Family Room Bookcase |
The family room didn't get painted and there was no emptying of the room. In fact, it was quite the opposite as things that were emptied from the living room and dining area were put in the family room! This was how the bookcase above looked when all the books from the living room bookcase were added:

In a way, it was good to know that all the books could fit in one bookcase, along with my scrapbooks, photo albums, and board games.
Currently, I have some of my scrapbooks and all the board games on the bottom shelf and the rest of my scrapbooks and photo albums, along with books about scrapbooking on the shelf above that.
The middle shelf has a few decorative items - two blue and white tea pots (which might go in the dining area), a green glass bird that was a gift from my aunt, and two pieces of pottery that my daughter made in school that she thinks I should get rid of, but, I'm keeping!
The two upper shelves have books, including some that didn't get put back in the living room bookcase for one reason or another. There are a couple of books among them that I want to read and then, donate. But, I have room for them and I am keeping them for now.
Meanwhile, in the dining area, the shelving unit there which has table linen and kitchen towels in the cabinet section:

has had cookbooks and other items returned to it:

However, I am now thinking that the two blue and white tea pots that are currently sitting on the middle shelf in the family room bookcase might look better on the middle shelf of this shelving unit. There might be a little rearranging of items, later today.
It's still a work in progress, I would say. But, this shelving unit is looking a lot better than it did before it was emptied in preparation for painting!
I think I may need to sort out my bookshelves very soon, they are all stacked higgeldy-piggledy, especially cookbooks which were previously on shelves in the kitchen
ReplyDeleteSounds like a project for a rainy day when you are not busy sewing! I have reduced my cookbook collection from three shelves crammed full to half a smaller shelf.
DeleteA work in progress indeed. And you are off to a wonderful start!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I made the change before I went to bed, switching the two tea pots for the two other ornaments. I'll post pictures, later. :)
DeleteIt's always so interesting to see someone else's rearranging and/or decluttering! The dining room shelves look great, but I can see how the two teapots might look good on there, too. It's always fun to try things out.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I made the switch with the teapots and I like it much better. I think the teapots in the dining area makes more sense. I occasionally use them as vases, too, so they sometimes appear in other areas of the house, as well.
DeleteLooks really nice.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try to squish down the bookcases soon. I'm doing really well with the book decluttering, but I want to make sure I don't refill the space so I'm thinking of getting rid of the big bookcase and replacing with the small one, and then getting a cabinet where I now have a small bookcase. We'll see
Thank you, Sharon. I got rid of the entertainment center, if you recall, so the scrapbooks and photo albums that were on those shelves are now housed in the family room bookcase.
DeleteGood idea to see if you can replace your bigger bookcase with a smaller one. You are doing so well with your book decluttering.
The wonderful thing is that you can always change your mind and rearrange your shelves, if you don't like how they look. The teapots are very pretty. Perhaps you should place them where you will see them most often. Xx
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right, Jules; I can always rearrange my shelves and that is exactly what I did! The teapots have been displayed in various rooms from time to time. Most recently, one was in the living room and one was in the family room, holding some dried hydrangeas. Now, they are both on the shelf in the dining area and they look good there, I think. Things will get shuffled around again, I think, once daughter moves back down and brings her stuff. The dining area shelves might become storage for small appliances, for example.
DeleteI really am enjoying following along with your putting this back in their place which is some cases, is a new place.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen this angle from the dining area into your kitchen and I like it. So your refrigerator is enclosed. Mine is as well and I like it like that. And your floor! What a nice pattern your floor has.
Thank you, Debra. Yes, some items have found new homes! Others are trying out new places! :D
DeleteYou are right; I don't think I've taken a picture of the dining area into the kitchen from this angle, before. I was trying to get the whole shelving unit in one frame, to show that it has closed storage below (where I store table cloths, napkins, kitchen towels, etc.) Yes, the fridge/freezer is enclosed. I had to pull it out just a little bit to allow the freezer door to open a bit wider. The water damage in the kitchen was behind the cabinets above the fridge/freezer (there is a gap between the wall and the back of the cabinets).
Thank you; the flooring is peel and stick vinyl tiles that I put down over the linoleum that was there when I bought the house. Some of those tiles are now tearing and I want to redo the floor. But, that's another project for another day!
