Shades of Purple on Thursday

I felt the need for some color, today, after wearing all black, yesterday.  So, I turned to an outfit in my favorite color: purple.

Purple Outfit
The skirt and matching infinity scarf are what I sewed with a piece of fabric I found in my mother's stash.  The fabric is a silky polyester, in a paisley design in shades of purple, with touches of black, pink, and a dark yellow.

With Jacket/No Scarf
I wore it with my purple jacket.  The jacket is a bit too big (it used to be rather snug when I first bought it), but it's not too bad, I think.  I shall be keeping this jacket for the time being, but I shall be shopping for a well fitting jacket, later this year.

With Jacket and Scarf
I couldn't decide which looked better - the jacket with scarf or without.  But it was a cool, overcast day, so I decided to wear the scarf, too.

I had a productive day at the office.  In the afternoon, there was a small reception for a colleague who was retiring and I got to try cannoli for the first time.  They weren't as sweet as I expected them to be, but I liked them.

Later in the evening, I attended the work-related meeting, along with my supervisor and another co-worker.  It was a good meeting and I discovered that I didn't like the taste of oatmeal-raisin cookies all that much anymore because of the cinnamon they had used in them!  I didn't even try the chocolate chip cookies, but now I wish I had!  LOL.  I had some potato chips, though, and they tasted good.

It was almost 8:00 p.m. when I came home.  I had a cup of tea and then, called the temple.  They are collecting donations to send to the flood victims in Sri Lanka and I informed them that I will be stopping by after work, tomorrow evening, to drop off a donation.

It was a "something on toast" type of dinner night.  As often happens, my "something" tonight was a scrambled egg.  I remember when I first came to this country and had baked beans on toast one day - how my American roommates laughed!  Apparently, they had never seen anyone having baked beans on toast!  And that was one of my favorites! Cheese toast and sardines on toast are two other "something on toast" meals that I like.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Safe commutes to work and back.
- Finding my way to the meeting venue and back without getting lost!
- Quick and easy dinners.
- Video chatting with my daughter.
- Feeling better, overall.

Friday's To Do List:
- Go to the office
- Pay the water & electric bill
- Leave a note to my gardener friend
- Go to the temple to make a donation

How was your Thursday?  Do you have "something on toast" type of meals some nights?  If so, what's your favorite "something on toast"?

  1. I love the different shades of colour in your outfit bless. Gorgeous!
An 'on toast' meal is perfect at the end of busy day when you can't be bothered to cook a proper meal or just aren't all that hungry. In my humble opinion beans on toast is just the best. Maybe with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top. I'm feeling hungry now. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. I suddenly realized that it's been awhile since I last ate beans on toast. The last time I tried baked beans, they just tasted wrong as my taste buds weren't back, yet. I sent the rest of the can home with my aunt who was visiting. Time to try them again, I think. Never had them with cheese on top!

  2. I eat baked beans on toast, too. Or sometimes, I just spoon them over a slice of bread. Also, a good taste.

    1. Glad to hear you eat them, too, live and learn. Maybe it's just in the Midwest that it wasn't heard of? This was a fairly small town back in the early 70s. My roommates kept saying, "You're having a bean sandwich!" :D

  3. I love your purple outfit and I like the way your jacket looks and fits.

I especially still like the beans on toast. My mum always made toasted cheese under the grill attached to her cooker, so I no longer eat that but do eat the American grilled cheese oddly enough made in a frying pan! My hubby eats sardines on toast. All very British. I think many of the foods/customs we grew up with stay with us. I do often feel like I am a bit of a misfit not exactly fitting into either my home country or my adopted country.

Glad your tooth is much better.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I received several compliments on my purple outfit at the office, yesterday. :)

Cheese toast was a treat when I was growing up, because the cheese had to be imported and imports were restricted. We had locally canned sardines, so that was more available. My daughter doesn't like cheese so she doesn't care for anything with cheese. But she will, occasionally, ask for sardines on toast!

I definitely agree that foods/customs we grew up with stay with us and some of us pass them on to our children, as well! I was laughing as one of the things my daughter said after she returned from her 3 day visit to Atlanta (where she had to eat restaurant food for the duration) was that she was looking forward to cooking herself a chicken curry!

That feeling of being a bit of a misfit in both countries is common to all immigrants, I think, especially when one has been away from the home country for a long time. I lived in my country of birth for 17 years. I've lived away for 44 years. I'm still very Sri Lankan in some ways and definitely Americanized in other ways!

  4. Very pretty outfit and I see your "supervisor" was in the background taking note!
Beans on toast is such a favourite in our house and sometimes DH asks, "What's for supper, beans?" and I have to remind him that we only had them the other day! One can have too much of a good thing.

    1. Yes, if I am lucky, I can take one, maybe two, pictures before he comes to see what's going on! My mother used to like Marmite on bread or toast, and daughter would eat it, too, but I wasn't all that fond of Marmite or Bovril, which was the other thing my mother enjoyed.

  5. It seems strange that baked beans on toast is an 'odd' meal to some people - it's one of the staples over here and a definite favourite of Amy's :) Another staple, especially for children, are jam sandwiches. Do Americans eat those? I love finding out things like this lol.

Your outfit looks lovely. You're very talented to be able to make so many of your clothes and also alter them - it's a great skill to have. xx

    1. Suzanne, I still eat jam sandwiches, at times! :) The equivalent over here has to be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I didn't have my first taste of peanut butter until I was 11 years old and a visiting American lady offered me some. I didn't much care for it, at the time, but now I keep a jar in the cupboard all the time. My daughter didn't like jam or jelly, so she just had peanut butter sandwiches, without any jelly.

Thank you. I can manage to sew and alter a few things. Not as good as my mother was, but I can make a simple skirt and blouse or a dress.

  6. Your outfit looks lovely! Scrambled eggs on toast is one of favourites with Baked Beans on Toast coming a second, we also have spaghetti on toast here, the spaghetti is tinned not your italian fare! I have been having a lot of Vegemite on toast lately as I have been under the weather. I am only just catching up on your posts, you have been busy!

    1. Sharon, so sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Hope you are feeling better, now. Can't say I've ever had tinned spaghetti on toast, although I've read about it once or twice.
