Belated Birthday Treats from M |
It's been a cooler day, today, with a high of 61F and a low tonight of 46F. There was some rain in the forecast, and apparently it rained in some areas, but, we didn't get any rain in my area, just cloudy skies.
Today, I went to get my lab tests done in the morning. This time, I felt like an old pro when it came to paying the parking with a credit card. LOL. I came home, afterwards and had a leftover hot dog for brunch.
In the afternoon, my daughter had a video appointment with the podiatrist to whom her doctor had referred her. The podiatrist would like to see my daughter in person to physically examine her foot before giving a firm diagnosis (which is how it should be), but, based on the virtual visit, seems to suspect that daughter might have sprained her foot as well as her ankle. Which would explain why she is still unable to put any weight on her injured foot or walk without her crutches. Depending on how severe the sprain is, it will take her several weeks to recover. Daughter is currently trying to get a referral to be seen by a podiatrist down here, rather than go back to the Bay Area if she is still unable to walk.
In the early evening, M arrived to tend to the garden and he brought me belated birthday treats! Tres leches cake topped with berries, crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and an eclair! What a wonderful treat! He also brought me more succulents for the garden, which we planted in the front. Daughter and I enjoyed some of the treats after our dinner of leftover Thai food.
Today, I am grateful for:
- More birthday treats!
- M bringing me more succulents for the garden
- Medical insurance and access to medical care
- A safe drive to the clinic for the lab tests and back
- A warm house
Today's joyful activity was enjoying some of the treats M brought us!
Plans for the weekend include catching up on some housework and doing some crafts.
How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?
I'd have been delighted with those cakes. I first had three leches cake in Albania a few years ago. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, aren't they? My daughter and I have been enjoying the treats. :)
DeleteThose cakes look delicious! I sprained my foot and ankle when I was a teenager. I was on crutches for three months. Sprains can be very slow to heal. I hope your daughter can see a podiatrist there. I wish her well.
ReplyDeleteThey taste just as delicious as they look, Celie. Thank you for letting us know about the time it can take for a foot sprain to heal. Daughter has a phone appointment with a nurse practitioner on Monday to see if she can get a referral to a podiatrist down here. We shall see what happens.
DeleteI hope your daughter can get a referral for someone in you area, so she doesn't have to wait until the end of the month to have her food seen.
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over that chocolate cake!
Thank you, June. She has a phone appointment with a nurse practitioner on Monday and will see if they can put in a referral for her. We are looking forward to trying that chocolate cake after dinner, tonight. :)
DeleteI do hope that they get to the bottom of the foot problem soon. A local, in-person appointment is definitely what is needed. It does seem odd that the foot (if it has also been sprained) hasn't improved more by now, given that she has been keeping the weight off it anyway, for quite some time. Does the ankle feel any better, or is it not possible to tell?)
ReplyDeleteThe treats look delicious. You are probably wondering which one to save for me. Well, I'm sure I could manage one of those with the berries on top, or maybe half a crème brulée. Or a small taste of the chocolate cake (not the whole thing). I'll be round as soon as I can!

Thank you, Ella. My daughter says that the ankle feels a little better. She has a phone appointment with a nurse practitioner on Monday to see what follow up appointments can be arranged while she's down here.
DeleteIf you want any of the treats, you'd better come over soon! They are disappearing fast! LOL.
That was smart of M to bring you the treats after your birthday, when other treats would be finished. I'm all for stretching out birthdays!
ReplyDeleteThe treats are very much appreciated! Anything to stretch out the birthday celebrations! But, I think I've gained back the 5 lbs. I lost last month! :D
DeleteOh yum! Those treats look wonderful. How lovely of M!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was very lovely of M to bring us the treats; they are delicious!
DeleteYour poor daughter is having such a difficult time with her injury.
ReplyDeleteIt does make sense that she's sprained both given your descriptions of her struggles. I hope things improve for her soon.
M brought a wonderful assortment of sweets didn't he?
Yum - I love eclairs.
As you can probably tell from all of my drooling anytime you post pastries, I love them.
I meet a knitter friend of mine usually every Friday at a wonderful local bakery. It is housed in an old house and quite comfortable for spending a couple hours crafting, drinking coffee and eating a (single) wonderful pastry. The baker is a 3rd generation French baker and his pastries are wonderful.

Sadly, after 33 years in the community, he is retiring and the bakery is closing. My waistline is appreciative but my heart is sad.
Thank you, Debra. Hopefully, tomorrow's appointment with the nurse practitioner will help her get a referral to see a podiatrist down here and see what they have to say.
DeleteThe treats that M brought were delicious! They are just a memory now! Oh, your Friday's at the local bakery sounds wonderful! How sad that the baker is retiring and closing the bakery. I hope you find an equally nice place to meet with your knitting friend and enjoy a pastry. :)
How lovely to receive extra treats, especially unexpected ones :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your daughter gets some answers from the podiatrist. I can empathise with how debilitating foot problems can be. Thankfully, mine have now improved massively. Xx
The treats were definitely appreciated!
DeleteThank you, Jules; I'm glad your foot is much better, now. :)
