 3 or 4 months of paying off our house (we have a gift card and we'd get a free dish of spaghetti and meatballs to bring back to the kids as part of a promotion) and I want to convince him to come to IKEA with me to pick up a bed. We both hate IKEA so neither of us is keen on going there so we'll see if we make it or I keep on postponing getting a bed :)

    1. It is across the street from my office building, Nathalie. I'll take a picture of the French bakery offerings, next week.

It's fun to have daughter home. When she was little, one of her favorite things to do was to play with my hair - she'd comb and tie bows on my hair, etc. Now that my hair is growing (it is about 3 inches long, now) she played with my hair again, last night, trying to put it in two tiny "pig tails". :D

Sounds like a nice, relaxed weekend ahead of you. Hope you get your bed. Can you just order it on-line and then, go to pick it up? That way, you don't have to go through the whole showroom, etc. Daughter and I love going to IKEA. Her bedroom furniture and my family room sofas are from there (we had them delivered and daughter assembled them). We have a brand new store that is supposed to be huge - we haven't been there, yet, though.

  4. I hope you have a lovely visit with your daughter! I'm excitedly looking forward to mine coming next month. It seems ages since I've seen her. I hope you have lots of fun things planned, or maybe just some hanging out chatting at home.

Your visit to the Farmer's Market reminds me that I should visit. I'll have to double check the days. I know it's open Saturday but it's SO busy and parking is difficult. I think it is open one day in the week. There is nothing better than fresh vegetables!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. She's got a few things planned with her friends, so we are mostly just spending time chatting and relaxing at home, together.

I'm lucky that the farmers market practically comes to me, as it is held right across the street from my office. :)

Did you have a nice camping trip?

  5. Popping out to the farmers market on your lunch break sounds and looks a lovely thing to do. I really like bread and pastry stalls so would definitely make a bee line for those.

I hope you and DD have a lovely weekend together. Are you planning a quiet weekend or do you have plans and Will she be catching up with friends while she's visiting? xx

    1. It is fun to visit the farmers market. The only problem is, everything seems to cost double what I'd normally pay at the grocery stores! But, the produce is organic and fresh, so it is worth it. The baked goods are my downfall! Especially things like croissants that I am not likely to make from scratch. I can pass by the pie stall, because I can make a pie, myself; but croissants and baguettes? I buy them as a weekly treat for myself.

Daughter has some things she's planned to do with friends, this weekend. One of her long time friends (they've been friends since 4th grade) will be going to Harvard, later this summer, to pursue a higher degree and some of his other friends will be going to other states to pursue their higher degrees. So, he is planning a party with the theme of the TV show "Friends", for this weekend, as this might be the last time they'll all be together as a group before they pursue careers and such in different states after this. Apparently, he has been planning this party for several weeks and my daughter is on the "organizing committee" for it! They are apparently even building "sets" based on the show! She showed me some of the Excel sheets he had set up with various tabs such as food, decorations, sets, games, party favors, etc. I told her he'd make a great wedding/events planner! Anyway, she's getting together with him and other friends to do the shopping and food prep., tomorrow, and the party will be at his sister's apartment, on Sunday. I love how they really get into these things. The planning and preparations are as much fun for them, as the event!

    1. Thank you, Judy. She's a bit busy helping with a friend's party, so I am not seeing her as much this weekend as on other visits, but that's OK. She needs to spend some time with her friends, as well. :)

  8. So glad your daughter was able to "fix" your TV. You reminded me that after my husband passed and my daughter was staying with me, she wrote out little cheat sheets for me. I could turn on the TV, but didn't know how to access Cable programming, Netflix or "On Demand" TV. Rick always had the TV on, whether he was watching it or not, it provided background noise. So I was completely at a loss when I tried watching things on my own.

I also find Farmers' Markets are more expensive, but the freshness and convenience to you makes it worth it.

    1. Susan, I am glad your daughter wrote you little cheat sheets. :)

I was able to follow the instructions to reset the TV channels till I got to the "reset the power source" or something like that. My TV and internet service are connected. I didn't want to reboot anything in case I lost internet connection! I'd rather be without TV than internet! Daughter figured out that she could reset the TV only, without messing around with anything else. All this computer stuff leaves me feeling out of my depth!
