A New Pathway

From the Steps to the Garage

Last Friday, M picked up the paving stones I had asked him to buy for me and on Wednesday, he set them out.  I wanted the paving stones to extend the area in front of the back steps and create a path to the garage side door.

From the Garage to the Steps

When it rains (which it does, from time to time, believe it or not), this area of the garden tends to get a bit muddy and water will puddle where it runs off the patio roof.  I wanted a dry path on which to walk from the back steps to the garage side entrance and back.  The pavers are about 14 inches square.  I am still not quite sure of the layout. We had some of them staggered a bit, but, I decided I didn't like that (I was afraid that I might accidentally stub my shoe on the corner of one of them and fall).  I might move them closer together so that there are no gaps between them and make it more of a solid path than stepping stones.  Or, put the double pavers near the steps rather than near the garage door.

What do you think?

  1. I haven't seen pavers before with lines in them. I like the looks of them.

    1. I haven't seen them before, either, June. But, M sent me a picture of them and asked if they were OK and I said, yes. The lines add a little bit of visual interest (the other side was smooth, so, we could have turned them over, if we didn't want the lines to show).

  2. It's tricky when they are not a solid path. You are right to be concerned about tripping if they are staggered. I'm sure you will come up with the right arrangement in the end. It will be nice to be able to avoid mud and puddles when it has rained.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I had M rearrange the pavers a little more, again, today, and I think it will work better. It was too dark to take a picture afterwards, but, I'll take another picture, tomorrow.

  3. I think they look good, and you'll be glad of them when it does eventually rain. Will you put gravel between the pavers, or will you leave them as they are? Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules. Actually, I had M change the placement of the pavers a little bit, to make the path a little straighter with less space between them. I think that will reduce the chances of me tripping over them and falling! I will probably add some small stones or gravel to fill in the gaps, eventually.

  4. That will definitely help to avoid muddy puddles if you just need to nip out for something. Just don't stub your toe or trip on any or the edges!

    1. The pathway is to help me get to and from the garage, without getting my shoes muddy (when it rains). Tripping over the edges is a concern, though, and I had M rearrange the pavers just a bit on Friday.

  5. I think that's a marvelous improvement to the area. It looks very nice as you've laid them out and they are close enough so your'e not over reaching with your steps.
You will have now streamlined your arrival home. You pull right into your garage with a push of a button and will walk across a nice new pathway into your home where you will bend over and give Dancer a little scratch. :)
    I like it!

    1. Thank you, Debra. I like that little scene you describe of a streamlined arrival home! I do love being able to enter the garage with a push of a button! The pathway itself has undergone a slight change in design, as you'll find out when you read on. It has become even more streamlined, if possible. :)
